I like happy endings, but sad endings are much more memorable for me. Shoutout to Where the Red Fern Grows *sobs violently*

Almost always sad. I enjoy seeing characters wallow in despair because or just plain die. It somewhat appeals to my dark side when an ending is sad, I guess.

I prefer sad endings. Happy endings are totally fine and I like them as well, but I just prefer something that's a bit more... morbid? in an ending!

I think the bittersweet endings are the best. Going to either extreme is often not very effective. Then again, bittersweet often leans towards a 'sad' ending, so I voted for that.

Sad endings to be completely honest. It's not that I like morbid things, but they feel really bittersweet to me.

As long as the ending isn't brutal, I'm okay with it. Bloody and gory isn't for me, but I'm immensely moved by tear-jerkers, especially if they have to do with memories and such.

For me, I feel that adding a bittersweet scene to any story can raise the sentimental value of it by a high level. It gives you more to care about and makes you want to hold the characters tight to your heart.

I'm a sucker for goodbyes. The word "farewell" puts a tear in my eye and a tingle in my heart.

I like either.

For me, it's whatever tone suits the story best.

I mean most of the times I love happy endings; I always want the ending to be good for the main character. I also don't mind sad ending if it fits the movie (like dramas or horrors). It depends on the film I'm seeing!

It really depends on the story for me, but I'd say I tend to prefer happy endings a bit more. I definitely think sad endings work better for certain stories and they very often stick with me, but happy endings can be just as memorable to me if done right and they usually leave me feeling better.

It really depends on what the thing is to what kind of ending I would like.

I don't even think it matters what it is, just whether or not it's done well. If an ending is done well, it really doesn't matter to me whether it was happy or sad, just that it was a good ending.

The two things I don't like though:
- Things that had a sad ending that was retroactively 'resolved' in a sequel because 'fans' couldn't handle a sad ending.
- Things that are really trying hard to make you believe its going to have a sad ending, only for deus ex machina to come out of nowhere and save the day.

Those things need to stop. I won't even call them 'happy endings', they're more like 'fan service' endings.

I usually like happy endings in anime, but never in live-action movies. Then I enjoy watching the characters suffer.

I like sad beginnings with happy/bittersweet endings. The beginning of UP was fantastic. It mostly depends on the plot though.

Sad endings. They make me feel more.. and hit me very hard in the meantime.

sad endings are far more memorable to me, but happy endings are just so good.

I like both, actually. I hate it when the author or whatever forces a happy or sad ending out of a story. it is better if they finish it interesting and realistic, I don't care whether it's sad or not really... I think sad endings can be very nice, but if I love the characters I want their lives to be happy!!

happy endings and sometimes bittersweet. it depends
