Debate: Were "The Beatles" really that great?

the beatles are amazing
they were extremely innovative and added different styles and elements to their music to become something that was new and groundbreaking for their time.

based on the numerous amounts of achievements that are still-standing (best selling band of all time) since their prime in the 60s id say they are one of the greatests if not -the-.

They've done more for music than most could ever dream of. Whether or not they're popular today is completely irrelevant. I've never been a fan but I wouldn't dream of calling them overrated just because they're not my personal cup of tea.

I like this question. I think for me they were a big important part of rock music and music in general. Their Psychedelic phase pretty much inspired a lot of hard rock, Prog rock and 90s electronics music bands to come. Lots of experimentation in pop music with some of the best production techniques and engineers from the 1960s.

With that said, they are not the only band I listen to everyday for years and years. I did go through my Beatles phase in middle school though. I consider them to be a good gateway to what ever else was around in the 1960s.

They're... okay.I kind of have the same feelings as a lot of people who already posted. Were they great for their time? Sure. Does that mean their music holds up well and they're "The greatest band of all time?" Not really. Something could be great in it's time period, that doesn't necessarily mean it translates well. A lot of the people who love them now have just jumped on the Beatles bandwagon.

I grew up listening to The Beatles. I listened to their tapes thoughout the whole 90's era. That and the Spice Girls.
