I was watching Mayor Mori's (on Youtube) most recent video on Animal Crossing, and it looks like we might be getting cloud saves back :)

He mentions that under New Horizon's listing, the Save Data Cloud's section was listed as "support status pending", which means we may be getting cloud saves, YAY!

Thoughts?

Here's the video & Here's the pic of the listing:

That's not good enough.
I want to save my game on an SD card.

I shouldn't have to go online to save a game I am playing exclusively offline.

I am not a multiplayer person.

Yeah I see what you mean. I didn't think of it like that, but you're right, there should be multiple ways to save - including SD card.

Well, if this is true, we would have then at least one way to save our game file. Better than nothing I guess.

I wouldn’t get too excited as it’s probably just a placeholder. It does leave open a small possibility though.

I agree. I wouldn't hold my breath it was you. And it's OK. Cloud save is unimportant.

I suppose everyone is right, it probably won't happen.
Personally, I don't mind too much without it, but I thought many people would be happy about this

Unimportant; to you.

Many, many people want and need this option as it's better than having no secondary backup at all.

I can't fathom how you can shrug it off as unimportant, when it's in fact a major issue.

Oops, console broke. My three year old island and all the work I put into it, gone, and there's not even cloud backup, no way to get my beloved island back, but hey.. not to worry. It's unimportant.

Seriously, people's concerns are valid and shouldn't be dismissed as unimportant just because having no backup doesn't bother you.

I also want to point out the listing also mentions English as the only language supported, while we all know Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Latin America Spanish, Qu?bec French, Japanase will be supported.

It really isn't. There were no way to Cloud save in New Leaf, Wild World , City Folk or in Animal Crossing (GCN). Nobody ever threw a tantrum about it either.

I'd really like for their to be mandatory cloud saves. That way, nobody can complain about losing their town.

Yeah that was always my confusion too as to why everyone was so upset o uo;;
I've had multiple broken or lost cartridges or consoles over time and I mean yeah it's upsetting but it's not impossible to get back to where you were before. I can't tell you how many times I had to restart new leaf ^^;

It would be nice to have a cloud save but we have gone this many years without it anyway. Like I was devastated when I got a new switch after a break up and didn't get to keep my splatoon and BOTW information despite linking them to my Nintendo account but I mean it wasn't that big of a deal that I refused to play anymore. A lot of the fear can be resolved with just... Taking care of your system and cartridge. And I'm sure someone will find a way to store game data online at some point to transfer or Nintendo will add a feature of it becomes too much of an issue.

Honestly, I don't mind that the game doesn't have Cloud save support. If they want to add it, then ok. If not then it's ok too, I mean we played all those years Animal Crossing games with the risk of maybe losing our save files, as there was no backup available and it didn't ruin the fun for us (at least I think that this fact didn't ruin the fun for anyone). Technically, we could have lost our towns at any time, whatever because of a defective SD card or cartridge, those aren't indestructible after all. Besides, New Horizons wouldn't be the first Switch game I played which doesn't support Cloud save, I also spent hours over hours into Splatoon 2 for example, which also has no backup option and I had no worries to maybe losing my save file. And even if I would have lost it, I would have start over new, I'm a person who can live with this.

The cartridge was less likely to break than the ds.
I went through a couple ds's in two years, and that was due to a faulty console. Not neglect.

My game cart was never in danger of being damaged because it was continually protected by being in the console! Therefore my saved New Leaf game was safe.

If the switch breaks, your data is most likely gone.
Not safely stored on the protected game cart, and not backed up via the cloud.

I really feel that you do understand the need for an alternative means of backup for the switch, and, for whatever reason, you are just throwing statements out there that dismiss a very valid concern.

People wouldn't have started a petition if it wasn't.

I don't know why you are doing this. The reason for secondary backup is a no brainer, and I think you know that.

I'm not going to continue to explain the obvious over and over.. as I'm done flogging dead horses.

This is never, ever going to happen. Nintendo has learned their lesson about giving anyone casual access to save file data. It is a massive exploitation point for a lot of homebrew solutions due to buffer overflow possibilities while games are reading save data. You will never see another Nintendo console that allows saving to a medium that a user can easily access with another device. The Nintendo Switch is extremely strict about the SD card as well, forcing the system to power down when the card is inserted or removed to reduce its likelihood of abuse as a point of entry for arbitrary code execution.

You fool! Now Nintendo has full control of all spaghetti in the world now. Obviously this is fake.

I don't even own a PC.
I couldn't hack a damn thing.

I shouldn't be punished for what others 'might' do.
That just plain sucks.

Customer lost.

You are not going to buy AC New Horizons because you cannot backup the game save. Really?

Unless you fully exploited your 3DS, the save files on the SD card were only valid for one console. If you lost your 3DS and had to load the game on another 3DS, your save file was still useless as the encryption key changed and the game data could not be read. SD card storage of game data was never intended as a backup option on the 3DS. Game data was only transferrable from one system to another by using the data migration tools. These tools were not usable if you did not have the SD card and the console that wrote the original SD card.

The 3DS only allowed SD card storage of game data for eShop purchases because large onboard memory was cost-prohibitive in 2013. To a large extent, it still is, but the Switch allows you to put games on an SD card of up to 2TB in size, and the onboard memory of 32GB is plenty for save data storage.

i- anyways...
it's not a punishment. there aren't cloud saves and that's nintendo's decision. just be careful with your console. nintendo doesn't care that you won't hack it, they care about the people who will. nintendo doesn't care if you don't buy the game because of it, because others will buy it anyways. it really is not that big of a deal; nintendo is just taking measures to stop their consoles and games from being hacked.

Rationally. Not picking up New Horizons because cloud save is not a feature feels more like self-punishment than any kind of well-thought protest.
