Nintendo-developed Switch games here are generally AUD$79.95 on release, whereas it looks like the Nintendo-developed Switch 2 games will be a standard AUD$109.95.

Usually partner-developed Switch games are around AUD$59.95 on release here. It's a bit harder to tell for Switch 2, but it looks like they'll be around AUD$79.95.

I'm not really sure where to place my vote! I want to vote for "this is crazy", but I will still buy games at that price. I suppose I'll be a bit more thoughtful that I definitely want the game before making a purchase though!

I wasn't planning on getting the Switch 2 for multiple reasons. The confirmed price tags on Nintendo's products just ended up adding to my personal list of why it's a no for me. So the poll options isn't for me.
I maaay be more willing to tolerate the prices on super loved titles, like Animal Crossing, if what you purchased wasn't locked into the console for eternity. I wouldn't be deterred from buying indie or 3rd party on Nintendo systems either if the games were connected to your Nintendo Account so it was carried over to any new Nintendo system you purchased in the future. It is completely doable, but isn't done. Especially since Switch 1 games weren't all that special when it came to console gimmicks. Switch 2 has mouse function. There is just no reason to not have games to be attached to your account rather than locked into a console for eternity even if we were strictly discussing 1 st party games.
But again..(for me) is it worth dropping a big wad of cash for just a couple of games and the console when I could go somewhere else and have a handheld and more games for it? Exactly.
If enough people delay buying or straight up dont buy from Nintendo, the game prices should drop, or Nintendo may do more bundled systems later around holidays. But I don't know much game prices would drop. I think Nintendo would only drop the price a little and then see how people respond.
And.. just as a side note, you may pay $80 for a digital game and there is no guarantee that any future updates will be free. They may still charge you for Updates or a DLC pack... And you are already paying for NOS for multiplayer... Which with Mario kart World, it is very multiplayer focused. Or they may get you to pay a higher grade of NOS in order to to have a "free" update/dlc thing. You just don't know until you already bought the game and some time passes. That doesn't sit right with me personally, considering the game is already $80 from the get go. And this stuff couple be applied to any Nintendo game at this point.

Not only will I not be purchasing the console because $450 USD is absolutely ridiculous - $50 short of a PS5 slim or an Xbox Series X, which are undeniably much better consoles, hardware and library wise.

Then you start to have $70 games, which I’ll pay for an incredibly large or detailed game, not DONKEY KONG?? And hearing reports that some are going to be more puzzles me because I don’t feel that these games are going to be that worth it. Like, I would pay $70 for a game like GTA VI. (Although, now it’s probably going to be more expensive, but whatever). I wouldn’t pay $70 for Donkey Kong, or Mariokart…

Oh and you need Nintendo online too if you’re going to play with your friends…

I see it as unfortunate. Annoying yes, but nothing I can do about it. Nintendo games and consoles never go on sale and I’m going to get one to play Mario Kart no matter what so I don’t have a choice in the matter.

It’s annoying. £50 for a switch game was / is a lot anyway. But I guess that means I’m already used to carefully considering whether I’ll get a game. I don’t think I’ll get many games (when I eventually get the console), honestly maybe just animal crossing if I can borrow Mario kart from someone like I did with the switch. I’m really hoping there’s a switch 2 lite lol

I'm indifferent, since I never planned on getting a Nintendo Switch 2 in the first place. But these prices are crazy, and for games that will most likely just end up being average. It's all hype and excitement now but just wait until people start playing the games. "Oh, it's just average, but it's MK so I have to get it. It's Pokémon so I have to get it."

The same thing happened with the Switch in 2017, hype and excitement until suddenly, "Oh.....the game lags. 30 FPS only. Dexit"

I'm actually just indifferent about everything in general, at this point. I'm happy to just go back and pop in MK Double Dash on my GameCube if I'm ever in a MK mood. Which I haven't been in a long time. I'm not in an AC mood, but I will eventually start a new town in Population Growing, just for the vibes and music. And good dialogue. We'll see, though, because sometimes I say I'll do something, but then I never do.

The thing I've been happiest about is seeing Tepig come back as a starter 🐷🔥

If Marvelous ever remakes Story of Seasons Trio of Towns exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 I'm going to be extremely devastated and conflicted. It's the one game I'd love to see come over to console, even if it's just a port, or a Special Edition a la Rune Factory.

It seems they're selecting one game from every previous platform to remake. From the GBA, they chose Friends of Mineral Town, from the GameCube they chose A Wonderful Life rather than Magical Melody, from DS they chose Grand Bazaar, which was a huge surprise.

Next is 3DS, so maybe just maybe Trio of Towns? Don't mind me. Just wishful thinking. If it never comes to pass, at least I already do have Trio of Towns on 3DS

But anyway, I'm indifferent about Nintendo Switch 2

The cost of everything is going up. It makes me think about which games I really want to buy now. I may even hold off buying the next Pokémon games if they are anything like SV. It really comes down to quality of the game now. I will definitely get the new AC and Zelda games for the Switch 2. I think the new AC will be better than NH, at least thats what I am feeling at the moment.

I’ve yet to see confirmation about the physical edition price increase in North America at least, so I’m waiting until then to really form an opinion. Best Buy had it listed for 80. 🤷‍♂️

Today it seems like there's mixed messaging now. Games might be $80 instead of $90? I think either way it's still a very steep increase. Hopefully Nintendo addresses it directly soon

I think you are right about the hype. I wonder if we will see alot of Switch 2 consoles and games hit the second hand market, whether through gamestop or FBM/Craigslist/offerup kind of places. If not for sale, I could see alot of people trading games. This of couse is assuming people have physical copies. But the consoles could be found I bet. Hopefully not beat up..

It will definitely make me more selective of the games I get. Charging $90 for a game on a small cartridge is absolutely atrocious. As of right now, only the next Animal Crossing (whenever that gets announced) and Mario Kart World would be the only two games I’d get. Basically, prices for everything keep going up, and many corporations never listen to the complaints. Greedflation is a very real thing, and yet very little is being done to can it. It doesn’t help that we have a moron for a president, voted in by morons.

I really don’t have a strong opinion about the console price itself (it was to be expected), but games will not sell as fast with prices like this. Jumping from $60 for a top-tier title to $90 is way too much. Waiting for sales to come by (if they’ll even exist for the first party games) is going to become much more commonplace. My excitement for some of the games got drained out very quickly once I found all this out. It’s very disappointing.

I am incredibly shocked... but not surprised? I feel like I prepared myself for an insane increase but I almost couldn't imagine Nintendo doing it. I feel like Nintendo didn't really follow trends until recently but I don't plan on purchasing a Switch 2 due to my distaste with the original as a Wii U / 3DS owner.

Sorry but it's going to really damage my perception of Nintendo as a video game company.
Just paid £60 for atomfall on ps5 with fantastic graphics, there's no way I can see myself paying over £70 for mario kart, it's not happening

I think we need to wait and see, there is a chance they may change the prices in the future. I know some of you may not remember but there was a huge amount of backlash when the either 3DS or DS came out it was really expensive and there was an uproar and the prices did change. I do not know or think that will happen this time but you never know. I have seen some screenshots of games being in the 50s-60s depending on the game/maker of game. I guess we will see but I expect from here on out all games from even different consoles are going to be expensive.

It's going to be nearly 700$ here, and I still can't believe it, but I'm not exactly surprised it's so high due to how prices are rising for everything. Still that's alot to ask for, esspecially for casual gamers like myself.

Plus including the cost a new game for it too. I feel bad for the people who really want it, and can't afford it. Esspecially with these prices

This is shocking, but not surprising. I’ll only be picking up Mario Kart World, most likely. It’s a game I’m very interested in that I know I’ll get my money’s worth.

It just makes me curious how many people are going to be online, on Mario Kart World, on release day, knowing how expensive it is. I hope I’ll be able to find some people, given the game would’ve probably released in Japan first.

Game preorders are slowly popping up on other sites for $80, so I’m hopeful. But yes, I definitely agree on the clarity part! I don’t think the potential misinformation is doing them any favors.

honestly, the game prices have lowkey put me off of it. not that i was going to buy that many games in the first place, just MKW which i'd have gotten bundled with the console, and maybe the new pokemon game. my interest in that dropped a lot after hearing it's more battle-oriented, and with that kind of price... might have to be a later purchase. i thought the price for NH was daylight robbery considering the state of the game at launch, and even during its first year of life, so i can't imagine getting a new AC and paying £75 for it only to have a similar experience. even that franchise is something i would wait to heavily research and read reviews on before forking over so much.

It really sucks, and it unfortunately killed some of the hype for me. I was already pretty selective when buying switch games at $60, so with the new standard for big first party games being either $80 or $90 physical, I feel even more anxious about choosing which games I want to play myself and which games I'm happy enough to experience through watching others play it. On top of that they're selling the performance upgrades for switch 1 titles, so thats even more to consider. Its getting to a point where console gaming has gotten much too expensive and less accessible for my budget. Its the reason why I've mostly drifted to PC, thanks to steam sales and recently their new steam family share feature.
