I always use custom designs

I made my own multi colored grass for my various arreas. All the wooden paths, and patio wood. The side walk. Practically all my island are custom designs.

I primarily use custom paths (I have a version of "the" path that I love, and make use of a lot- not only does it look really cute, but it's also a great way to ensure fossils/weeds don't spawn in awkward locations (like behind cliffs, for weeds I mean). I'm no good at making paths, so I generally use ones I find online or through the in-game portal (Ava will be getting a farm soon, and I've got some custom fields to try for it!). I also use some custom signs, one of which I found online, the others I randomly threw together. They're not super fancy, but they work.

As for custom clothing, I don't actually use custom clothing unless I make it. I happen to like a lot of the in-game clothing items, and there's so many things to choose from, I rarely feel the desire to use custom clothing. But I occasionally made it in ACNL, so I still experiment with it in ACNH sometimes. Like, I've made some cute sweaters and a Turkey Day dress.

Also, don't worry about using designs other people made- for you to see them online/in the portal, someone HAS to have shared them, therefore they clearly WANT other people to enjoy them! I know I shared the couple of clothing items I've made (other then the souvenir hoodies from my town, figured no one would want to use those) and I would be THRILLED to see people using them! Just don't go posting pics and being all "look at this awesome path I spent hours making all by myself" and you're good.

I don't know how to create them and I've never used them till now because I've never reach a nice point in this game; always gave up before, but definitely I wanted to use them! Infortunately, the only time I tried to create a pattern it was not that nice (Xiao Xingchen's ouftit from The Untamed haha) so I won't surely make them by myself in the future and let the other create with all their imagination and good ideas! They are more talented than me haha
For custom clothing, I used them in my last game because in the beginning the clothes you get are really limited and I wanted to be nice... so I just visited a island by dream and took a nice dress!

Here are the designs that I made (that I transferred from NL/HHD).

The ! and ? are based off of markers from WoW. The first theee on the wall were based off stained glass in Dragon Age Inquisition. The second as well as the outfit I’m wearing and the one mext to it were based off of Bahamut’s outfit (Creepy Kid) from FFx. The next one on the wall was based off of a poster at mother base in MGSV Phantom Pain.

The first on the floor is DAI heraldry. Next is my attempt to recreate part of a mural in the game in Solas’ room. The third is a rather shabby illustration of the cover of the game.

First outfit in the game is based in on the outfit my knight enchanter mage wore in DAI. The second is a bad attempt to make the templar Barris’s outfit.

The two on the right in the front is outfit of Yuri Hyuga from Shadow Hearts Covenant.

Not the best at designing, but I am pretty proud of most of those. It was so much easier than in NH.

I use other people's custom designs. I can't design to save my life and I envy those who are skilled at it!

I think if someone is willingly posting it on there then they obviously don't mind if other people use it. If you use it then post it and claim it as your own obviously that's wrong, but I think people do create and upload designs so other people can use them.

I use custom designs in almost every design aspect of the game. If i'm putting a bug model down and custom design goes under it. If I'm placing chairs outside flower designs are going under it. It really helps fill a space and make it look a little less empty.

Third option, I have no patience or skill to do pixel art but I love some of the paths people have made in this game. The creativity of custom designs in this game is astounding!

I do use custom paths, but I am not skilled enough to make them myself. At first, I refused to use them and just used the basic paths that were available via terraforming, but once I found this path, I just couldn't say no!

I use them and I make them myself (although some I got lazy and converted a QR I made on the computer). The custom patterns I use are mostly for things like simple panels and signage. My island is covered in in-game paths so the only patterns I use on the floor are for road signs and storm drains. I leave enough space on the ground so I can hear the sound effects of the in-game paths. Thankfully with the 50 extra pattern spaces I can stop worrying about saving my pattern space for "outdoor" uses and try out some indoor/interior decoration!

If the author/creator makes a code for a pattern, they made it so others can use it. So I wouldn't feel bad about it or think of it as taking someone's creativity! You might want to make it a personal challenge to use the patterns in a way that feels different from the original creator (or other islands that use it), but it's all up to you!

I use a few downloaded designs, but most of the custom designs are made by myself because sometimes I can't find any good ones and its nice to make your own designs instead of downloading it most of the time.

I use custom designs, but ONLY designs I make myself.

I'm not much of an artist, but you have a limited amount of drawing space in the Designer app, so it's actually quite easy!

I use the custom designer to make paths, ground cover, picnic blankets, clothes, Bunny Day decor, customising items like the sign posts and simple panels.

I don't use anyone else's designs because, for me personally, it would take away some of the magic of creating my island. It's really important to me that it feels like my island. It also takes time to do these things, so it's more time spent in the game/on the game.

I love custom designs and I create my own, mainly because I like to be able to change them whenever I want or to suit the seasons. I never used to make them because I've always thought I wasn't very good at it, but I've put a lot more effort into practicing recently and I feel like I'm getting a lot better.
I found two versions of "the path" that I loved but there were things I really wanted to change. It took me so long but I've finally made my own version and I'm so proud of it. I love knowing that I can edit it whenever I want, add flowers, leaves etc and that it's unique to my island. I've made my own version of clovers, cobblestones, picnic blankets and leaves too. Honestly I can't stop designing stuff now.

There's some super talented people out there though who make such incredible designs and I'm just in awe when I see them. I love that they upload them so that others can also appreciate them and use them on their own islands.
