Ask Zulehan stuff

So, what did you do for your birthday? :)
Unfortunately, I was busy on my birthday, so I had no time for celebration.

However, today I am just going to buy a cake and some food, then chill out with family and watch a movie.

My day has been soured, however, because a campus security guard interrogated me near the library for suspected drug use (oh, I am sorry, I mean for possibly smoking cigarettes on a campus that has designated smoking areas). Let me tell you what happened: I just finished instructing students in the library as a 'tutor 2,' then attended a MEChA club meeting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MEChA).

On my way leaving the campus I thought to go behind the library as a shortcut, but was surprised that this area was closed in on the other side, so immediately made my way back (I was behind the library for approximately 5 seconds). My confusion is because renovations were recently done on and around the library, and I did not completely know the new layout.

Anyways, the campus security guard rushed up to me on his golf cart and started tailing me. I made way thinking he just wanted space, but he stopped and asked what I was doing behind the library, claimed he smelled smoke, and asked if I ever smoke cigarettes. So I spent the next two hours trying to file a complaint on this guy.

That sounds super cool! Better late than never. Hope you all have a good time.

Oh wow, sorry to hear about that! That security guard seemed to be a little paranoid. Maybe he was bored and felt like teasing someone...

I had never heard of MEChA before though, thanks for putting this link! It's not something you'd see in France. You will probably think I'm an uneducated fool... But I still have trouble understanding what exactly this 'association' revendicates? Also thought 'Chicano' was pejorative. There are just so many communities in the USA (and especially in California) that I know so little of... It's a shame. I should read more about Filipino and Mexican communities for instance.

I got a chocolate mousse. :D

Yeah, and I would let it go. However, security guards are rarely seen anywhere around campus. In fact, last semester, several students were assaulted on campus in one week, and police were called in to do the job security were supposed to be doing. (Relatedly, it was one of my professors who noted that, if such incidents took place at a school with 'rich' students, the school would have been sued a long time ago.) And my car was parked in front of campus when somebody busted the window 'for the lols' (he did not take anything).

I have had a problem with security (or the lack of it) for a long time, so to know one guard suddenly rolls up on me because I accidentally went behind the library for five seconds especially irks me. (It was like: Oh, when it actually matters you guys are just sitting on your hands, but now that I go behind a building for a moment you show up to save the day from evil menace Kevin.)

You taught me a word (I had to look up revindicate)!

Chicano is worn as a label of pride by people not only of Mexican descent, but of peoples in general throughout the American continents, whether of Indian nations or nation-states. Chicano is held as a rejection of labels and expectations made by the 'dominant' culture. It refers to a state of mind and lifestyle that entails 'active citizenship,' or more than a superficial participation in politics: organizing efforts around their communities, including food drives, speeches, rallies, etc. It is populist and multicultural in nature.

As for MEChA, the organization revolves around such ideals, though it also shines the spotlight on lower class and minority disparity, the concept of 'internal colonization' or inequality at the institutional level within national borders, and the need for an openness in dialog for the growing multiculturalism of America.

That last sentence made me laugh. I totally get what you're saying, I'd be irritated to see this happen in my school or neighborhood. Also, WTF is wrong with the guy that busted your car's window?! Makes me think of the song 'I Bust Your Windows Out Your Car', but still. So much violence and for nothing, that's shocking.

Does it mean something in English? Couldn't remember if it worked in Spanish or English or both.

Right! Thanks for the heads up. I didn't mean to make an amalgam between people of many different origins but I get it now that you explained. It must be really interesting to participate in such citizen actions, if I may say so. Glad I learned this.

It was immensely delicious. I would give you a slice, but unfortunately you are half way around the world.

Fortunately, the police chief was more than receptive to my complaint, suggesting that the conduct of the officer I alluded to was unacceptable, and sub par to the level of training he received. A talking to will be given, which is all I wanted, as no student should be singled out based on no evidence and made to feel unwelcome.

In regards to the car window, it felt even worse that the perp did not take anything, as it told me he did it for fun. In other words, he did not even hope to gain anything from it: only wanted me to feel bad.

Here is what Dictionary.com is telling me:

revindicate[ vin-di-keyt]
verb (used with object) [vin?di?cat?ed, vin?di?cat?ing.]
1.
to clear, as from an accusation, imputation, suspicion, or the like: to vindicate someone's honor.
2.
to afford justification for; justify: Subsequent events vindicated his policy.
3.
to uphold or justify by argument or evidence: to vindicate a claim.
4.
to assert, maintain, or defend (a right, cause, etc.) against opposition.
5.
to claim for oneself or another.

I had to look up amalgam. :p

And oh, no, I did not think you were being presumptuous at all.

The thought is much appreciated :) Might settle down in California one day so who knows, maybe we'll have the opportunity to share some chocolate mousse in the future (not in the near future though).
Common French saying (but I'm pretty sure it also exists in English): 'Where there's life, there's hope', or 'Hope makes you live'

Glad it went well, what a story though.

The guy has issues o_o Sorry to hear about that...

That was absolutely not what I meant to say *laughs and cries at the same time*
I meant to say 'claims'. I mixed up with Spanish. Oops  But hey, we both learned a word that way, haha!

I use this word all the time, it's like when you make a generality out of something. You probably already got that right though :p
And relieved to know I didn't sound stupid x)

Do you enjoy eating instant noodles/ramen/etc. ? If so, what are you favourite types and the way you prepare them (i.e. some people always have to add an egg in).

You had your b-day?

Um..Happy belated b-day..
Yes, and thank you.

Have not had Ramen or any instant noodles for months. When it came to Ramen, liked to boil just enough water in high heat that when four minutes ran down the water was almost gone and the noodles came out tasting spicier. I did not like to add anything except for the spice packet. I like the Shim Ramyun Black noodles by Nongshim, which the local Vietnamese stores sell in bulk for cheap. Those I just cook according to instructions. As for restaurant quality Ramen, most likely have not tried it (I should change that soon), even though there are several local gourmet Japanese restaurants.

Thank you for the replies Delphine, Sparro, and Gracelia!

Oh my god you guys are smart.

Never seen anything like it. Like a huge ongoing and never ending debate about who will be president/prime minister/hereditary king or queen?

A giant pie is attacking me, how can I defend myself?
Burn it with fire!

A flamethrower should be sufficient, but a flame tank would be your best bet, and is worth the extra investment.

After all, you never know when more of these giant pies will show up, and you want to minimize the probability of them overrunning your position.

If you would prefer to save money, however, Mordecai and Rigby discovered another method for defeating the giant pie: telling the truth to your friends about how their cooking sucks.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Seems like a flamethrower would be a good investment, but I think I'll adopt a Charizard instead. It is a pet AND a flamethrower.
Thank you for your advice, the giant pie was burnt to ashes, now all I need to do is find a super vacuum *-*
