• Guest, can you feel the love in the air? Valentine's Week at The Bell Tree has begun with a new mini-event featuring four activities to enjoy -- new and returning collectibles are up for grabs! Dive in to the love here.

Does anybody else LIKE the fact that the villagers are nicer in New Leaf?

I have more bad days than usual, and Murphy pissed the crap out of me in GCN because he was so rude, so I am happy with the change.

This inspired me to turn my GC game on again.

I need to buy this game again. Ugh. I know Nintendo's main consumers are the younger crowd, but I really wish that they would have just left AC alone.

I think I'm going to turn on my game cube game just to see what they say or who I even have for villagers! It has to be like five years since I've played.

I thought that was in my head, but I noticed it to. Like, when you talk to them too much, they don't get mad at you they just want time alone to think instead. I think that's unrealistic, I miss them telling me I was an annoying brat.

I guess I liked them grumpier? Even the "grumpy" and "snooty" villagers aren't even that bad anymore. Eh. (?・Д・` )

I personally like my villagers when they have strikingly different personalities but now their personalities all kinda blend together. Don't get me wrong, I like the villagers personalities in New Leaf but I just kinda miss when the cranky were a little cranky and the snooty were really snooty.

I don't remember any of the dialogue from WW, so I don't have a frame of reference, but I do agree that the niceness seem to mush the personalities together a little bit in NL. I got my first snooty villager in a long time just a few weeks ago, and I honestly would not have been able to tell that she was snooty had I not checked online.

I used to be bestfriends with Hopper. I talked to once, he remembered me. Talked to him twice...

Bob really missed me too :c

Poncho & Rolf were pretty "cheesed off" for avoiding them, but after that they acted as if nothing has changed over the past 237 weeks.

I actually like this a lot! I'm always terrified of bothering my villagers, and the fact that they seem to like being talked to lots really helps a lot.

They have to be nice to you, you're the mayor after all. Smugs are my favorite because they're just so sweet. If only I had more room in my town, I would totally get another smug.

I don't mind that they're nicer now but it was kinda funny when they were mean D: and then you could just win their friendship but I think they're all a bit TOO nice. the dialogue needs to be spiced up for every personality, seriously

I think it's not particularly bothersome that they're nicer, but they were certainly more diverse before. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they had more dialogue or something.

I don't really mind it.

The Snooties are more backhand when it comes to their insults rather than flat out rude. The Crankies have definitely been toned down a lot.

Idk. They weren't too bad to befriend; Gaston was the hardest I had to get my friendship up imo since he hardly would give me requests for days. Pecan was super easy.

I find Uchi villagers can be very rude and arrogant so there is still an unfriendly type. Cranky is more like a fatherly type now, they should've really renamed it to Gentleman or Senior or something instead of trying to pass it off as Cranky, I think they only did that to avoid a fan backlash.

I've only played Wild World, so when I compare the Cranky personality from WW to the one in New Leaf, I do find it very odd that it is now very watered down. I just wouldn't call Rolf cranky anymore. He's too nice. I think Phoebe (uchi) or Alli (snooty) are more fiery than Rolf is. ;)

For me, Animal Crossing is a safe, happy place. A place where I feel important, loved, and generally not as worthless as I feel all the time in real life.
This is why I like my villagers nice. I don't get much real kindness elsewhere, so having even a video game show me kindness cheers me up.

I don’t really like it. One of the few things I remember from playing WW was how mean the snooty villagers were and I couldn’t recognize snooty villagers in NL at first because of the way they act there. As for the crankies I think they’re fine. As someone mentioned on the first page I think, they act more tsundere-ish and if there’s one think I love it’s tsunderes.
I do love the uchis and normals tho!

Aw, I really hope things improve for you soon. I've also found the game a great comfort during some hard times this year. It's a powerful game indeed. :)
