Do You Plan on Buying Switch 2 within first week of Launch?

I'm still not completely sure at this point, but I'm leaning towards "likely" so far. Typically I've gotten the more recent Nintendo consoles/handhelds for Christmas the same year they were released, but if it releases in July or so, I'd rather not wait half a year to get it, lol. I don't intend on pre-ordering it, since I feel fairly confident I can get one on release day if I decide I want it.

I don't think I ever bought a system within the first week of launch. The Switch was the closest I came to buying one so close to launch and it was still a few months after. If there's a shortage with Switch 2 like there was with the original I will probably just wait again.

It's too early to tell also. We'll know more with the direct next week with what it's probably going to launch with. I don't know whether Switch 2 is going to be a very late 2025 release or 2026. I'd be surprised if it's released very soon.

probably not; will likely wait for AC6. plus, my boyfriend is going to get the switch 2 at launch. i’ll have access to it that way, and maybe i’ll even convince him to let me transfer my account/games to his OLED >: )
What a perfect strategy! And yes! I hope, hope we will get a new Animal Crossing game sooner than later and that will definitely push me to buy a new Switch. Because I bet that when that happens it will have some special features that will only work on the Switch 2! What do you think?

Everything I’ve been reading says it will launch late summer. I tend to think that sounds logical, but who knows with Nintendo, lol! And I honestly never buy anything if it is hard to get or over priced because of shortages. I just patiently wait. I have to admit I didn’t even know about the Switch until the pandemic and then someone told me to try Animal Crossing. My FIRST ever AC game and I have loved it ever since. Although I have followed the Reddit sub for AC and am aware that many players love some of the earlier games better.

Yeah honestly I’m not a fan of pre-ordering anyway. So many things to go wrong. And what I’ve seen in recent times often preorders get cancelled by the store it was preordered from sometimes without any explanation. I said in a previous post that I had no intentions on even buying one at all, but I do suffer from a disorder……known as FOMO. 🤣🤣 So we shall see how long I can hold out. lol!

i was thinking that i wasn't going to purchase it at launch and wait for an AC or pokémon limited edition console.. but i'm back to being undecided. my switch lite hasn't died on me just yet and i purchased it when ACNH was announced. really depends on the switch 2 features and games that are announced in the direct

I went to a switch lite and I regret not being able to plug into a tv anymore, but if there are no real good launch games along side with it or atleast announcements of coming soon, I don't really think that can justify the price tag on its own for me

I’d like to but it all depends. I’ve never gotten a console at launch before so I think it’d be fun. I’ll only get one though if the following things are true.

1: The price is reasonable. I fully expect it to be more expensive than the OG Switch but hopefully not outrageously so. Like how overpriced the OG 3DS was at launch for example.

2: At least one launch title has to get me really excited and ideally a second one is to follow within the first year otherwise I’d be better off waiting.

3: The most important reason availability. If it’s super scarce at launch like the OG Switch then I likely won’t be able to get one even if I want to. I’ll try my best though regardless if the above two reasons are met.

Basically all 3 of the above things would need to happen for me to get a Switch 2 at launch.

I’m probably going to wait until there’s a special edition one, for Zelda. I got the AC Switch last time (initially… then I got a Zelda HD Switch too), but I think for Switch 2, Zelda will come out before a new AC game. I don’t think I’d get a special switch for any other franchises like Mario or something. I haven’t had much time to play anything recently, so I still have to catch up on lots of Switch 1 games and I’m good for now and don’t feel a need to get any Switch 2 games right away. Also, gotta wait for holiday sales and stuff!!

It would be nice to get the Switch 2, but I have listened to some You Tubers who seem to be pretty “connected” in the Nintendo world and it seems to be a consistent consensus that it will be in the high $400’s. I’m hoping not, but with the rise in costs of everything else and my understanding that it will have an Nvidia graphics card it will have to be pretty pricey imo. Which launch title would get you most excited? Supposedly there will be a Mario Kart 9 but I’m not sure that would make me want to run out and buy. But if there were by some rare chance a new Animal Crossing announced, then yeah I would jump to get one very soon. Probably not week 1 but like you said a lot of factors will have to be in place before I jump on the ship.

I pretty much did exactly as you! I bought the AC Switch and then when the Zelda edition came out I bought it as well. I’m always a sucker for special edition anything so long as its theme is something I really like anyway. And I agree. While I do like Mario Kart 8….there is talk of a Mario Kart 9 at launch…..that or any other Mario game would cause me to jump in and buy right away. What if there was a new Animal Crossing announced! lol, not likely but if that were the case, I’d be getting the system day 1, lol!!

I can’t really see it being higher than $450, honestly. They still have to make it accessible for their historically traditional audience of families, and if the price goes much higher, I think they’ll struggle. That said, I think there’s definitely space for a more premium model around the $500 mark to give people higher performance. I don’t think 10-year-old Billy will care about how many teraflops and dinglehertz the system has. He just wants to play Mario Kart with his friends.

Absolutely not for reasons I mentioned a few times in the forums, so I'm gonna skip that here, cuz nobody is gonna want to read that especially again if they even had interest the first time..

Normally, I wait until there is a 1st party game that I absolutely am excited to play, which for me use to be Pokemon most of the time. It is then I get the system and the game. A little while later look into the catalog of already launched games and maybe pick one or two from there and then look at future launches.
However, I would recommend waiting at least two weeks after a Pokemon launch due to how Nintendo has been lately on... stuff.
All the waiting time leaves room for patches, maybe a themed system that interests you, third party visual variety for accessories, and even reviews to come out if you have any concerns on the system or games.

I likely will not be purchasing one the first week of launch. I would wait until a game I’m looking forward to playing is released before buying one. For instance, I’d buy one the second Mario Kart 9 has a confirmed release date.

Within the first week? Given how bad scalping was with the release of the Switch, I'm not even confident that will be a realistic goal.

I don't know if I'm going to run out and buy it THAT immediately regardless . . . but it does seem likely that I will buy the Switch 2 within the first few months of its release, unless there really isn't anything launching with it that I'm interested in. I've played my Switch for many years and am overall very happy with it. I'm expecting a bit of a steep price tag, but as I am generally very frugal and pretty much only spend "fun money" on occasional travel, I think a splurge on a new console once or twice a decade isn't too extreme. As soon as there are a few games I'm excited for, I see myself buying a Switch 2.
