Does anyone else have the Animal Crossing Clock for 3ds?

I am trying to use it as an alarm. Does it really have to go off every hour? Or if I am not using it, will my alarm still go off?

If you are using it as an alarm clock, you can set your alarm, then close the system to put it in sleep mode. The alarm will still go off at the time you set it to, but you won't have to worry about the town tune playing every hour.
