1. not necessary. a lot of people getting "stressed" is just the usual frustration with puzzles and peoples' mental health is not actually at risk. i've seen way more people having fun with event with only two or three people mention any actual mental toll. if the house of mirrors/nightmares was an actual issue and a health risk there wouldn't be so many people participating, i think you're overlooking things here.Ok, let me throw in my cents here since I feel like my opinion might add some interesting discussion.
I feel like there’s two good solutions to this problem.
1. Discontinue the event entirely. It’s clear that a lot of people get stressed, angry, etc. over this event, and it’s not mentally healthy. I personally never submitted an answer for mirror 3 since I was having trouble trying to distinguish anything despite it supposedly being easy, and tried to stay calm about it, but got really upset when the answer was revealed since I knew who the character was. And in general, this event sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other events. For the counting event, when people find out they were off in their guess, they may get a little upset, but you don’t typically see them get angry or stressed. I know getting rid of the event may seem like a ‘some people complained so it’s ruined for everybody’ move, but people have fun with Crazy Dream Sequence, they have fun with Counting What’s In The Bottle, and Half-Past Hoodwinked is a comparable event and is generally more well received. The fair is meant to be fun, and House of Mirrors seems more stressful than anything to me.
2. Make the event exclusively about Animal Crossing characters. This would make the playing field more fair for everybody, and cause less of ‘Google searching for hours on end without any idea of what you’re looking for’.
2. there are over 400 animal crossing villagers not including npcs so searching for hours can still be applicable, plus many villagers have the same silhouettes. we also saw how upset people got with farley, so would people be upset if more obscure ac characters were added? my bet is yes, and then we'd have a small handful of people say that those familiar with older titles have an unfair advantage and nothing actually changes as far as reception of this event goes.
on the other hand, from my own perspective as someone familiar with ac and as someone who's decent enough at this event, animal crossing mirrors would just be too easy and therefore be immensely boring.
