Being on the forums for a while, I?ve noticed that many people here choose names other than their own for the Player?what about you:

Do you name the Player character after yourself?nicknames included?or give them a different name you like?

If you chose a name you don?t actually go by?why?

I can see a few reasons for not using your real name, but I?m curious to hear the story behind the decision!

Personally I?ve always just used my real name, or a nickname version of it, for the Mayor?and then others for the additional characters.

I always use 'Cakie'. That way, I feel attached to the mayor in a small sense. But not too much. I always get very depressed when I associate a character too hard with myself. It gives me "Nothing matters" feels when I just save and quit my LIFE. Ya know? Using my real name feels too personal ig. When I was younger though, I would use my real name. For City Folk, at least.

both! lol! i have one with my name, and three with other names that i found cute

That’s actually a very interesting point that I hadn’t considered before. I haven’t felt that way myself, but I can definitely see where you’re coming from!

I view the mayor completely as myself—literally as my digital representation in the game. Sure I might have some headcanon for why I’m in that setting, but it’s still “me” if that makes sense.

I never use my real name for anything. It never even occurred to me to do so. For me, that would just be so boring. I love creating a character and letting them grow and shape themselves in my mind. They will likely have some attributes that are similar to me so that I still feel a connection to them, but I've never really wanted to play a game as myself.

Similarly, that never occurred to me (in Animal Crossing, at least). For me part of the draw of AC is stepping into a different, simpler life?but I want to do that as myself, rather than through the eyes of a made-up character. Playing as someone else would take away from that experience for me, I think. Even my secondary characters are a reflection of me, regardless of their name and gender.

Yes and no. This is not my real name, but I feel I have been using it for so long it has become an extension of myself. Aside from that, I do not use my real name for anything. I like the separation and I think it is necessary.

I do use my real name (nickname), using any other name would feel foreign to me.

I use my nickname/artist name for pretty much everything online or in games. Sometimes I use the name of one of my characters and base the in-game chatacter on them.

I never use my real name. It's usually always something I can make up on the spot that fits my tastes.
But for New Horizons, I want to try something I never do for video games and use my middle name for my character.
And fun fact: My middle name is actually an atoll/island lol

My very first towns I always use my nickname. Any other town I usually use a random name or a name that goes with the theme.

I used my nickname in all games except my themed town, where the mayor is a character inside a story so she has her own name. :)

I don't like using my own name because I like characters I make to be unique from me, on Tomadachi Life I still use my online nickname (Salty) rather than my real name, even though my first mii is basically me.

i always name the player after my username! only in my VERY first town when i was like 9 did i use my real name.

I used to use made up names for myself when I was younger but now I'm more comfortable with myself that I prefer to use my real name or nickname. I feel like I can't really identify with or connect with the mayor/character if we have different names now

It’s pretty neat to see that throughout people voting, it’s always stayed very close to a 50/50 split!

I named my player's name after my few past accounts. Most of them, I used "Roccowolf" alot, and still using it to this day. So my player's name is named after my past accounts I used most of the time.

I guess it would be considered a nickname. I usually have been calling my characters Aki which means Autumn in Japanese. I thought it would be cool to use Aki like a nickname or something. I've been using it in so many games that I'm kinda getting bored of it. How do people come up with all these different names for their characters. I'm having a lot of trouble thinking up names and characters.
