House of Nightmares [FINAL ANSWERS]

This game should offer participation tickets because it’s easily the highest maintenance game and biggest causes of STRESS during the entire fair lolll
ngl the coloring pages are the biggest cause of stress for me rn, i'm not going to beat myself up about simply not knowing things haha

anyway i found a slightly better match for the pic but it still doesnt feel like a perfect fit. if i dont find extra time to research later it'll be my guess. it is what it is 😗

I think that would lead to a lot of people just submitting something without even really looking at the mirrors :p unfortunately there is no way to reward people for being 'close', so only correct guesses getting something does make sense

but the stress, it's real

You think it’s hard to take a photo of you and two plushies playing the switch? Or to draw a line drawing of an abstract dream?
-And those events offer 5 tickets for participation! This could be 1 or 2! I can understand they wouldn’t want to review each one personally to asses how close the guess was in the same way that the ‘what’s inside the jar’ event does, but I think a little consolation for the people that search through hundreds of picture would be a king gesture!

True. Maybe I put too much effort into the contests 🤔 Wouldn't that still be unfair? Someone who just submits 'mario' for every mirror receiving the same amount of tickets as people who spend hours and hours going through google searches andcharacter lists?

I don't know. I still kinda like it this way, even though that means I'm not getting tickets every round. :p

I do like the idea of there maybe being a "2 tickets for submitting a guess for every mirror" in the future (so if you attempted all of them, you get 2)

Yo it's really your choice if you want to stress yourself out and spend this much effort trying to guess the mirror 😭 I knowwww mirrros are a stressful game but if they cause this much stress to you then don't play, or don't beat yourself up about it
I personally don't think mirrors are worth the overstressing about, as i said if i know it then i know it, if i don't then that's okay. I have other things to do besides go through a list of hundreds of characters. If I wanna waste my time intensly guessing a mirror over studying/working then that's on me, not the mirror or the staff.

also "you think it's hard drawing a line drawing of an abstract dream" please don't downplay artists man. art isn't as easy to many as it looks. :(

I’m putting in a lot of effort too - personally I don’t see the difference between spending 30 seconds sketching a picture on paint or 30 seconds trying to work it out and then submitting an answer. Which I’m sure some people are doing on both events. But when I compare the maintenance of drawing a picture for 1 hour and not winning and still getting a prize for drawing which is still an enjoyable task, to the maintenance of spending 3-5 hours stressfully searching through google which isn’t enjoyable at all - I think that a ticket per guess and a bonus for trying them all is a perfectly reasonable offering to those who really try hard only to fail.

You saying you like it this way is fine - I get it, but the brand of this game is clearly just to be unrelenting and brutal (and somewhat elitist to dedicated gamers) Which I think is kind of an ugly brand. But anyway, I’ve (over)shared my opinion on this event a few times now hahaha but it’s in my nature to be critical and think and offer improvements, whether asked for or not - it’s probably one of my main flaws, but it does have its advantages to those who don’t take it personally and see the blunt honesty as potentially helpful lol I know there are people who disagree, but there are also plenty who agree and don’t feel comfortable constructively criticising on forums. Whenever I make a comment I try to offer a rationale and a solution. I said it before, I don’t think the event has to stay the same just because that’s what it was before.

Oh I already decided not to, but I detailed why I keep talking about it above lol

Curious question but if 3-5 hours of stressfully search through google isn't enjoyable, why are you spending so much time over it and comparing it to your 1 hour of enjoying drawing, especially knowing you won't get a prize in the former event?

I'm not gonna comment on your preference on participation tix. That's your opinion and I do think it's valid.

Also just wanna mention about you thinking art made in 30 seconds will fly past the staff's radar. The rule is that low effort art won't be accepted. I don't think I saw anyone even do that. Please stop downplaying art & the actual effort people put into it. Drawing seriously isn't as easy as you make it out to be. :(

I mean I’m not anymore which is what I said in my previous comment lol

As for some of the stuff I’ve seen on the other events - I’m not saying it’s easy - for my first dream sequence it took me 8 hours and it’s not very good and I’m a somewhat practiced artist. But I can also tell that some of the things I’ve seen didn’t take more than 5 mins to muscle-up. Sorry if that offends you, but it’s just an observation. I’m well aware of art difficulty levels.

Oh no I only have 12 hours to find out which character it is 😭 Cmon google don't fail me. I think this this only event that actually makes me scream LOL

Well what you think only took 5 minutes might have been the best someone could've done. Not everyone has access to high quality drawing materials or exceptional applications for digital art.

along with what matt said, that 5 mins is still 5 mins of effort. participation tickets for nightmares would reward people for 5 seconds of minimal thinking as you can just throw any character out there.

i'm not saying it wasn't the best they could manage or that there aren't varying degrees of experience, but they have access to a smartphone or computer to post on the forum and not to pencil and crayons? I'm not judging their effort - I'm pointing out that it's FINE if they can only produce a 5 minute piece of art, I'm also suggesting that people getting a few tickets for throw away answers on this event isn't the end of the world if it gives the people who did spend a lot of time researching a little something for their time. Why do I feel like y'all are taking this personally because I suggested that this event should give away a ticket per answer lmao

i'm not taking this personally, i just don't think people should be rewarded for not trying to solve a puzzle event at all. hoodwinked is the same where only correct guesses get tickets and i've seen people take days to solve those as well.

you've mentioned that this event stresses you out and have made it quite evident several times, so on the contrary i'd say the discussion is personal for you and i think it'd be in your best interest to just leave this thread and focus on other events.

Ok, let me throw in my cents here since I feel like my opinion might add some interesting discussion.

I feel like there’s two good solutions to this problem.

1. Discontinue the event entirely. It’s clear that a lot of people get stressed, angry, etc. over this event, and it’s not mentally healthy. I personally never submitted an answer for mirror 3 since I was having trouble trying to distinguish anything despite it supposedly being easy, and tried to stay calm about it, but got really upset when the answer was revealed since I knew who the character was. And in general, this event sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other events. For the counting event, when people find out they were off in their guess, they may get a little upset, but you don’t typically see them get angry or stressed. I know getting rid of the event may seem like a ‘some people complained so it’s ruined for everybody’ move, but people have fun with Crazy Dream Sequence, they have fun with Counting What’s In The Bottle, and Half-Past Hoodwinked is a comparable event and is generally more well received. The fair is meant to be fun, and House of Mirrors seems more stressful than anything to me.

2. Make the event exclusively about Animal Crossing characters. This would make the playing field more fair for everybody, and cause less of ‘Google searching for hours on end without any idea of what you’re looking for’.

Dang I've lost all the nightmares so far but I wouldn't want them to discontinue the event or make it easier. It stings each time I get one wrong but this might be an opportunity to learn to lose more gracefully.

That’s quite a strong request - I’m only justifying my opinions, which I don’t really find very stressful. The reason I wonder if you are taking it personally is because you feel the need to point out my stress over the research as a reason for me to leave a thread when I’ve pointed out 3 times now that I’m not doing the research anymore. I have my opinion about the difficulty levels and the tickets and you can either agree or disagree - I’m justifying my reasons for i those beliefs in a discussion, not suggesting that you are being rude about the effort of others or telling you how you feel about things and suggesting you leave. I’m an adult and can decide if a situation isn’t healthy for me to be in for myself; hence why I already explained why I wasn’t going to continue taking part - I made that decision for myself, and would kindly ask you refrain from making assumptions,

It is called house of nightmares for a reason
Plus just skip it if you don’t like it
There are a lot of events some people can’t participate from so I wouldn’t say it’s unfair

actually it’s called house of mirrors and has been renamed to fit the fairs theme about dreams
I’ve also already explained why just because something is a certain way, doesn’t mean it has to stay that way forever.
If you’re going to claim it’s fair - then you should explain why, just saying it is doesn’t make it so. Anyone can draw a picture, anyone can trace. They all get participation tickets for those events. Half past hoodwinked can be tough, but never this tough and anyone can have a go, even kids with help from their parents. This game is highly inaccessible and requires prior knowledge, panders toward a specific set of people or requires a level of research that isn’t enjoyable for a lot of people.

@BiggestFan - I think levelling the playing field would be more appropriate - all events are accessible to some degree and this one is the least accessible so far that I’ve seen. Which is why I’ve offered my constructive feedback in regard to this. There are ways to make it hard without making it inaccessible.

I just want to say that I am enjoying this event despite not getting any of them right so far. I sort of started off expecting that would be the case but I've still been attempting to solve them because I really think it's fun. A little frustrating at times, sure, but that's just the nature of the game. Each time an answer is revealed, I feel like I learn something and can come at the next one with a better strategy. Eventually, I hope I can become an actual competitor in these things. It absolutely won't be during this fair, but maybe in the future.

Maybe that's just my overly analytical brain talking, but that's my opinion. As for this mirror, I'm unfortunately going to have to throw in the towel. It's the end of my lunch break and work will keep me busy until the reveal. I don't even have a guess this time, but I'm looking forward to seeing who it is.

Good luck to everyone else!

This is how I felt when I first participated in this event years ago too! I remember the first mirror I ever guessed on was Dr. Mario and I still couldn't get it 🤣 (I guessed Chibi Robo like what) All the struggle is worth it for the satisfaction of finally getting one right, haha.
