In Wild World, which was my first AC game I would use my real name, because.. well, not very creative. I even named my town after a real town near my (at this time) home. Nowadays I always use other names, because I'm not a big fan of my real name. It's "Franziska" and sadly germans know a LOT of insulting ways for this name. Anyways, I used for a long time my online name, Zari. For New Horizons I wanted to change a bit though and ended up with "Nekko", which is a mix of "Neeko" and "Ekko", two of my favorite LoL champions. I don't play LoL anymore, because of how awful the community is, but I still really like the name.
I use my name for my main file, and my OCs for the others. Having the villagers call me by the name I go by is really immersive and with some people not using my real name in real life, it just feels so euphoric to have the villagers refer to me as Vance with no qualms or reservations.
For ACNH, I used my last name...because I like it better than my first name.
For other games, I've done both. I usually use my last name. Sometimes I will use my first name. And other times I will just pick a random name that I've pulled from nowhere. It depends what the game is. It seems kind of strange, now that I think about it...that I do all three. But...some games just seem to call for one over the other.
If I'm playing as a female, I'm always Annie. Annex if I'm a male. I used to play Dragon quest a lot, and thought Annex made a good male name. Both are close to my real life name.
I do have my villagers call me by my real life Nick names. My brothers called me Nutter butter growing up, so I wanted my villagers to call me that. Didn't fit. They call me Nutter butt instead. Makes me laugh.
I used my real name on my first island, and a random name that I like on my second island. I've always used my real name in every game I've played in the AC series.
I always use a character name. For each game version I had different names. On the DS I gave all my characters the name of a city I'd been to. On the Switch I use island theme names. For example my main character is named Coral. They've all looked different as well.
I used a "new" name for my island rep, I went with Panda since my second town in NL was Melursus, run by Panda. I kinda regret going with Panda though. Wish i could change my name!
I usually go by Luna in games and Animal Crossing was no exception but when I started New Horizons I decided to use my real name for once. It’s pretty close to Luna anyway.
I have been using my real name in games where i am playing a female protagonist. The only exception i might make in the future is otome games because it is making me feel kinda awkward XD
I always use fake names! I used my irl nickname back in wild world but now it feels weird to see game characters call me by my name so I prefer using random names that I like or my username
My mayors / reps aren't me. I know I play as them, but I don't think of them as myself. I don't like using styles I would IRL in my games or anything. They're a fantasy escape for me. They are named after characters of mine if I can style them as one of my OCs, or I give them a whole name and then create an OC out of them. :]
I always use my real name is my games and always base my character off of me and I’m going to continue to do so always. It feels weird using a nickname for me.
