Do you prefer one gender over the other for your villagers. Pretty much all my favourites are male villagers. In my opinion they have the best designs and personalities. That's not to say I dislike the females, but if not for the sake of variety, I would probably only have Megan and then 9 guys lol

I've also been to many dreams where the islands either have no males, or only 1 like Marshal or raymond. So I don't think I'm alone in having a preference.

What about you?

Edit: unconscious preferences count too. Like if you were to tally up your favourite villagers and see how many are male and female, if they are majority one way, that's still a preference, even if you're not aiming for it :)

I much prefer the male personalities (non-gender locked personalities when Nintendo?) so naturally gravitate more towards male villagers, but I make an effort to keep a personality balance so tend to have either five of each or six male and four female.

Overall I'd say I probably lean more towards male designs as well - there are many more male than female villagers I'd list as my favourites. Some of my top favourite male villagers are Goose, Buzz, Cyd, Wolfgang, Roscoe, and Raddle. My favourite female villagers are those that have more of a statement look. e.g. Katt, Tabby, Reneigh, and Fuchsia. Actually, most of my favourite female villagers are of the sisterly personality - I feel like they were given the most creative designs rather than just going for 'cutesy'. The latter isn't quite my vibe.

design-wise it's a lot easier for me to pick favourite male villagers than female villagers i think, but it also depends on the personality types - lazy and smug tend to be my favourites so obviously it kind of looks like i have a bias. i could however easily have an entire island of normals based on design alone lmao, i think they're so cute.

on my island i do have an equal balance of males and females though purely to keep the personalities in balance

I don't really have a preference. I do enjoy the male villagers (cranky and jocks) but I also really like female villagers specifically the ones with make-up.

(non-gender locked personalities when Nintendo?)
right!? I feel like some of the characters are already gender non conforming but it would be great to actually see this!

I usually don’t focus on the gender of a character and always focus on who is the cutest! I love the bright colored characters! Male or female!

I also don't really focus on gender at all, if I like their design and personality then they're good by me :)

I created my villager lineup in NH with this thought process and by the end of it I, oddly enough, ended up with a 1:1 male to female ratio.

I like the male villagers best, but I do have a fair amount of female villagers on my island. My ratio is 6:4 males to females.

I don't have a preference although weirdly enough I thought one of my villagers was male until another asked me to deliver a gift to them using the pronouns she/her to describe the villager. I won't lie I was quite surprised by this in game revelation so I now consider the villager to gender fluid and I love them even more for it.

I don't bother at all if they are female or male. All I want is that they please me with how they look.
It can be a completely female looking Villager, but is a male, I don't mind at all. I used to always get
pairs of male and female of each animaltype, but eventually I stopped with it, because there is just
sometimes more cute ones from one gender than the other. :)

Ooh who's the villager? :)
Was it truffles?

I would say I like both equally, I have pretty even amounts of favorite male and female villagers. I usually try to have 5 male and 5 female villagers in my town/on my island.

You know I have never actually thought about that. But now that I am I notice that I am pretty even both ways. Not that I prefer one gender over the other but for example right now I have 2 males and 2 females that are forever staying on my island among the current villagers.

The are Zell and Jacob for the males and Audie and Lolly for the females. Also side note looking at this list Audie, Jacob, and Lolly were the first 3 move ins and Zell was my forced smug.

I haven't really thought of it this way, but I try to have at least 1 of each personality. Any extras I pick just because I like the character. My second town only has 8 villagers, so it's an even 4-4 split.

I tend to go for male villagers. Lazy and Cranky seem to be my preferred personality. I love the lazy villagers the most and currently have 3. I do try and keep an even amount gender wise though. Usually five and five despite preferring males over females.

Some of the female designs are just super adorable but the peppy and normal villagers are so boring and vanilla for me.

in New Leaf the Uchi villagers would misgender others a lot but i’m not sure they still do that.

i much prefer the girl villagers, i think they have most of the good designs tbh. if it wasn't for the few male villagers i actually like then i'd easily have an all girls island lol. i like the girl personalities a lot more too, i just vibe with them more.

that being said, non-gender locked personalities would still be cool...

Nope, no gender preference. In this game, personality type matters more to me than gender.

I like the smug, lazy and cranky personalities a lot. At the same time, I don't like the snooty personality so I tend not to pick a snooty on my island-hopping trips or in my campsite to move in. Because of my personality preferences, I've ended up with more boys than girls on my island. Which I'm perfectly fine with.

I don’t have a preference when it come to gender. I like them both equally. I base my villagers on personality and species. Depends on my theme for the island. For Serenity there are more males then females 7/3. On Jurai there are more females 6/4.

To me, since personality is tied to gender, they are the same thing.
So like if you really liked lazy and smug, were happy with jock and cranky, were alright with normal and peppy, and really dislike snooty and sisterly. Then you've got a preference to males.
