House of Nightmares [FINAL ANSWERS]

I'm disappointed in myself for not getting this one; I've never played GC, but I know who Farley is and I've seen pictures of him. I think I might have gotten it if I'd bothered to look at the darn thing upside down. I didn't look at it for too long because I wasn't expecting a second AC character.

Who in the world!? I had no idea the mirrors could be turned upside down, but even if I knew that, I don't think it would have helped me any.

For the record, my guess was Bowser.

It'd be nice in the future if the characters chosen were actually a bit more recognizable - more in the line of the first mirror. The actual mirror themselves can still be difficult, but at least with more known characters, people have a chance of being able to solve the puzzle. The past two mirrors, I feel, are only solvable if you know Nintendo like the back of your hand or have happened to play that game before and remember that character. As a result, it makes the event not very fun; I understand if that's the purpose of this challenge, to be challenging, but at least make it an enjoyable experience for people...

Oh my, who in the world is Farley? I unfortunately didn’t play much of AC on GameCube. I genuinely thought it was some old man from The Legend of Zelda, but to each their own.

I don’t feel too bad though, I even checked a wiki that states 600+ AC characters and he didn’t appear, so I wouldn’t have found it even if I tried.

why are we still here
just to suffer

because people who like puzzles are addicted to them out of stubbornness - but making a good puzzle isn’t something you can just slap together - it takes nuance and an understanding of your audience.

To the person who said whispy woods isn’t an unknown character - I have no problem with that mirror and have mentioned no problem with it. But if these are going to be all Nintendo related puzzles - thT makes it a very exclusive type of puzzle and shouldn’t be listed as a generic puzzle game - it should be called Nintendo’s house of mirrors - because then people who like puzzles know the theme. Just like when you got to Trivia, you know the theme in advance. Going on an animal crossing forum looking for a fun and difficult puzzle, seeing precious examples during a previous fair theme called retro video games - forgive me for thinking that the puzzles would be related the dreams in general and no solely Nintendo characters recognisable only to people who play every Nintendo game since 1987

if people can guess what it looks like and not be able to find the answer without wasting days of their time, then it’s not a good puzzle for kids on a forum.

From the opening paragraph on the first post:
For the fifth time since 2013, we'll challenge you to correctly guess Nintendo characters amongst a sea of confusion.

This event has appeared several times and Nintendo characters have always been the subject of the mirrors! It's fine if you're new to it and misunderstood, but nothing about the theme of this event is/was meant to be misleading. If you don't have at least a working knowledge of Nintendo franchises (which I don't agree is unreasonable to expect from a forum userbase dedicated to a Nintendo IP) it's not going to be an easy game for sure, but that's why there are many different types of events to enter for the fair. :)

Lol, there was not way I was going to be able to guess Farley, since I've never played AC on the GameCube. I kept seeing Kana from FE Fates in the mirror x(

Fair point - I see that - but to counter; there’s a big difference between a working knowledge of Nintendo franchises and knowledge of a character that appears in a single game in the entire franchise that’s 20 years old at a time when consoles weren’t wide-spread and the puzzle maker calling it an easy puzzle. Is that a joke? This is the opposite side of the curve of knowledge - with knowledgable about things, you lose perspective of what it’s like to not know. Know your audience - a lot of people on here are young, and forgive me for thinking that these should be accessible puzzles for everyone, not just the select few who get off on being obsessed with the Nintendo franchise. I still believe that if you can guess exactly what the character looks like and not be able to google them, then this isn’t a fair, fun or accessible game. Which defeats the point of the events.

Pretty sure I haven't seen this dude around much, also Justin up-side down for easy the **** lol...

... i give up on these they are much harder than 2017...

I don't think 'knowledge' generally is the main issue, it's the thing whether you actually remember stuff about basically any game and have the brain to focus on certain things not details..which I think me included a lot of people do and thinks it's like a squid when it's a tree etc. Also I have to say 2020 was way harder than 2017, probably cause I was more into gaming then and some back then were more 'giveaways' so except kracko you could at least trace more (also the first dodo once was extremely misleading lol)

Also just because you are here doesn't mean you play only 35 Ninty games per year either lol.

I legit knew it was this character and spent about 5 hours googling "nintento wizard with blue hat pink flower walking stick" and all I got was multiple images of Toadsworth 🙃 I scrolled through all 2000+ images of SSBU spirits to no avail...my efforts were for nothing!!

I haven't played it, only watched a person streaming it and I don't think they showed him at all, sooo yeah. don't feel bad xD

Yeah also that staff trolled my with the "fire" thing cause it looked like a hammer 100% so I was yeah, that blue ice climber dude. Also all the dark blue was really trolling too... my first thought was Lunala lmao

I'm not familiar with that character, so all my mind could come up with was this... (needless to say I didn't submit anything LOL)

I CAN'T UNSEE THIS NOW OMG 😂😂😂
This is a cultural reset omg

@JollyOli @sheilaa Both of your posts have mostly gone into a matter of opinion so I don’t see a reason to discuss it further, but as far as this particular challenge goes I also don’t really think Farley was the best choice for what was supposed to be an easier mirror, given his relative obscurity despite being an Animal Crossing character, and having him upside down really put it over the top - I have played the game and know who he is and I never even came close to seeing him in the mirror, so yes I know what you mean Sheila about not remembering every character you’ve ever seen before and about focusing on the wrong things in an image (I got thrown off by the colours and stopped even looking for a shape). However what I meant about having a basic knowledge of Nintendo is you’ll at least have some ideas of things to google if you can’t get it.
Anyway Justin simply misjudged the difficulty of this mirror, it’s not the first time it’s ever happened.

(in general not to Justin specifically 🤣)

oops ignore post I didn't see that it was announced! Looking forward to epically failing the next one, these are quiet fun
