Contra 4 Review

9.6!

I'll read the review later but a 9.6!
"Petty criticisms aside, Contra 4 is, without a doubt, the DS's best game."
I haven't played the game or read your review but that is going too far. Everyone knows the best Nintendo DS game is Chibi Robo: Park Patrol.

^_^

Nice, I wouldn't say 9.6, but it's awesome fan service. Contra 4 is having a hard time keeping me entertained after 20 hours of game play, the challenges have taxed my mind, and all I can enjoy is some co-op. Yes, it's biggest short coming is the muliplayer in the NES unlockables, what a shame.

Yes, 9.6. I'm a freaking Contra fanboy, there's no doubt about that... and what WayForward did here is amazing. I thought they'd fail, personally, and I came in with no expectations whatsoever.

I was blown away, simply put. Just like I still stand by my 9.6 score of Zack and Wiki, I stand by this score.

And... yeah, though I never played Park Patrol, I have a hard time imagining it besting Contra 4. D:

@ Nintendo_Zealot - I think I already put at least 40 hours into the game... yet I still haven't beaten it on normal. I'm mostly trying to beat all the challenges... think I have, like, 5 or so left. Haven't had a chance to play co-op, though, since I only have one copy of the game.

I'm a simulation fan to the heart! I love simulation games such as Sim City which is why I love Chibi Robo: Park Patrol. I reviewed it once and gave it a 9/10!

I am thinking of checking this out. I had a real difficult time with Contra 3 so I am hesitant to get this. But the level design looks great so we'll see.

Well, I'll tell ya something -- I still can't get past Level 4 on Contra III, yet I can beat Contra IV. It's not as difficult as III... or Hard Corps... but yeah, it's still hard.

Great review, Bul. I agree with 95% of what you said on your review. I can't say that it is the best Contra yet. Don't get me wrong, the game is amazing, but I have fond memories of the original trilogy. I haven't played them in a while though, so as soon as Konami finally puts the original Contra on the VC, I'll buy all three of them, play them again and tell you if Contra 4 takes the crown or not.

I think I've played for about 15 hours and I beat it in normal a few times. I think the game is easier than Contra III, or at least, I remember having more trouble with Contra III than with this one. I'm doing the challenges now. With number 18 (if I recall correctly), they started to get quite frustrating. In particular, the one where you have to go through the pillars with a time limit was pretty hard, simply because you can forget about shooting anything, or else you won't make it. When I'm finished with them, I'll play it in hard.
