Does this frustrate anyone?

This whole dream villager trading seems like you're treating the animals more like livestock than friends.

I'm not sure... I think selling them is more like that. I think it's nice to give villagers to a new home when they leave the town. But I DO think it's a bit weird when people won't be satisfied unless they have the 10 dream villagers they want. It seems so restrictive, and mean to all the other animals available :p

You can do that, though I think you're definitely in the wrong environment for it here. As a forum ( the absolute pinnacle of opinion-forming and opinion-stating outlet ) entirely dedicated to Animal Crossing, you will get a lot of people who feel strongly about the game and have strong opinions about every aspect of it, including villagers. In an environment that's very systematic and categorized, separating casual ACNL talk from trading-- and even separating item trading from villager trading-- people will treat most things like a serious, systematic process here.

Don't get me wrong, there are still a lot of people here who will ignore "dreamies" and will trade or giveaway very casually, as you can see from the replies in this thread. I'm just saying, this forum environment encourages a very different mindset from yours.

I agree with this. From what I've seen, you don't really have anyone on Tumblr questioning your motives. I follow villagertrade, villageradopt, and acnladopt on there. I think /r/AdoptMyVillager also tends to use the "dreamie" criterium less. Maybe you'd have better luck with those.

Yes thank you, I'll try those places :)

Also, just to clarify-- I don't think it's necessarily bad how this forum treats villagers, or "dream villagers". This is just another way that some people like to play the game. There will be people who don't like it-- just like there are people who do, and don't, like Time Traveling-- but in the end, they are just little video game animals, and if you want to spend little video game money on them, or systematically divide and trade them, there isn't anything wrong with that.

I'll try to offer a view point as a person who picks people who have so and so villager as a dreamie. I don't pick based on JUST a "dreamie" list though. If the person is nice and genuine about they way they express interest in the villager I will also let them have it. It's just people who post nothing but "me" that I seem to not pick from.

Some people buy another copy of the game solely to help others. Yeah that's 35 bucks that may seem like chum change to some, but also 35 bucks that somebody might not have at their disposal. Is it a right to say that they can pick and choose? That will just have to depend on the person. Although a lot of people appreciate that kindness there are others who take villagers only to re-sell them and what not and it's kind of upsetting to find out. It's kind of like you giving a present to a friend that you put thought and consideration into, they act like it's the favorite thing in the whole world, and then they turn around and throw it in the trash when you're not looking. I also do accept that there are all kinds of people out there; I don't seek out people who has a villager as a dreamie for a choice most of the time, I just want to know for the most part they have a personal interest, not a monetary interest. Of course at the end of the day, people can do tons of things behind your back once the villager is given away, but you can at least try to prevent that by being careful with who you pick. For high demand villagers, I'd for sure want to know someone "loves them to death" but in your example, villagers like Bunnie I am not entirely picky about who she goes to.

I know - if people want to spend hours and hours trying to find dreamies then that's fine with me! The thing that annoys me is when people think I'm not deserving of villagers because I don't play that way. But oh well, I'm going to try and find more casual places to trade villagers :)

I don't find it frustrating, but I agree it's off-putting. I personally don't feel a need to state a list of villagers I'm looking for. The one exception I made was Lobo the wolf - and I ended up sourcing him by myself via the reset trick.

I do, to some extent, understand it. As someone who has had done many giveaways and multiple auctions, I've seen people immediately turn around the next day and sell on the villagers for much more than they paid me. At first it seems a little rude, but then I remember that once they're out of my hands then it's not up to me what that person does with them. The 'dream villager' rule seems to be some peoples way at trying to have more control over villager distribution, to make sure their villager is going to a person who genuinely wants them for personal reasons rather than to trade them for something they deem better. It's a nice idea, but even this has it's flaws. Someone can easily alter their dream villagers list in order to appeal to who they're trying to buy from.

I agree, again. Just different ways of playing, so it's worth finding a community that has similar values to your own. And like Tina said, the "dreamies only" thing is done with good intentions. The people on this community are some of the nicest forumgoers I've come across, so I can't complain.

The "dream villager priority" thing is pretty much only to ensure people who absolutely want that villager are given that villager, or that the villager is not sold off for extra profit. Especially if they are being given away. I prefer to give villagers to people who actually want them and will not give them away to someone else; especially if that villager was a good one of mine. I would never sell a villager for profit; in fact, I'm only giving away the ones I don't want. :)

The only thing that upsets me is how expensive some of my dream villagers are. I think Marshal will be my last dream villager I will get, due to not having 10 million+ Bells at hand. :( Giveaways for him are nearly nonexistent.

I think that being a denied a villager just because she's not on some list or selling one for millions is so unfair. It's a game and I wish people would stop treating it like a blood sport or irl uber business.

On that note though, I've met a lot of really nice players who just want to have fun and share. :D

Yeah I sometimes think people are far too serious about this! Yeah of course, I got Moe from someone without question :)

I think that's a little unfair. What's wrong with being "serious" about the game? And for that matter, why do you they're "too serious"? Wouldn't some people say that you're too serious because you're frustrated that someone got villager priority over you?

Maybe we should keep away from "people taking this game too seriously" accusations.

That's a fair point, to be honest we're probably all too serious because we're on a forum about it! But it's my opinion that some people do take it too seriously with the whole dream villager thing. But I'm not stopping them, people can play how they want :)
