Not counting the red Gyarados, it was in Gen 2. I found a shiny Tangela not long after beating the Elite 4 for the first time. :D

I found a shiny drowsee in gen 2 but didn't have any pokeballs on me ;-;

Technically Gen 3, I got a shiny Tentacool from a guy on the bus thinking it was a glitch. And coincidentally i started to call it a shiny because of the sparkle before i started using the internet. But the one I found first was when I was borrowing my cousin's Pokemon Diamond and while grinding for the first gym I found a shiny Geodude. He probably still has it on it but idk.

My first shiny, excluding the shiny Gyarados in Gen 2, was a Tentacool in Heart Gold.

I voted on the poll only to remember that Horus corrected me one time and explained what I thought was a shiny (that I was annoyed over accidentally running from) was just a gender difference in the Pok?mon.

So, having been playing the games since 1999, I have a grand total of zero shinies (excluding Lake of Rage Gyarados).

Oh no!.. Here's hoping for shiny prosperity in your future.

I've found around 4~5 shinies just in the wild throughout my pokemon career. I've tried shiny hunting before, and it can be pretty fun, but yeah nothing beats a random shiny during training or something haha

ugh my first shiny encounter was a sad one.

I had just started my journey in Sapphire with no pokedex or pokeballs on hand as I hadn't recieved them yet, and whaddaya know? I encounter a shiny poochyena. I had no idea what it meant at the time since I was so young and had never heard of shinies, but I was still so upset I couldn't catch it!

Yeah, him. Couldn't recall his name. Second shiny ever is Quan, my shiny Kingdra.

At least those are cool looking shinies, I once found a shiny pansage (that looks exactly like the normal one only a lighter green) but I wasn't paying attention and didn't have the sound on when it appeared so I didn't know if it was shiny or not so I caught it and named it Shiny? Sure enough it was shiny but then I traded it to my new game before I restarted and now I have a pansage forever named Shiny? ._.

That's not nearly as bad as one of my mewtwos. I've got a mewtwo forever named Boytoy.

I'm not gonna count the red Gyarados in Silver, so my first shiny was...actually, I don't remember. o.o
It was in a friend safari, but I don't remember if it was the shiny Magmar, or the shiny Lampent. I think it was the Magmar, though I recall not knowing if the Lampent was even shiny or not at the time (I was catching pokemon for the 'dex and breeding) since I missed the sparkles and the color palette isn't too different. Thankfully, I did catch it because I thought something looked strange about it.

I've always heard stories of people encountering shinies during the beginning of the game where they don't have Pokeballs so they have no choice but to run from it.

That would suck a lot. D;

I'm surprised Gen 6 is in last place since it's so easy to get shinies in those games. I guess being the newest game doesn't help.

I can't remember if it was a Zubat from Leaf Green or a Spheal from Sapphire. I do remember cloning that Zubat and putting it in all of my games. It's not so much a legit shiny anymore haha. And I erased my Sapphire file without transferring Spheal. oops

My friend found a shiny Seviper in a Zangoose hoard and they killed it. It was so sad. :(

I saw my first shiny in gen two. It was a Geodude and I had absolutely no idea what a shiny was since it was release day and the internet wasn't really that much of a thing....I just killed it and got on with my day since I didn't have any Pokeballs, assuming it was something new and common that I would come across again...

Many years have passed since that day and I've not encountered a shiny Pokemon since...Until today where I caught my first ever shiny Pokemon :3 It was a Golbat in victory road. I received a Magikarp in wonder trade and thought I would evolve it before I put it back into wonder trade, so I like to think it's karma for doing a nice deed instead of just wonder trading a level 2 Poochyena.

I have shiny Pokemon from events and trades but I don't really think of them as 'mine' the same I do with that Golbat.
