Do you like the horror genre?

I mean in theory, I like the horror genre. I like scaring myself and I love being scared but the horror genre has failed me time and time again in practice. Most horror movies just don't frighten me at all. It makes me so disappointed. The only time I get to watch a satisfying horror "movie" is when I have nightmares LOL. That's the only thing that makes me feel that amazing adrenaline. I honestly hate waking up from nightmares. It feels like being interrupted in the middle of a really exciting movie. So I wish that the horror genre improved and became more creative and devious so that I can say my love for it is justified. If only I could film what I dream and just relive those! HAHA

You just exactly described my view of horror movies actually. I also feel the same way about nightmares. There are times when I am so annoyed that I woke up when my dream was so intense and awesome it’s like a movie. I can usually fall back asleep and continue the dream though, although it gets into whole other levels of confusing haha.

You're the first person to agree with me on this! Most people think I'm crazy or creepy for enjoying nightmares. But a nightmare is literally just a horror movie in your mind but no one judges people for enjoying horror movies! Lol! And it's great cuz you're a participant so the excitement is amped up and your brain knows what kind of horrors give you fear and excitement so they're designed for you. Hehehe

I agree about liking nightmares too, at least when they are abstract and more movie-like. I feel like I've had a few interesting ones and I always hate waking up from them because I want to see what happens next.

Unfortunately, most of my nightmares are boring everyday stress-related stuff, like something going wrong at work.

I honestly love the horror genre! I love horror movies like nightmare on elm street, IT and The Friday the 13th series! I love scary games and a lot of them interest me, I've been playing a lot of Dead By Daylight recently and that honestly sparked a lot of my love for the older horror movie. It's honestly funny, cause in real life I'm a paranoid creature who hates hearing noises or things crawling on me, scary games and movies don't effect me much!

Horror genre is my favourite out of all! I love horror movies, games, stories etc. I don't really mind jumpscares at all but they do scare the crap out of me ngl lol. I wasn't really scared of horror movies from the start. See, one time some of my older cousins were watching the exorcism of Emily rose and I was like 7 at that time. I could see the terror on their faces but I was hella enjoying the movie lmao. I still enjoy horror/creepy stuff. I like horror slasher, psychological, gore and basically anything horror but I'll probably rate a movie 1/10 which is nothing but cheap jumpscares.

I can not stand horror. I don't like the way it makes me feel at all and I just don't find it entertaining in any way I find value in.

LOOOVE horror! If done right, at least. It doesn't necessarily have to be psychological, gore or whatever, it just has to WORK(so it's a case-by-case basis)! I'd rather play FNAF's 'cause it gets the effect across more than say the Dead Space series...however I prefer the psychological horror of the early Silent Hill games just a tad bit more than the early Resident Evil ones...so like I said, it just depends!

I LOVE horror. Everytime I get to pick a movie to watch when I'm at home with my husband, I always pick horror. I pretty much exclusively read horror/thriller novels when I read fiction, and I've got spooky paraphernalia all over my house. As many people have said, atmospheric horror is my favorite. I really love a good ghost story, although I can get down with a demon possession story if its' done right. I tend not to like straight up gore or slasher films as much. It just becomes a bloodbath and that's not scary to me, just boring. Psychological horror is pretty great too. I love the feeling of being unsettled and tense while I'm watching/reading something! It just pulls me right in.

Well done horror is one of my favorite things on the planet. Key words: well done.

I do and I don't. A lot of horror is just... not good. It seems like lately there is more bad than good.

yes i love it because it can easily get my attention unlike all other genres.... but i'm a scaredy cat and i can't sleep for weeks after watching any horror movies

i love horror a lot. i'll watch horror movies, and i'll watch someone else play horror games, but i can't play horror games myself

I like horror stuff for sure! It's kind of ironic how I'm not a huge fan of jumpscares though. Sometimes I end up spooking myself by consuming horror content, but that's just a part of the experience sometimes.

I find horror as a genre/idea really intriguing and I respect the art form a lot, but I personally can’t watch/play/read anything horror as it’s too much for me and my anxiety haha :’)

I like horror a lot, but good horror is really hard to come by it seems!

Not really. I can't handle spooky stuff that well. I remember watching this one scary movie years back, and I got nightmares because of it. And, it doesn't help that I'm a bit paranoid.

It's something I hate... like A LOT.
It scares me so much (duh) it's unhealthy. Like my friends love horror movies and all of that but I just can't.
When I wa sa bit younger I used to watch my favorite youtubers play video games but I could never get myself to watch the horror video-games videos. Even that was frightening to me. I just hate it I don't know why, to give you an example I've watched Jurassic World with my hand in front of my eyes almost during the whole film. Also I cried three times at disneyland while doing the queue for the Tower of Terror.
I just hate horror. I also hate gore as I have a phobia of blood.
But I can tolerate if it's on video games and not too detailed like in Fallout for example. But Fallout still scares me to death because of the insects tho hkdfljk and I have to install mods to removed them if I want to play correctly because else I'm on the edge of crying.
I won't talk about jumpscares as they're literally the worst invention on earth.

So ye h that's pretty much my experience and opinon on horror. I hate it.

I have a similar point of view/experiences to you :(

I very much dislike horror as a genre. I can handle gore, blood and all that. But that's about where it ends for me. I especially hate anything that deals with paranormal themes, like haunted houses, places, ghosts, etc. It makes me unhealthily paranoid lmao. I've watched movies like Paranormal Activity and TV shows like Britains Most Haunted (or a similar show like that) and those things scarred me for like a solid 6-12 months. I used to get nightmares about it, wake up in absolute sweats, couldn't walk in the dark at all etc. Even though I know it's not real and made up, my mind just can't get past that. It's always like "what if they're real...?" and it just sends me into a dimension of paranoia lol. Same goes for some thrillers. A few thrillers I've seen like to set up that paranoia atmosphere, which just makes me very anxious and scared.

Jumpscares are the worst thing in the world. Literally cannot handle them at all. I will scream. Here's some examples for my point: I screamed (VERY loudly in public) in the Hunger Games (can't remember which one, the 2nd or 3rd one maybe?) when there was a shot of a bush and a giant wolf thing jumped out, I also screamed very loudly while playing a zombie horror game in an arcade. So yeah please don't take me in public and show me a jumpscare I WILL scream very loudly :')

Summary of horror genre for me: Thanks I hate it
