Confused about Harriet's purpose in this game!

I understand from the direct that there will be 4 hairstyles which you can acquire from the Nook machine.

The 7 other new hairstyles are unlocked via Harriet.
However, once you've unlocked the hairstyle it's added to your permanent hairstyles so you don't have to go to her again to change back to a certain cut.

So....once I've unlocked all 7 hairstyles... there won't be any use for her anymore?

I mean, it would make sense to go to her every time I want to change my haircut but with the existence of the mirrors her role is kinda unnecessary imo.

Since she is out front with Harv, she might have another non-hair related purpose too. However, I think in the end, she will really just be lip service to fans that want to go to her to change hairstyles rather than use a mirror. It is kinda sad that she and some of the other returning NPCs (like Brewster and Kappn) seem to have reduced roles from previous titles, but then again, maybe they don’t as we weren’t shown everything that 2.0 has to offer!

She might exist as a way to get a random haircut if you can't decide what to pick. That's the only potentially interesting use of her that I can think of.

I was wondering if she just had hairstyles or could potentially have new eye colors and skin tones (like the white, blue, etc. body paint for Halloween). Probably not. But that is one possibility. Maybe she could also sell wigs and other hair and face accessories including beard items? Probably not! But it would be nice for her to have more to do.

I do agree with DJStarstryker. I think she will probably do random haircuts for players if you can't decide. I might go to her periodically just because I always enjoyed getting my hair done at Shampoodle's.

I wonder if it will be like in New Leaf, though, and we can only do one haircut from her per day. That would kind of stretch it out for players using her.

Harv used to run a campground, and he really liked her. So it makes sense that he’d invite her and they’d build a new little campground together? I think it’s cute

I want to make them have a little wedding ceremony with Harv's photo studio. I think it would be so cute! I want them to also be roommates in HHP.

Yeah I just think she's there for fun? Maybe they didn't know how to bring back certain NPC's so it's just a little something she can do. I missed her from NL and I think it's great she's back, I'll definitely visit her a few times.

other than haircuts maybe she’s there to put those mii heads on you like in new leaf even though miis aren’t a big thing on the switch like they were on the DS.

Yeah I think her purpose was just to only help us unlock the different new haircuts. We have no idea if it will be a simple as sitting in her chair or if we will have to collect items or materials for her to unlock each hair style I do not think we would get them all at once. Besides if we had some sort of task to keep collecting items/completing tasks for them it would take longer and let us spend more time with her.

i'm a sucker for world building. So I was happy to see her added whether she had a minor role or not.

I assumed that maybe she will sell or rotate some wigs/hair accessories?

Would be fun if she gave you a quiz to decide what your hair will be like in past games. Or maybe she could give you more hair color options than the ones from the mirror.
