I see everyone with their town themes, and I realize that I don't have one. I just design my island based on what I want to do. I have a zen/Japanese area by Reneigh, a playground and beach area by Hamlet and Audie, a very woodsy nature trail, and a soon to be European cafe and neighborhood. Does my town align with a theme? Do I need a theme?
I incorporated multiple "themes" I guess, but I didnt want my whole island to have one, even though I've found some cool looking ones online. Certain areas look different from one another.
No. Your island, your rules! My island doesn't have a theme either because personally I find that they stifle my creativity and make the game anxiety inducing for me.
Basically, I want my island to simply be a place I like, filled with villagers and things I like. I'm not running Disneyland here!
For my concern I have an idea of the global look of my island but I made multiple areas on it to be less restricted. Plus all my villagers have their yard with items that goes well with their own theme.
You can maintain harmony between the different parts of your island using furnitures that share a theme but at the same time make very different areas like forest, town, etc.
Don't think too much, I'm sure your personality will be reflected by your island just like everyone else haha
Parroting what everyone else has said, no you don't need to. Having a theme can help with some decorative choices and knowing how to fill spaces. It can also help you decide between dreamies. But then given the limited furniture available right now, it can also hinder you if you have a theme the game doesn't have furniture for yet - I need some nautical stuff for my harbor area in the downtown, and all I've got is the anchor statue, barrels, life rings and the bottle ships. And the rope fence kinda. gib pascal pls nintendo
It can also mean you can't use furniture or invite dreamies you really love because they don't fit the theme. A solution to that could be to have multiple themes, so you can play with different aesthetics you like.
I don't think you need a theme. In fact a mix of themes can also be interesting. Maybe even have certain areas where the themes interact, like maybe put paper lanterns in the European cafe, or put some woodsy elements in the playground area. Just an idea.
I’ve never tried designing any of my ac towns around a theme. I wouldn’t even know what to do. I just try to make it look like somewhere I would want to live. :P
my main town has a pink theme with lots of celeste light-up items? idk what to call that but im also incorporating horror into to. i already made a graveyard. so guess my theme is pink/horror
I don't know... I think I have a theme but I don't follow it?
I've been taking a break from AC, just cause... idk.. maybe I'm sick of terraforming lol and don't want to move my whole flower garden if I have some stinkin' idea to change everything up... ☠
So... basically, I second:
No, not atm! I'm thinking of having a modern zen theme but I'm not too bent on having a theme. I don't mind just doing whatever I want to my island, with no real direction.
I don't have a town theme either! I think it could be really cool to have a town in which different areas are themed differently, so that you have as much variety as possible. To me, that's sometimes the problem with themed towns - they may look quite similar throughout. Not that similarity is a bad thing at all, but for me, when I'm playing, I like to see different kinds of areas.
I have one area that's a music area, with different instruments for the villagers to play; I have a beach hangout with different items from the shell recipe DIYs; and I also have another beach hangout that resembles more of a tropical spa!
