Ashamed to say that I had no idea it was the 50th anniversary. Ashamed because I used to love this when I was a kid. Would always watch it with my dad and he watched it when he was always a massive fan. Haven't seen it in many years now, although I had a box set somewhere in the loft
Here's to many more years!
I only got on here so I could comment on this post.
The 50th anniversary was a big day for me. I have only been a fan since about April of 2015 but I was super psyched for this day. I stayed up until 11:30pm the night before, working on a shirt to replicate a Lieutenant Engineer's uniform from TOS. It took me about 3 hours to do. There was a lot of hand-sewing involved.
I wore the shirt to school the next day, along with blak pants and black boots, and a lot of people game me compliments and questioned me. I wish I could have had a communicator or something. I watched as so many people around my school told me "live long and prosper" while doing the hand sign. I was so glad that I could spread the good news to my school and on my Facebook timeline. (I like how the reactions were ST themed too)
I really wanted to watch the pilot episode of TOS but my internet and cable were out. That was very disappointing. But I still had a great day.
Today in school out news cast filmed my segment for the school news. I talked about the 50th anniversary and the series' impact on society and sci-fi. I am educating my peers about this show because it is usually favored under Star Wars. I want people to realize how awesome it was and still is.
Wow,fifty years....to put things in perspective,Walter "Pavel Chekov" Koenig turned 80 years old today and his character was the youngest of the original cast.I don't see Star Trek ending any time soon since there's probably going to be at least one more feature film and a new series starting next May.Live long and prosper indeed.
i watched a lot of the next generation when it used to air on tv when i was a kid, but haven't seen any star trek since. i started up the original series about a week ago, and it's SO MUCH FUN. happy 50th, star trek
