body art: tattoo or taboo?

On the flip side, it's always a great thing to see when a newer member jumps right in to conversing with the community and creates interesting discussion threads. Bravo to you.

why thank you  i just love learning about things and it's cool to find out how other people from different walks of life see things. plus i lean so much i had no idea about like the theater ghost light and like i just looked up the artist you were talking about and oh my that is beautiful work =O!! how did you find out about him?

Oddly enough, I was actually Googling gothic cathedrals and one of his tattoos came up that linked back to one of his social media pages. I've been following his work for about 2 years now and really admire what he can do as an artist, not even solely his obvious tattoo prowess. Finding new artists I can follow and admire makes me really happy, haha.

dang well thank you for showing him to me lolz. same new artist make me do the bobby hill sequel.

I really want 2 tattoos before I turn 23 (I'm 21 now). One is a simple all black moon phase change on my inner upper right arm and a lineart black no colour compass on my inner lower left arm. The first one is because ever since I was a kid I have loved the moon and everythin about it. I think a simple moon phase change would be a perfect tattoo (assuming the artist can do perfect circles, small spaces, pack in black and absolutely NO blowouts). The compass I just love the idea of nautical stuff and navigation, which also matches my moon idea, which was by pure coincidence.

I also want more piercings before I turn 23. I just want 2 more lobe piercings (I already have the basic ones). I'm not sure if I want more cartilage, they are really nice. Other than that I don't see myself getting any piercings that aren't my ears.

The only thing I don't understand about body modification is purposeful scarring to make designs in the skin. Anyone seen an Episide of Ink Master? It's a tattoo show on Spike network, there was an older season with a guy who had that. Like, I'm not gonna be like 'THAT'S GROSS' but I don't understand how it's done or why people want to do that. But to each their own.

Aesthetically I do like tattoos. I see it as art more than anything and if it has an importance to the person then more power to them. However, I would never get a tattoo unless I could book an appointment with an artist I really admire. I wouldn't get something small and I rather get a large area done like a back piece or something. It's something that involves a lot of time, commitment, and money.. something I don't have right now. Maybe in the future though!

I want to get some tattoos but I don't know if with my terrible pain tolerance I'd be able to handle that. but if i ever do i wanna get the following:

palm tree
ocean waves
solar system
bow and arrow (since I'm a sagittarius)
my parents names on my back

One thing I've always disagreed with was hiding your tattoos depending on your occupation. I don't see why that should be necessary.

Now I'm also not keen to all tattoos specially those who are gangsters and those who go overboard with tattooing their eye. that really makes me uncomfortable to see.

i?m all for body art! i currently have no tattoos or piercings because i?m honestly a wuss and i don?t do well with pain or discomfort at all, but i definitely want to get my nose pierced one day if i ever get over myself lol.

i don?t think i want any tattoos, but there?s some amazing artists out there and so many possibilities, so maybe sometime in the future? definitely want my piercing first, though aha

im thinking about getting a tattoo covering some of my scars on my right arm. i'm thinking a black bird (think raven or similar) or flowers but idk. i'm not a huge fan of colour or a lot of shading so i want it in black and white and not a lot of grey.

I have only one tattoo and it's a floating present dedicated to none other than my love for Animal Crossing lmao.

I love piercings. I would have more if I could take better care of them. Just the ear ones I prefer!
As for tattoos, I would not like them on me but they are nice on other people, same with other piercings.

I love tattoos, but I don't think there's a design I could commit to. I had a classmate who had subtle art all over her body and she looked so good. I'm not a fan of filled sleeves and chests, but to each their own. I prefer little tattoos on their own.

As far as piercings go, body modifications just make me uncomfortable. In theory I like them, but seeing skin with extra holes or stretch is even body horror to me, I'm very sensible when it comes to that. I can only stand additional ear piercings.

I love getting tattoos! I hate the process of getting them since I am literally the worst for pain, but the outcome is worth it. I currently have 6 and I'm getting another 2 on the 15th, it's a shame I won't have New Horizons to keep my mind off it :') I have no problem with tattoos, we all have different ways of expressing ourselves and it's a shame companies still have issues with it looking "unprofessional".

I have the triforce with the silent princess flower in the middle, a black cat on a floral moon, peonies on my thigh, Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service, Totoro from My Neighbour Totoro and Lucky and Jack from Animal Crossing! Next week I'm getting small white totoro and kitten bus on my shin and inner calf. I'm dreading it lmao.

The thought of something so permanent is quite scary. Looking back, most of my aesthetic, philosophical and media interests (ie everything one can insert into a tattoo) of the past seem horribly outdated to me now. Most of what I like now has been recently discovered by me. Can you imagine tattooing something and then cringe at it the rest of your life?
With that said, I still want with all my heart to see my body looking like a sketchbook hehe. I think I'm gonna pick the most fundamental of my interests to tattoo, so that they age well with me, and the places in my body I can't see so often/only with a mirror: my back, nape, ribs, back of my tights etc.
Some of my current ideas are nature themed, like mountains, birds, leaves, trees and planets.

100% for.

I've 20+ piercings (a few 'out there' ones) and 16 tattoos. I am fully for self-expression.

I think body art is so cool! It is so fun to see people express themselves and I feel like it makes things more interesting.

Personally, I only have double lobe piercings, and will most likely not get any other piercings or tattoos, simply because I can be very indecisive. I would be worried if I got a tattoo I would get tired of it or not like it anymore. However for the past 2 years I have been thinking about getting a septum piercing (I like the way they look and my zodiac sign is taurus!). But like I said, I haven't been able to make a decision on it yet!

I think it’s so sad when people mark up their bodies with meaningful art that Is really beautiful to look at and can sometimes hold deep sentimental value that they want to carry with them for the rest of their lives. Truly disappointing that we can make our bodies feel more like our own by covering them in works of art done by talented professionals who like doing what they do. Absolutely appalling.

i have one tattoo that i got for my 16th birthday (WITH PARENTAL CONSENT) and i love it so much!! it’s a small semicolon on the inside of my wrist, but i definitely want more as soon as i turn 18. i got it done with my mom. she got the same one because she’s a huge supporter of the semicolon project/mental health awareness.

When I'm 60, I'm gonna get a zelda tattoo. That way I will know it was real love all along and I'll die committed with a piece of the LoZ series etched into my body.

Tattoos aren?t for me, but I respect well-done and meaningful ones. There?s a fine line between having intricate tattoos in reasonable areas and looking like a SoundCloud rapper.
I really hate 99% of stick and poke tattoos, though.

Though I'd never get a tattoo of my own, little ones can be nice on people. I don't like the look of bigger ones that take up massive space or full sleeves or anything like that. It's too distracting for me.
