Yeah,my grandmother used to make nopales with a red chili sauce similar to the photo above.I thought it was pretty good.Nopales comes from the word nopal which is the Spanish name for the prickly pear cactus.It has kind of a tart flavor similar to green beans.The fruit from this cactus can also be eaten.I have sometimes been compared to a tortoise but eating cactus is where the similarity ends.
I've only had the fruit, but I've seen the cactus in the grocery store. I think I'd like to have it prepared in a restaurant than me trying to cook with it for the first time.
