Events & Collectibles General Discussion

If I had a sea bass collectible, I would sell it for 50 TBT Bells, to enforce the worthlessness of the sea bass on this site. But I’ll expect 10,000 TBT to sell a coelacanth collectible.

Or maybe, I was being too generous about the sea bass while being too greedy about the coelacanth. Some items in Animal Crossing aren’t as good as they are on TBT and vice versa. Sure that the sea bass is essentially worthless in Animal Crossing, but people would be more tuned in for a sea bass collectible here.

tbh the sea bass being worthless is far more of a meme born out of frustration about seeing it a lot while ocean fishing, because ocean fishing is generally deemed the 'best' (at least it's the 'easiest') method, as opposed to a truism

I mean it still isn't worth very much, but it's more like upper lower range now iirc, vs actual **** tier lowest trash

basically, in collectible terms, it'd be a solid tier 7, maybe lower tier 6

Idk a common bug and fish could just sit in the shop just like the cake does. Could even be rotated by appropriate season like birth stones are rotated. Or flowers

I ended up buying my favorite collectible from this year’s Halloween event - the green cotton candy. I may buy some Halloween collectibles just for selling at the TBT Marketplace, but I’m definitely not selling this one.

I got the carnival pinwheel!

I’m thinking about having a third set of 10 collectibles for the “assorted” collection to continue growing. I know have something under “pinwheels/party poppers”.

I hope I can get a staff favorite this event so I can have a lantern collectible of some sort. And if possible, I would like the orange mote of flame collectible I deleted eight years ago restored. It’s not giftable, and was only available for the Fire Festival.

I mean if you want it restored, you want to go to the contact the staff board and hope they can

unless you already tried that, to no avail, because of being wiped too long ago or something

I haven’t tried that yet. But I’m not sure if they would restore a collectible you deleted during the vBulletin Era. That’s why I’m shy.

I mean if they can they will, but tbt 2.0 era purge does make it quite possibly not possible

but possibly doesn't mean certainly, until confirmed

I talked with them, and it appears that they can’t restore collectibles that were deleted a long time ago.

I’m not sure if the motes of flame would ever make a comeback (like the snowglobe) or made giftable, but I do have the answer on deleted collectibles.

Onto a new subject, I decided to extend the “assorted” collectibles to 30 collectibles and 10 additional Christmas collectibles (which is currently on display). I would be diverse in categories, but some categories, I would never fulfill, with letters and villagers being the prime example.

I wish event collectibles would go back to being limited stock. The newer collectibles are nice and all, but they never have any value because the supply significantly outweighs the demand.

Likewise, they need to start reissuing old collectibles again. It’s impossible for anyone to get a star, heart, or even flower wand these days, and it makes me sad to see people chasing their dreams with no end in sight. Same with most feathers and eggs. I’m hoping the 2024 Fair will have a bunch of old collectibles available since it’s an anniversary milestone.

Value does take time to establish. Some collectibles with value now were only worth a third or less of what their current value was originally. personally, I’d never want to go back to limited stock. The panic and anxiety over missing restocks was too unnecessary.

I agree. In fact, there’s a lot of collectibles that need to have this treatment.

I think the unlimited stock collectibles was a lesson the staff learned about making older collectible scarce, but they need to be retroactive about it. For instance, there are 300 holiday candles in circulation. That’s exactly how many flower wands should be in total, heart wands should be in total, and star wands should be in total, while snowflake wands, pumpkin wands, and planet wands should be ignored when adding new glow wands. This many 2016 glow wands in circulation will plunge the prices, and make the newer ones more valuable.

They should also do the same to the galaxy eggs, disco ball eggs, aurora eggs, dream eggs; and nightmare eggs. Hopefully the sea bass would have more value than those eggs. And remember, it’s not how much they would sell that matters. It’s if they would sell that matters.

Aw this is such a bummer!! I'm shocked they wouldn't restore a non-tradable collectible. It's not like you're gaining any sort of advantage in the market because of it. I definitely understand it's because it was so long ago, but that still stinks. Sorry to hear about it.

Congrats on the carnival pinwheel! I can't wait to get mine =)

After experiencing the Celeste Chick Plush limited stock chaos where they sold out in like a second, no thanks on the return of limited restocks.

As someone who wants a ton of the collectibles released as part of this Halloween 2023 event, I feel like the amount of Carnival Coins we'll earn by the end barely puts a dent in the amount of Carnival Coins I'd need for the lineups I have tentatively planned. I have to pass on some things like the Carnival Pinwheel and Ghost Kitty Plush entirely and hope, maybe in the future if my TBT supply ever increases again, that I might be able to acquire them.

I don't necessarily feel it's so much a supply issue so much as the forum inactivity slump between Animal Crossing game releases is leaving a lot of people without sufficient topics to engage with to earn TBT through posting. Low forum pop = less people discussing things. Can't spend TBT you don't have. Certainly the case with me. I've responded to most of the threads I feel that I can reasonably respond to, and most of the threads I haven't are topics that I don't feel I have anything to contribute to, like anything to do with Splatoon for example.

That is correct. I remember when the original glow wands came out, I couldn’t sell the heart or flower ones for over 3,000 TBT, as I could only sell the star wand for 8,000 TBT. But this was also when apples used to be like 1,000 TBT. Now, apples are cheap, while the original wands are super expensive.

Yeah, but the thing was that I deleted it way back in the vBulletin era. Had I deleted it during the XenForo era, they would fix the problem. I’m also not going to beg them to re-issue a new orange mote of flame, though I would like them to do that. Am I **** out of luck? No, because the Will-o-Wisp Halloweaster Egg might be a suitable replacement, since it’s technically a blue mote of flame as an egg.

I've always wanted something like this too, lol. I feel like for easter it would make sense to have a year that EVERY single egg is in the shop. You wouldn't be able to buy every single one so like choosing between all of them would be so much fun. Doing that with a fair might make less sense considering those collectibles are generally themed

Edit: that being said, a carnival themed event like this halloween wouldve been the perfect time to bring back feathers, balloons, poppers, etc if they wanted to take a route that wasn't creating a new line of halloween ones

I'd also rather not see limited collectible stocks return; I feel like it adds an unnecessary element of stress for a lot of people. I think the way they have it now, where the event currency is what's limited, is best—even by participating in everything, I can only afford a few of the event collectibles and have to prioritize and choose what I want the most from the shop. If I want more than that, I have to buy from other users. I think that's a good way to keep things balanced. I'm still after a good few collectibles from the 2022 Fair, where I participated in everything except for the gaming sessions and didn't purchase any real-life prizes.

I do agree that older collectibles should get reissued though. I'm biased as someone who would love to have several more feathers and older eggs someday, but they really are super rare and hard to come by. 🥲 Buyers can offer 25k+ in pure tbt and collectibles for one rare egg, feather, or wand and still struggle to find a seller for months or even longer.
I think most people who have them at this point either aren't interested in selling (not saying that's a bad thing, just to be clear—I also have a few desirable collectibles I don't plan on letting go of myself) or aren't active on the site anymore. Even as someone who's been on the other side of things—I won a Star Glow Wand in the raffle event last December and was able to trade it for several of my dream collectibles—I agree that the top-tier collectibles should probably have their value deflated a good bit at this point.

The Frost Egg and Yule Log reruns back in the 2021 Holiday event were a real lifesaver for me, and I've lowkey been hoping that a couple more old rarities will appear in the shop this year. 🙏
