Events & Collectibles General Discussion

One time, Jake did have 100 million TBT, but I think he was playing with the moderation features, kinda like how we weren’t supposed to say “Halloween” for a few weeks after the 2017 TBT Fair.

I completely forgot about the second part, reading this sent me back a few years.

oh man i have to tell my green pinwheel story every time it comes up:

So I participated in the fair where it was released, the only event I got a staff favorite in was “Caption The Picture”. I was really new and didn’t really have any cool collectibles so I was super excited at the end of the fair as they went through all the event threads posting that green pinwheels had been distributed for the staff favorites. But they stopped at Caption The Picture. Lol 😭 It was the only event that didn’t get pinwheels. I was so sad. And then in the next fair Caption The Picture returned, and that time the staff faves were awarded the animated collectible. ☠️ Now whenever I see a green pinwheel I still feel wistful… haha
So originally the green pinwheel wasn't animated ? For some reason I thought it was. 🤔 But that was a long time ago, so I might misremember. 😅

Oh, no the green pinwheel was always animated! I just couldn’t remember which “staff favorite” collectible came after it in the next fair, that’s why I worded it kinda weirdly and just said “animated collectible” haha

Okay, thank you ! I am not quite fully awake yet, so I was a little confused. 😅

But talking about collectibles that were super rare back then, wasn't the most rare at that time the Weird Doll or something ?

Yes, the Weird Doll was #1, but the most coveted collectibles at the time were the white feather, pinwheel, and Pokéball collectibles. But even basic ones like the Chocolate Cake and Peach were heavily prized.

I cannot remember what the story behind the Weird Doll is. Was it a collectible you could buy in the shop or was it related to some kind of event ?

It was from Halloween of 2012, before New Leaf came out. The admins intentionally meant to keep it retired until people demanded a rerelease of the doll.

Can we demand a rerelease of the glow wands ??? 😭😭😭
Lowkey, I do think a re-release of some of the current top-tier collectibles might be a good move for revitalizing the market. 👀 They should be hard to get ofc, but it feels like there's a ton of demand and very little supply at the moment. Disclaimer: I'm not an economist and I'm definitely biased because there's several that I want lol

It’s weird because rare collectibles were rereleased in the 2014 fair (red pinwheels, white feathers) but from then on it seemed to be mostly “one run only” when it came to event-based collectibles. Which makes sense in a way, because you want the collectibles to be significant to that event but after a certain point the collectibles become SO scarce (like glow wands) due to people who have them becoming inactive that their rarity becomes more frustrating than appealing, imo.

How about they rerelease the same collectibles once every three years, and not just through the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle? The older glow wands had a long enough break.

mean it's afaik a pretty common consensus that a whole host of the market problems would be solved simply by the staff not being such hardasses about actual rereleases for high demand long since unobtainable items

Starry Egg
starry egg wait have I missed one this whole time

I noticed that collectibles are hardly selling at all, even when made more affordable. What’s going on? I can remember when I tried selling a Star Wand seven years ago, at a price too high for most users. I should’ve taken the 10,000 TBT + apple offer, but I rejected it. As a result, I made 2,000 TBT less with no apple at all. Since then, I learned my lesson on making better business deals, as it’s better to sell a whole bunch of collectibles at a lower price than one high-priced collectible. But now, collectibles aren’t even selling regardless of demand and price. I’m not the only user having this problem.

I think there is less tbt earned from posts than in 2020? Or maybe I just posted more than than now.
But there are less active people on the site right now as many people are done with ACNH.
There are more variety of collectibles than I the past.
Many don't have much tbt to begin with.
Many people try and save what little tbt they can before events. The next one is probably Halloween which many on the site like the spooky collectibles.
If people have collectibles they want to "get rid of" for others, they may trade collectibles or do a split transaction rather than trying to get tbt that many simply don't have.
Collectibles seem to sell highest during an event when people are worried they won't earn enough event currency for all the collectibles they are wanting. That will probably change when more members come back because of a new AC game and see the new collectibles and want those.

I'd just make your post and let it sit a long time patiently and hear out offers. You dont have to accept right away if you don't want. And you may do better with trading than actual tbt. Best of luck on future selling.

Edit oh yeah I forgot to add, you also had people who collected multiple of the same collectible and aren't on the site anymore or they are gone until the next AC game (if they come back at all). That lowers the number of x collectible from circulation. Which is only a problem if there wasn't many released to begin with. I did noticed sometimes the staff limits some collectibles to where a person can only have one in their inventory, but I feel that too is a little unfair. People should be able to have multiple of the same if they REALLY REALLY want to, but I think it should be difficult to acquire rather than just capped.

Another reason why I wish the site had upgrades to collectible slots that cost quite a bit to help slow that down a little and discourage those who aren't going to be very active from doing that as quick.
Maybe the bells used towards the upgrades can be put into a community pot recycled through a raffle where people can win bits of it.

Galaxy egg I presume?
So that was the name. Yeah, I forgotten the name of that egg since I left the site for 31 months.

It’s rather strange that demand for newer collectibles is very low, no matter how you price them. Even when they were all good-looking. I can remember in years past, when demand for a collectible is high, people refuse to sell theirs, no matter how high the offer (like I said about my snowflake wand, and how a trip to Disneyland isn’t going to cut it). And when demand for a collectible is low, people refuse to buy the collectible, no matter how low you price it. Not even the real-life economy works like that.

unrelated but do they ever update the collectible images themselves? weird dolls got this black border around it, could use some sprucing up
