It's weird I guess for me with my case but, I love horror and spooky stuff but, when you're someone like me, afraid of loud noises, esp sudden loud noises, jumpscares are not a friend of mine! But, I love gore and the horror atmosphere in stories? Like murder mysteries, unknown occurences happening and leaving you frightened, like in stories. Like I'm that person who would love the horror movie genre if it wasnt for jumpscares LOL. So for me I'm in between yes I like it but don't like certain things about it. ANYWAYS how about you guys, do you like the genre? What is it that you like about the genre?

It's something I hate... like A LOT.
It scares me so much (duh) it's unhealthy. Like my friends love horror movies and all of that but I just can't.
When I wa sa bit younger I used to watch my favorite youtubers play video games but I could never get myself to watch the horror video-games videos. Even that was frightening to me. I just hate it I don't know why, to give you an example I've watched Jurassic World with my hand in front of my eyes almost during the whole film. Also I cried three times at disneyland while doing the queue for the Tower of Terror.
I just hate horror. I also hate gore as I have a phobia of blood.
But I can tolerate if it's on video games and not too detailed like in Fallout for example. But Fallout still scares me to death because of the insects tho hkdfljk and I have to install mods to removed them if I want to play correctly because else I'm on the edge of crying.
I won't talk about jumpscares as they're literally the worst invention on earth.

So ye h that's pretty much my experience and opinon on horror. I hate it.

I wish I could love the horror genre, honestly, but unfortunately it doesn’t really scare me, nor do anything else for me.

i love everything horror and i grew up with it, which isnt exactly the best thing for a kid loll. movies, games and other forms of creative writing are things im interested in with horror stuff, but mostly movies. while horror doesnt usually scare me anymore i still have a huge appreciation for it. the only thing i really dont like about the genre is when people make it so that their whole atmosphere relies on cheap jumpscares.

Oh man... that really sucks! I'm so sorry. I can understand to an extent, minus hating gore since I can tolerate it or do like it but, I hate jumpscares with every fiber of my being omg.

Aside from my bias on jumpscares, me hating them, I agree! I love movies that rely on its story and suspense to give it that scary feel! Also funny how I grew up with horror movies, some and I like to think I was more brave before cause now I cant stand watching horror solely cause jumpscares get me badly dgdgdj but ill keep up with horror movies by watching video explanations on youtube LOL..

Yes, I do love horror related things, but jumpscares gives me a heart attack.

Horror is great, but only when unintentional. You watch a horror movie and you know it’s fiction, with actors and actresses, producers and directors, and there’s nothing to be afraid of.

I like true horror. I like things made with no intention besides simply being. Horror movies are just financial.

i love the horror genre. i've watched so much horror stuff that i'm starting to think everyone's a murderer. i kinda like jumpscares tbh.

I adore horror, it's probably one of my favourite genres, but that being said, I don't indulge in it as much as I like because there are some tropes in the genre that don't do anything for me, so finding horror that I enjoy is more difficult. I really dislike jumpscares, I'm both a very anxious person and I also simply think jumpscares are lazy (they really are just a play on your fight or flight response- if you have to show me something with no warning or add a loud noise to make it scary, it probably isn't actually scary, and it just feels like lazy writing or design), so already horror without excessive jumpscare use is hard to find, but then I really find gore to not be particularly scary- I can totally tolerate gore in movies, but it just doesn't chill my blood like what I'm looking for.

The horror that works the best on me is stuff where they try to build a lot of character so you actually care when a character is threatened or dies, and stuff where they work to build a deeply tense atmosphere. I think A Quiet Place was a really good movie for that (although that movie is not entirely jumpscare free, but they use jumpscares in a more sparing way). I also really liked the game Corpse Party (although I've only played the first game, I haven't gotten around to the sequels yet and I've heard mixed reviews for those?) and the anime The Promised Neverland.

To be fair I've never given it a real chance, but it does not seem like my thing at all. I don't like most movies with real people in them anyways, I prefer cartoons. I just get really bored in most live action movies.

I used to like horror more, but I'm just not a fan of most of the recent horror movies that I've seen. I prefer psychological horror where they build up a good, solid story and characters and let the tension create the sense of horror rather than blood and gore and jump-scares. I don't mind blood and gore and if it's used to enhance the story, that's great, but blood and gore on it's own is just boring to me. And I think jump-scares are lazy and not really scary, either. I may or may not jump depending on the situation, but even if I do jump, it doesn't really scare me. It just makes me mad that the movie is relying on such a cheap trick to try to force an emotion.

I like horror...But the vast majority of it is awful (in any media). Its rare I come across new horror stuff I like.

I do like horror, but the movies are dry. If it has more than 3 jumpscares in the time span of half an hour, it's a bad movie. I've become numb to jumpscares, they're just so predictable and lazy.

Idk what they're called, but my fav types of scares is the one where the murderer/ghost/whatever isn't in the shot, but then the protag turns and THERE THEY ARE in the backround but the protag doesn't see them. Unfortunately it's usually followed by a jumpscare.

One time I was watching I am Legend I think, the movie with Will Smith and a German Shepard. His dog ran off so he went into a dark complex with a flashlight. As he was looking around he shined his flashlight over a dead deer, eyes bulging, which actually made me scream a little cause I was not expecting a dead deer. I like scares like those.

I like unintentional or atmospheric horror; jumpscare horror can be alright in moderation. A good example I think I can give for this is P.T. - I am honestly still reeling that it is never going to become a thing because of the Kojima split. Horror fantasy is really great as well. I am all for the occult stuff that tries to make sense/has moving parts to it.

I watch every horror movie worth watching opening week at the theaters so i'd say I really much like the genre. Thrillers aren't really my thing though.

As for games, I wouldn't dare play any with anything remotely scary lol.

I love the horror genre, especially the campy B-horror stuff, mainly for the entertainment value. Even the “serious” ones are pretty dumb and not even that scary, it’s just fun watching with your friends in theatre or at home. Also, I feel like I’m completely immune to ghost/occult type movies involving white people cos I just can’t relate to it or picture it happening to me lmao. Asian horror is a whole different story though, especially because a lot of the Asian horror movies I watch revolve around myths and stories told to me as a kid. In general, the scariest for me are the real life situation horrors and psychological horror. I had a huge phase when I wanted to be an Makeup/FX artist for horror/sci-fi after taking a few classes for it in college. It just made me appreciate the genre more and the amount of work that goes into it to create a monster or a zombie, etc.

i love spooky things, ghost stories, and atmospheric horror, but i get disturbed pretty easily so i avoid excessive gore. I don't see the appeal.

I mean in theory, I like the horror genre. I like scaring myself and I love being scared but the horror genre has failed me time and time again in practice. Most horror movies just don't frighten me at all. It makes me so disappointed. The only time I get to watch a satisfying horror "movie" is when I have nightmares LOL. That's the only thing that makes me feel that amazing adrenaline. I honestly hate waking up from nightmares. It feels like being interrupted in the middle of a really exciting movie. So I wish that the horror genre improved and became more creative and devious so that I can say my love for it is justified. If only I could film what I dream and just relive those! HAHA
