HOW do some of y'all restart your islands so easily?!

I've never thought about restarting any of my islands, I don't care much about the airport colour, flowers, etc, but the thought of losing my original Buck scares me! šŸ˜¬

I just restarted my island for the very first time. My diys and catalog kept me from it for quite awhile, but I was so bored that I finally did it. I didnā€™t have anybody save anything because I really want to do it all again myself. If I really need something, I can find it at HHP or get it online here. Itā€™s honestly so easy to get things now. Iā€™m having a lot of fun starting over.

I got the game when it came out in 2020, restarted in October 2021 so I'd be done with the tutorial before the big 2.0 update came out. I love my current island even more than my last one and am so happy I restarted. Things like my airport placement and color, beach rocks, secret beach and pier location, and town center being farther from the entrance are all a lot better. I'm also much happier with my character name. Having some experience with terraforming when I started the design of the island has worked out well, and my current island has a more cohesive theme and more clever bits and pieces to it than my last one. I actually enjoy finding new recipes, clothes, filling the museum etc. gradually again. Before I had everything already so I didn't get tiny little bits of accomplishment when I caught or found new things so the game was getting stale, but the restart fixed that. Since I don't time travel I'm still finding new things every month to get to keep playing fresh. I'm also doing a project where I go through a bunch of different villagers via my amiibo collection and rate them, and that's also keeping things fresh for me and likely will some months into the future, too.

All that said though I don't think I'd be willing to give up this newer island. I may get an OLED Switch at some point and maybe start a secondary island on my old switch after I've once again gotten every last thing on this save file, but this current island is practically perfect in every way and I just can't see giving it up voluntarily.

I just can't bring myself to starting the game over again. The thought of having to collect DIYs again is what really makes me not want to. Every now and then I'll think of how fun it would be to start over, and then I think of all the time I put into my island and then it's no thanks. I'll just continue changing things on a monthly basis to keep my island in season. That's pretty fun for me.

I was a serial resetter in NL and i think that was because I got so caught up in the little details (grass shape, fruit etc) that i never really got attached to any of my towns and once you were barely any of the way in it was easy to just reset again and have that fresh start.

in NH however i restarted once, because I had basically ā€˜finishedā€™ my island and thought a fresh start would help motivate me to play the game a bit more. it didnā€™t really but I donā€™t regret it as such - the only frustrating part is the lack of fleshed out catalogue and DIY recipes. i donā€™t think i would do it again from that standpoint, and also from all my HHP progress - id now rather just tear everything down. plus I know that itā€™s not really going to motivate me to play more - i have to have the motivation separately. i can understand why people reset so much - if youā€™re willing to put in the time it can be fun to grind everything out again, plus itā€™s refreshing to have a clean slate rather than having to redo everything you currently have

that was a big word vomit lmao summary is done it once too lazy to do it again, but can respect the people dedicated enough to keep going

Iā€™ve seen a lot of people just reset their whole island and I just canā€™t Iā€™ve had my island since day 1 back in 2020. I have had times where I didnā€™t like the layout of designs so I just got rid of those items and terraformed so I was happy.

But I couldnā€™t just restart the whole island I just restart an area Iā€™d be to sad having to loose everything and start over again.

Iā€™ve done it three times mostly because the flowers keep overtaking my entire Island and I canā€™t get rid of them fast enough because my shovel kept breaking and lugging around a trash bin to toss the flowers was extremely time consuming and I work two jobs and can only really ever play in the evenings.

I've had the game since mid 2020 and I've never restarted, even though sometimes I get tempted.

But the thought of recollecting DIYS and cataloguing items is the biggest put off for me. šŸ˜«
There are others things, like losing your Nook miles and the things collected for the museum.

Add to that, I have HHP so if I've ever restarted I'll lose all the progress (which is a lot).šŸ˜¶

Anyone shares similar problems or do you guys don't mind restarting and losing progress?
my very first ACNH island started like in late april 2020 i first restarted it on like early 2021 and i still miss it so much like i legit wish i never restarted it but after you restart it once you dont even care anymore even tho starting all over is REALLY annoying

Iā€™ve never restarted either. As much as Iā€™d want to, I could never. I have too much attachment to my island and donā€™t have the creative ability to completely change it up.

I know I said I wouldnā€™t restart either island. Iā€™m right now considering restarting my second island. Iā€™m not as attached anymore and not playing it very often. I have a plan for a new island just not an island name. I kinda want to replay the beginning now that we wonā€™t be getting any more updates.

I feel like this game punishes you more than any other AC game for doing a reset, because of losing all of the DIYs. This game has SO MANY DIYs, and they're a huge hassle to collect them all, as you're forced to deal with slow pace + RNG if you don't trade, or having to trade a lot and do so much searching to find someone with the exact recipe you want/need. The latter might sound easy, but the fact that this community is a lot quieter/smaller than it was 2 years ago makes it hard to find someone to trade with who has what you need at times.

The only things you get in this game for resetting are 1) changing your island name and representative name, 2) changing the location of Resident Services, and 3) changing the features of the exterior edge of your island (river mouths, dock location/shape, etc). That's it. That's so little compared to previous AC games, and to give up the DIYs in return for that... It's not worth it to me personally. But if it makes you happy, sure. Go for it.

I don't. There's too much to lose compared to past games. Especially now with HHP. I'm temped to restart my second island, but I really love my HHP progress, I can't bare to lose it. Mitzi's house especially.

I feel like they should've offered a way to 'sell' your island the way that the WA update allowed you to do so for your town. That way you can keep the catalogue and all that good stuff.

My island's been here since release day too and I'm not tempted to restart, yet. I probably wouldn't be much happier with other layouts. I did have to keep rolling at the beginning though. I wanted to get the desired airport color, fruit and for Town Hall not to be way off to one side or way in the back of the island. It just seemed to work out - Town Hall is right in front of the airport, and there's just enough space there for quick trading. I sort of rearranged everything around it. I have flattened the island once but I'm happy for now. It's always a work in progress regardless.

i was on the fence about resetting my island because i really loved the world i had created. i got to a point in the game where i had everything i wanted and developed/redeveloped my island several times. it just got a bit boring, plus i really hated the name i decided to start my island with.

if my name hadn't been wrong on my island rep then i think i would've probably just kept redesigning my island over and over. resetting probably doesn't make sense for most players since you lose a lot and most in-game problems can be addressed easily enough.

My main problem is that the flowers on my Island keep getting out of control. Iā€™ve tried using fences to contain them with only made things worse as the plot I designated for a certain color of Roses was along the edge of my river and I couldnā€™t close off the area completely so roses started to actually grow outside the fence and thus defeating the purpose. Iā€™ve tried to use the custom tiles while terraforming and I end up with everyone ruining the flowers because they run through them. Iā€™ve tried lugging around a trash bi and digging up the flowers and throwing them away but it takes so long and after an hour I just stop to call it for the day after clearing out a large area and the next day more flowers and weeds appear in the same place as I had just cleared! Iā€™ve had to delete and reset so many times now and I never get past four stars if Iā€™m lucky because there are way too many flowers every single time that my Islanders kept complaining about them!
