the original devil
I was stuck in the Midwest for near 13 years, in an area that was incredibly country. Everywhere you turned, every restaurant, every home, there was country music. For four years, I was forced to listen to it because my roommate loved it and refused to play anything else. Her wedding was the worst experience of my life, and it was rife with it.
I hated it. I hate the twang, I hate the sexism, I hate the baleful howls about their dead dogs and scantily clad girls in overalls on a tractor who only exist to be scantily clad on his tractor.
There are exactly three country songs I like, and two of them are ballads with a minimum of twang--it's just their accent. I don't consider ballads country, so. The other one is a fierce jab at the sexism in country songs, so I can forgive the twang. Still wouldn't listen to it more than the twice I heard it, though.
