oddly specific poll - but, i have recently have gotten into a quarrel with some people over two names 'sounding similar.' i need clarity.

apparently, the names 'tilly' and 'tori' sound the same. do they sound the same/similar to you? to me, they do not.

Kind of but... not really

-Both have four letters
-Both are two syllables
-Both start with T
-Both end with "ee"

They sound a bit similar but not the same. They'd make great names for twins imo

While they do have some similarities, they don't sound similar to me, but it may depend on your native language. Mine is English.

The names may sound kinda similar for the reasons Nox already mentioned, but are definitely not the same.

I mean ... they both start with the letter T, lol. But they don't rhyme or anything.

Yes, they're very similar. Try swapping the L/R sounds between the names and you'll hear how similar they are.

If this question is specific to a work of fiction (where similar sounding names confuse the readers) then changing it would be advised.

No, for me they are two different..how is o and i similar there unless u put some really weird accent on? might be how i would pronounce em but yeah no they are diff.

They are similar, but not the same. Like, I don't think if I heard anyone say them out loud that I would get them confused.

Similar in the sense that you could see twins or something being named both, but unless there’s some kinda accent that makes them sound kinda indistinguishable, then no, they aren’t similar in the way you’re asking

they're similar in the sense that they're both names that start with the same letter but speaking them verbally i don't find them to be that similar tbh

Weeeell, yes and no. As others have mentioned to whole, starts with T, ends with 'ee' sound, short names ect... while they sounds similar, they don't sound the same. So I guess ultimately no, they do not sound the same (as in exact) but are similar.

Aside from starting with the letter "T" and sounding the same at the end (though it may be different for other languages), they're not similar. I guess the people who you've argued with probably focused the beginning and the end of the name and disregarded the middle.

No, they sound very different to me. Maybe a couple of similarities, but still different.

They have some level of similarities, but I wouldn't argue that they're so similar that they're practically the same or anything. To me, they're maybe at the same level of similarity as say, Daniel and Devin- a lot of the same letters and almost the same length, but still have a distinctly different feel to them.
