Emails from old subscribed threads

So I have my settings set to automatically send me an email on a thread I've posted in (subscribed to) and I found this really helpful for some threads. However in some i don't want notifications so I usually change the alert to either "through my control panel" or I unsubscribe to it all together. However recently I've been getting email alerts to threads I'm not even subscribed to any more. To stop this happening I unsubscribed from every single thread I was previously subscribed to it wasn't even in my subscriptions list but I'm still getting emails. I'm getting about 60 a day and it's really annoying. I'm trying to work out whether it's a glitch on my email system, my account or something else...
Can anyone give any advice or help?

All the emails have been heavily delayed and they are only now finally going out so yeah. It won't change as it's sending you the emails you were supposed to get in the first place
