Events & Collectibles General Discussion

Here’s my two cents: people are saving up their tbt for the rater collectibles that have doubled and tripled in price in recent years. Or people simply don’t have a lot of tbt to spend right now. Older „lower tier“ collectibles as well as the ones released in the last few years (newer eggs, halloween, fair 2022 and camp 2021) are not in demand right now. A lot of ppl got all they need from those events, the market is saturated enough with them. Star wand for 10k? Sounds like a dream. More like 20-30k now. Who has that kind of tbt sitting in their abd? not a lot of people.
Not just that. The ones who have these collectibles (such as star wands) don’t want to sell theirs, and the ones who have the Bells, don’t want to spend theirs. If I had a star wand or a pinwheel collectible, I would gladly sell them for 10k TBT, not just so I can have more Bells, but also for those who wanted these collectibles badly to get their collectibles without having to spend too much on them. But right now, I have neither, and I don’t have any plans to obtain them.

Heck, I could have a whole bunch of popular collectibles (like the glow wands, but also the Disco Egg, Starry Egg, Red Pinwheel, any Pokéball collectible, and the Weird Doll), and try to sell them at more affordable prices.

In order to get more TBT Bells back into circulation, what needs to be done is for a new Animal Crossing game to come out, and it must be released as a full game with no breakable tools, easier ways to make money, and no paywall to connect to the internet. The faults with ACNH is why the community plummeted faster than under ACNL, and why the marketplace slowed down.

I’m also kinda hoping that the 2024 Egg Hunt has repeat eggs from 2018 and 2017, especially 2018 since they sold the least amount, but were the best-looking eggs.

my take is that the people with a ton of tbt to spend on collectibles are essentially set until something new they want comes around. that they then have enough to essentially buy up instantly. either with their funds or funds+other new collectibles they're less interested in (if they even have to dip at all). while people far less set are essentially scavenging around amongst one another to try to get any reasonable amount to be able to afford any higher-priced items maybe

bluntly speaking, the market kinda just screwed itself

Good thing I was seeking cheaper collectibles over this past week or two to build my “assorted” collectible lineup. Some collectibles, like the Christmas ones and the 2015 Spellectibles I felt were severely underrated. I wish those collectibles had more love. I’m also hoping that the chocolate cake gets its triumphant return to becoming the king of all collectibles.

And yes, some of the richer members who have the Bells to buy the more expensive collectibles may have a difficult time because nobody wants to sell these rare collectibles.

TBH, My original vision for the collectible tier list was actually to not include any TBT prices whatsoever.

Back in 2014-2015 when there were 30-40 collectibles in existence, tracking the prices they went for was a little more necessary and easily done. Now theres something like 250+ tradable collectibles alone, that honestly I don't think selling collectibles for TBT makes like any sense anymore. Maybe for the cheaper <500tbt collectibles this makes sense. Anything more than, like, 1000 tbt is just way too much tbt for a normal collectible like an egg or balloon that no one displays anymore. Trading collectibles for other collectibles once they get past a certain rarity is the only thing that makes sense to me. You trade up, or you negotiate bulk trades, or you trade the collectibles you earn from events. That's basically what how you grow your collection the easiest in my opinion.

The tier list was meant to combat all tbt price points and inflation/devalue of currency. By saying: "White feather, heart wand, & pokeball are all about the same rarity, this makes an equal trade" there's then no need to compare how easy it was to make 10,000 tbt 3 years ago vs today. Sadly, not using approximated price ranges on the tier list got negative feedback from people, so it's basically turned into a new price guide, which is allowing for collectibles like that Star wand to sell 30k tbt.

Idk i'm ranting so maybe none of that makes sense

I have been keeping up with the discussion going on around here but I have a few more theories! First, like all of you said, New Horizons's social and online presence / marketplace between players died MUCH faster and is less active than New Leaf's. This contributed to less posts, less selling/buying and with hackers existing many people got all the items they needed early on for free or VERY LITTLE TBT. Next, the forums are also just less popular so less posts = less TBT. Also birthday bells and ABD interest were cut from the website a long time ago I believe. With all of the factors people have a lot less to spend and to sell. Also, I like making profits off of my collectibles and to me, 100 - 200 is ALOT so I am starting to sell event collectibles for a lot cheaper so that the prices can go down and people can get what they want while I also make a bit! I would rather sell alot of cheaper items then wait 10 years to sell an expensive one. Nobody has thousands of TBT lying around anymore like old users did.

Yeah, as I promised earlier, I won’t demand too much TBT Bells for any new collectibles I sell. However, anything less than 1,000 TBT for a new collectible is still too low for me, unless if it’s those cheaper eggs when they release new egg collectibles. But I didn’t realize how little Bells everyone has.

To be honest, going off of what Jacob said, there’s no reason to sell collectibles for over 10k TBT, not anymore, and there’s no reason to have 20k TBT or higher without intentions on buying new collectibles or art. If you refuse to sell some collectible unless someone pays you a whole lot, you own the rights to it. It’s your collectible, you worked hard for it. As for having over 20k TBT, it isn’t fair to punish users for being inactive when no new Animal Crossing game is out, but what about the other rich members? Is it fair if only 10-20 users have 30k TBT or more while everyone else has less than 5k TBT?

I don’t think it’s unfair - some people sell more things or more desirable things. Some people just don’t ever spend their tbt and after years, have amassed a large amount. It is a lot of unnecessary work to ensure everyone has the same amount, and then who is to say the same thing wouldn’t happen and people would still have more than others? Just in higher amounts like, your 5k now has 30k and your 30k now has over 100k. Plus, a lot of people have tbt in their ABD, which is not publicly seen, so I’m sure the amount of users with upwards of 20k+ is more than 10-20.

Sadly life will never be fair. Some people have more, most have less. The amazing thing about tbt is you can make amazing friendships and sometimes the kindness is unbelievable 😍🥰❤️ I have never had over 10,000 tbt. I have a lot of collectables, a few rare, and only through friends that I love and would do anything for 💖

Yeah, like when you helped out Aquilla get her moon while she only had to do the Pikachu egg part. Or when I gave xSuperMario64x 6,000 TBT out of the blue after reading their post on the Random Thoughts thread back in 2020. Yes, friendships is how we get what we want. And being friends with someone just for their Bells or collectibles isn’t true friendship, kinda like how some poor people marry some rich people just for the money. I may be poor in TBT, but I am rich in collectibles.

I also have similar opinions towards lower-tier and higher-tier collectibles (like I find the yellow candy to be worthless, but the pumpkin cupcake and Christmas collectibles are well-designed, and I see the appeal behind the glow wands, but not behind the weird doll).

Aquilla has been my friend for years and I’m sure a few tbt or collectables isn’t why we are friends. She does as much for me. Real friendships are two way. Random acts of kindness are amazing and I have done a few ( not going to list as it’s not about me 💜) and had some amazing kindness from friends. My top line of collectables are gifts 😍🥰❤️

The glow wands are never going to be affordable sadly 😔

My snowflake wand isn’t just unaffordable. It’s not for sale. You could offer 10,000 TBT, sprites for my future video games, or even a 5-day trip to Disneyland in California (which is something I want most from what I listed here), and I’m still not going to give the snowflake wand away. But yes, it’s kinda hard to get the glow wands now, except for the planet one, which even that’s not going to last long.

Totally understand, the new wands are gorgeous and mine are also never going to be sold.

I would just love a star or heart wand 🙈

i used to have the glow wand set, i was sure they would eventually be rereleased, boy was i wrong

Yeah, with the exception of the butterfly wand and planet wand, I would like all glow wands available, including the animated moon wand I felt entitled to in 2016. However, judging by my current collecting behavior, I’ll have to stick to the snowflake wand as my sole glow wand, and if I were to get another animated collectible right now, it’s gotta be the green pinwheel.

While everyone else is more interested into having uniform sidebars like those rainbow sidebars consisting of two or four types of collectibles, I’m more interested into making mine diverse in categories. Like only one balloon, one glow wand, one egg, one potion, one arcade collectible (my Tetris Grid). I even threw in the apple and the chocolate cake.

oh man i have to tell my green pinwheel story every time it comes up:

So I participated in the fair where it was released, the only event I got a staff favorite in was “Caption The Picture”. I was really new and didn’t really have any cool collectibles so I was super excited at the end of the fair as they went through all the event threads posting that green pinwheels had been distributed for the staff favorites. But they stopped at Caption The Picture. Lol 😭 It was the only event that didn’t get pinwheels. I was so sad. And then in the next fair Caption The Picture returned, and that time the staff faves were awarded the animated collectible. ☠️ Now whenever I see a green pinwheel I still feel wistful… haha

One time, Jake did have 100 million TBT, but I think he was playing with the moderation features, kinda like how we weren’t supposed to say “Halloween” for a few weeks after the 2017 TBT Fair.
