I've almost completely stopped fulfilling their insect requests because I hate how those plastic cages look. I also try to send fitting furniture in the mail. I've succeeded in getting a few striped items in Bam's house. I get so frustrated when I go inside a house and see that they've sold something that looked good, or worse, replaced it with something awful.

The only villager I don't really monitor is Agent S. And that's because I decided her house theme will be "lair of an amiable but messy lunatic".

I also try to keep them in their original clothes, but let's face it, that's an uphill battle all the way. I've discovered you can pretty much tell what an animal's favorite color is by determining which color it is that would clash the most horribly with their fur.

I'm curious, does anyone else try to do this?

*Thank you Maruchan for telling me how to edit the title.

I try to keep a few items in my closet to give to villagers when they ask for new furniture. I've also stopped doing bug/fish requests.

My Bubbles has a 2x2 fossil in the back corner of her home so I tried to give her a Rococo bed to replace it. She wasn't having any of that though, she stuck the bed in the other back corner facing the wrong way. You can't even get into the bed to roll around on it. :(

None of my villagers are in their original clothes so I don't care any more.

The best re-decorating that I've ever done is giving a re-furbished warm patchwork lamp to Mira though. It looks adorable in her house.

I secretly want to steal all of Annalisa and Mott's furniture but shhhh don't tell them that.

I don't fulfill their requests because I'm lazy and like seriously, can't they just catch the fish/bug themselves, some of them even mentioned that it's a common fish/bug, THEN WHY CAN'T THEY GO AND GET IT THEMSELVES HUH???

ahem.

I do this! But only if I'm planning on keeping them for a real long while and I actually want to invest time into them. Pretty much, if they're dreamies they get me decorating for them.

I actually managed to get Beau all of the modern wood set. Well, most of it-- He never put up the clock, and he never kept the TV or lamp around for long, but everything else I managed to get him to use. There was even a brief, Angel-Choir-Singing moment where he was using the modern wood wallpaper, too.

Then he replaced it with some awful thing, but it was a great moment, all the same.

I've also outfitted Fang with the modern series for the most part, Tia with a bunch of kitchen-y, home-y things. When I had Bonbon, I got her the patchwork set... It was all very nice.

Lol. I've had that problem before. I spent forever trying to get this stupid insect out of Fauna's house. I finally gave up on that for the time being. And I tried to get Ankha out of this sporty shirt she was wearing that seemed to completely destroy her character. I sent her a mummy shirt and saw she was still in her sporty shirt the next day. I figure, "ok, sometimes they use clothes to decorate, a mummy shirt won't look so horrible in an Egyptian tomb". So I sent her another the next day, and the day after. She still wasn't wearing it. One day she was actually in her house and I went inside... Mummy shirts had taken over. She had replaced a good portion of her furniture with them. I thought they would only put one thing like that inside at a time. It took me forever to get invited over enough to buy all those mummy shirts back...

I sent Agent S a refurbished Astro sofa that I had done especially for her house. She replaced it a few days later with a ball catcher.

Every time I've tried to give mine furniture, they either don't use it, keep it for a while but then replace it with rubbish or just get rid of it altogether, haha. Lolly and Bruce's houses are both practically empty for some reason...
But yeah, I'm in the process of sending them both furniture so hopefully it'll work out eventually :D
They've never changed the walls or floors in my town though, to my knowledge...

You can get them to change their wallpaper too! How did I not know this? Oh no! I'll never have another moment of peace, I have to mess with all of my villager's wallpaper pronto.

I just filled up my retail with flowers in an attempt to avoid this scenario. I'm not sure if it will work or not, it's only been a day.

I would be so DONE if I ever walk into Mira's house and see the patchwork lamp I gave her replaced by something else. Ungrateful little animals Dx

Right? Clearly they haven't figured out yet, I can decorate their houses better than they can. I think they do it out of spite.

I'm all for redecorating!! As much of a pain as it is...

I'm currently trying to redecorate Fauna's house (seriously- what is with that ugly alpine table in her original house?!) and Diana decided to replace all of her gorgeous furniture with ugly clothes.

It's such a massive pain and really takes patience, but I think it's worth it to redecorate/ decorate back to originality. c:

To be honest, it took a huge freaking effort. It was the most incessant thing I've ever done with this guy. Poor guy was just peppered with that wallpaper.

Wait seriously- it IS possible? I spent hours looking it up the other day and everything I saw said that people tried fruitlessly.

.....I think I may be insane enough to go for it. I adore Bob, but his wallpaper needs changing. His house is just too matchy.

I'm guessing the same applies for flooring?

Exactly - I managed to completely ignored their requests for fishes and bugs. One of the best decisions EVER.
One thing I really don't like about this game, is that it constantly trying to mess with the players by messing with the villagers. And it seems like you can never, ever remove those fishes/bugs from their house either. It's awful.

The only time that I would give them any furniture would be when they request it AND I see the golden opportunity to put the original pieces back. Example: Lolly somehow switched out here modern wood sofa and replaced it with a bathmat. Yesterday when I visited her, she mentioned she wanted some new furniture. So I found that modern wood sofa and gave it to her. It worked instantly because it's the same size, that sofa and the bathmat. She gave me the mat as a gift. :D
(I know it's a common scenario, but since I rarely have a chance to do this, it feels so good when it worked)

On the other hand, I am still lurking for the chance to put the Sloppy sofa back in Marshal's house, as he somehow managed to replace it with an exotic chest. O__o That chest looks really, really awkward in his house.

And yes, blocking all Re-Tail slots with flowers/fruits/whatever greatly helped in preventing the villagers from selling their stuff.
At least one less major channel to worry about. It's not stopping them from gifting each other, though. :/

It does give one more to do during the day. It never ends though. You take a break for a week and during that week Fauna thought to herself: "hmm. I like my rocking chair... but I would love a cement mixer". And so a new battle begins.

I absolutely have to try this. But you said he changed it to something else later? So how does it work? You succeed in changing the wallpaper once and it opens the Pandora's box of wallpaper? Once it's altered they can replace it with anything on a whim? The thought terrifies me.

For Marshal- you could probably just mail it to him. I believe he only has two 2x1 items in his house (the chest and his TV), so the odds of him replacing the chest on your first try are really good. I don't see him replacing his bed, since the functions are different.

With the Re-Tail trick, I haven't gotten around to doing that yet as I was wanting to make sure: when you fill up retail completely, they'll still replace furniture with things you give them, right? It just stops them from selling items on a whim?

I'm glad I did this but some of the damage has already been done. No matter what I give to Fauna it seems it just can't compare to her Tiger Butterfly.

Oh, and on Christmas the gift Deli asked for was a fancy doll. I remember snickering at that as it seems completely out of character. The jokes on me. It's STILL THERE right where he put it, replacing his phonograph. It drives me crazy, it doesn't go with his house at all.

I used to, but I just reset my town and my goal is to have my villagers all stay as original as possible this time around.

Haha, good luck with that. Their goal is to turn their house into something resembling the storage room of a senile pack-rat. Who is also color blind.

Really! Thank you - I shall try that *clings onto that one & only Sloppy sofa* XD

Yup, I have filled up my Re-Tail for some months, and it had worked well - I noticed that they love to put up their stuff to sell - and filling them up really helped in keeping my villager pals' home intact. Except for, well, gifting between villagers.

I have mailed Roscoe, Tangy & Mitzi some of their original furniture, and yes, they use them alright, although it may or may not be in the exact spots...not sure what happened to the pieces they switched out though.

AND MORE IMPORTANTLY: mayor_zoe, YOUR AVATAR. *have the frantic Groddle banjo in my head now*
ahhhhh GLITCH ;___; *ugly sobs*

You too?! Merengue is equally stubborn about her sea bass - she'll let me have anything but that sea bass.
Tried mailing her stuff of a similar size to no avail....so I kinda give up. =__=
