HOW do some of y'all restart your islands so easily?!

I also hope this game isn’t a preview of what’s to come because it’s definitely changed the name of Animal Crossing. That’s a whole different point, though. I think this tutorial phase has been a factor in how many times people reset. I definitely wouldn’t want to do this tutorial phase more than once.
Ugh, tell me about it; I had to repeat that tutorial **** four times due to creating four extra avatars on my island. >_<

I could never restart my island, I’m far too attached to it. I am totally remodelling though, and that’s going to be fun :D

it's a bad habit, every time i get even slightly bored of my island i impulsively reset it to have a new theme. i'm proud of myself tho, bc i've never ever finished a whole island/town (i've been playing since city folk but only started decorating since new leaf so cf doesn't really count) and they never get past like 40%, but my current island is like 60% done and i really think i'm gonna be able to completely decorate it so if that happens it will be my first time ever!

I guess one of the reasons why restarting can be addicting is that you can get different island map layouts and of course do all the achievements all over again to gain more nook miles again since you missed the "fun" about it. I completed all the achievements on my main island so I don't delete it. I prefer to do that to my 2nd island most of the time whenever I have the urge to do it again, but I kinda over did it last year so I am trying my best to take it easy.

I bought another switch and another copy of the game to avoid having to restart
my island. I adore my villagers too much to start over.

Also, the beginning of the game is the most annoying thing on the planet! I hate the stupid grindy aspect of it.

One thing I'd played around with was getting another Switch, but I'm not sure if I'd ever bring myself to do it... my SwitchLite started having issues with drift and it's since carried over in some of my other games. And of course the temptation of starting over, but not wanting to redo all of that progress. Getting all the items, recipes, stuff for the muesum... it's just too much work.

Totally relate to that comment about the beginning of the game. I was so worked up over whether or not I was gonna be able to hack it that images from the game and "Steep Hill" (the song I had playing on my bamboo speaker at the plaza the first few days) were trolling me in my dreams :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes it was easy because I knew what I wanted some of my islands to be but when I restarted again for my new island I couldn’t think of a name for my island so I asked for help and advice until I thought of Buttercup and I already knew I didn’t want a theme for my island. And then I decided what villagers I would want - ones I’ve never had before

Yes I do restart a lot but this time I’m not. Anyway I’ve never actually collected everything but I will try and collect everything this time.

i have more than one island so i kept my very first island since release and the others i restart. i wouldnt do it if i only had one switch, i would just flatten it a lot haha
about the diys and stuff i see a lot of people trading for them or using treasure islands to get most of them back so it doesnt take that long actually.

It was much easier restarting on ACNL for me. If my town wasn’t working out, and I didn’t like how the layout was going, it was pretty easy to start a new town. Have someone hold a lot of money when you restart and do time travel to get what you need. On ACNH I feel there is so much more to collect and obtain again. If you want to get a nice outside, you need so much furniture. Also the thought of terraforming over and over is a bit much for me. I don’t think I’ll be restarting anytime soon on New Horizons.

tbh for me, recollecting everything is the funniest part for me in restarting my island, if there are some things i simply can't live without i can bring it to my new island from my bf's switch. i love the feeling of a fresh slate with a world of new possibilities, but it just simply might not be for you (which is totally fine)! don't let others actions pressure u into anything u think u would truly regret but also, don't let ur fears hold u back if u know deep down it's what u want. best of luck to u [:

i wanted to redesign my island but didn't want to lose my items/bells/diys/progress, so i went through the very tedious task of demolishing literally the whole island, all of my terraforming and decorating. it took forever but i'm glad i went that route instead of restarting entirely. it was kinda nuts, i made my entire island into one big flat field.

Same here. I've restarted so many times last year and there are times where I may get bored with the island that I made and just do it all over again. Then again I have other games to play so there's that.

I’ve only reset once and I somehow got everything I wanted so now I can never reset again. But that’s the main reason I reset. Like if there’s any little thing I don’t like about the layout or if it’s not the right airport colour or fruit I can’t stand it.

I totally see your concerns about restarting and honestly if I were you, I wouldn't.
I think? you would lose your mario warp pipe and that thing is handy.

I started mine over a couple of times so I don't have my 2020 save. New Horizons was my first Animal Crossing game, so I was still getting the feel with how the game works and what kinds of things to look for in my island. I don't really regret starting over, as I am happier with my island since restarting, but I do miss my warp pipe. I will probably keep my current save, and I do have one older save sitting in my computer that does have all the items cataloged and diys except the most recently added ones. I think the DIYS are the biggest feat to achieve to be honest and it really is a good deterrent of starting over. Even if the terraforming in this game is so tedious... I mean you could just time travel to get the diys, but the rng on those things are so annoying that you can easily get burnt out on the game from just doing that simple task.
If in my current save I ever get tired of its layout, I think I will just flatten the island and leave it at that. It gives more space and produces less fuss.

I think in the future if I were to ever pick up a new animal crossing game say the next game, I think I would keep whatever save I start from the get go since I am more familiar with the game. And it seems something I noticed on the forums, that many people who did lots of resetting in New Leaf ended up regretting it and didn't reset in NH or they only did during 2020 and no later. I don't know if New Leaf was their first animal crossing games or not but just something I kind of noticed.

Resetting my island was a very hard decision to make. I had had it since day 1 and put in around 1000 hours into it.
It was almost the perfect island.

However the airport was an ugly yellow, and the fruit was cherries. I wasn't happy with either.
They were 2 small issues, but they were enough to stop my island ever being perfect.
No matter what I did to the island, they would still annoy me.

So I reset it.
It wasnt easy to do, and I was very scared I would mess up moving over all my stuff such as all the photos I had collected.

I spent hours and hours trying to get the right island. Right airport colour and position. The right pier. The right rocks. The right peninsula.

But in the end I got it all right.

And as much as it sucked losing all my progress from the original island, I now have one that is perfect.

If anyone ever wants to reset because of factors they can't change about the island.
I say do it.
But put in the effort to get the perfect layout and do not settle.
If you settle, you'll just want to reset again.

I have only restarted my town once, and it was the second day that the game came out, so I don’t really count it as a restart at all.

I can’t imaging how others do it. I hate the tutorial at the start. I also have found it easier to tear down an area and rebuild it than restarting the whole town.

Once you have a map idea, it becomes easier to decorate. At least that’s the case for me. Sometimes I feel a little bit like resetting when certain areas don’t line up exactly how I want them to, but that’s never a big reason enough for me to reset. I figure when resetting, there’s never going to be a perfect map. There will always be something that you prefer was a different way, and that keeps me from resetting.

Back in new leaf the main reason for me to reset was because I didn’t like my town name or character names ( and that’s impossible to change). In new horizons, it’s different. I had a long time to think of the names, and I’m ok with what I chose. I don’t see myself resetting. I would be crushed if I lost my island.

I have never restarted my island, and I don't plan on it. My plan for the game, as I've mentioned elsewhere on the site, is to 100% the game, including fully completing the museum (which is done now!), fully completing the catalogue, getting every villager photo, crafting every DIY at least once, and doing every HHP home. If I were to restart, I'd lose all my progress I've worked towards this goal. I do, however, plan on getting a second Switch some day and a second copy of AC:NH, so I would have an opportunity to work on a second island there!

Ugh, tell me about it; I had to repeat that tutorial **** four times due to creating four extra avatars on my island. >_<
I had to do the tutorial an extra eight times, soon to be nine. Why eight, and not seven? Because I deleted one of the characters and remade it. I absolutely love having the extra houses to decorate, I just prefer having houses instead of fake shops outside that people were making. I have a Starbucks, a mall, a restaurant (that is going to be remade because I want to rename the character), a school, a castle, a wedding chapel, and my most recent addition, a Build-a-Bear Workshop (previously it was a house to store and display all my seasonal decorations, but now that we have extra storage it was unneeded and I'd rather make a BABW!)

I'd restart if I didn't care about losing my fully completed museum, all my DIYs, my complete catalog and all my Nook Miles stamps...
at least now I can dump items I want to keep on my sister's island and come back for them
