First thing's first. Let's not let this thread get out of control. I figure some of you will have strong opinions about this, but let's avoid arguing with each other and have a reasonable discussion. So here are the topics I'd like your opinions on.

1. Do you agree with people getting plastic surgery purely for cosmetic purposes (not for reconstructive purposes like rhinoplasty after a broken nose)?

2. Are you okay with how common it is in some places like the US, Korea, and China?

3. Have you had any kind of cosmetic procedure done, yourself, and if so, what drove your decision to have it done?

4. For those of you who have never had a cosmetic procedure done, would you ever consider it?

1. I personally don't agree with getting plastic surgery to look a certain way. I think that rather than causing harm to your body (incisions, the shaving down of bone, implantation of foreign objects, etc) people should accept how they look for what it is. I choose to view my appearance as the wonderful result of millions of years of my family's genetics combining to create me. I find peoples' appearances fascinating and like the amount of diversity we see in our species.

2. I wish plastic surgery was a lot less common in the US, Korea (where it's much more popular) and China (where it's also much more common than in the US), again, because I'm against it. I think monolids and less prominent noses are unique and beautiful features to have. I also find it strange that the narrowing of the jaw bone is becoming a more popular trend in China and Korea.

3 & 4. I haven't had any kind of cosmetic procedure done, and I wouldn't consider it because of the dangers associated with it (not being able to breathe under anesthesia, rick of infection, internal bleeding, etc).

Edit: Dental surgeries, braces, expanders, etc. don't count :3

1. yea, i agree with it.
2. yes, altho I don't know much about that.
3. braces and expanders for my teeth? if that counts
4. if that doesn't count, yea i would. my braces fked up my chin + my chin is slightly slanted so i want to get the bone on one side shaved off and my jaw pushed forwards.

Braces/ Expanders don't count :3 I'll edit the op, excluding dental procedures.

I think if it makes somebody happy, then let them do what they want.
But me personally? I wouldn't do it.

1.) no, it often just makes you look worse. imo, lip injections look incredibly stupid, and small changes like nose jobs are a waste of money, as you barely notice the difference. these are the genes that your parents passed down to you, you should cherish them. unless there's really something wrong with your face, there's no point in fcking it up
2.) i wouldnt say im okay with it, but it's their business, not mine
3.) i haven't
4.) no. i'm content with my appearance. sure, i do have a baby face and lips that are a bit too plump for my liking, but this is nothing worth spending thousands of dollars on to fix

having a cakey, fake and plastic look to your face isn't attractive or cute. i don't see why people like the look

1. I'm iffy about it, I think if you want to have it done have at it because it is your own personal choice and as long as you are doing it for yourself and no one else.

2. I guess I wish it was less common because there are so many people getting plastic surgery because they don't like how they look when everyone is beautiful in their own way. I mean there are gorgeous people who are insecure about themselves due to things such as social media and feel they need to get these things to enhance their personal appearance.

3. I have never had it done.

4. I would never have it done because I was born with what I have and I'm stuck with it but that's okay with me. I'm not going to try and enhance my personal appearance in that type of way because I honestly don't care if I look like I just crawled out of a garage can or not. People can think all they want about me but I don't care, I've gone places looking like a complete mess and honestly didn't care at all because I honestly don't care at all. I also do not want to be involved with the types of dangers that can occur when having plastic surgery so that's another thing. I would only ever get it done if I had to for reconstructive purposes.

I personally think it's fine but I also somewhat believe that it should be a last resort... if that makes any sense.

I understand entirely that it can make somebody happy, and it'd be awesome to just be like "If you want to look like _____ then go for it."

But on the same hand, I think it would be better to discourage the idea that you should have to pay money and physically alter your appearance to achieve happiness and comfort with your body unless it's for something medical.

1)depends if it is private/nhs and why. like breast enlargement due to low self esteem or smth should go to bus because that affects mental health but if it's just for personal don't waste taxpayer money
2)they don't have free healthcare it's their money
3)no
4)depends how i feel

1. I don't agree with it, but I can tolerate it. If people have their own hard earned money to do it, then they can do whatever they want to their body without having to deal with people getting in their business.

2. Again, I tolerate it. It's not like plastic surgery used primarily for cosmetic purposes is funded using our taxes for Healthcare services (or at least I don't think so).

3. No

4. I don't really need to change my appearance, so most likely not. It could also leave scarring, which would be the complete opposite of what you want.

i think if someone finds a way to make themselves feel better about how they look then they should be free to do it. i dont think people should be shamed for having plastic surgery, just as i dont think people should be shamed into having plastic surgery. its fine to feel proud of your appearance and its fine to want to do with your physicality as you will. your body is yours and you can alter it however you please so long as its your choice. whats the point of living if u cant pursue happiness in whatever way life makes available? do what you can for yourself, i say. most plastic surgeries ive seen i think end out worse, but if the person likes how they look thats all that matters. people arent living to please my eyes! please ur own eyes baby

the cosmetic surgery i would have done is breast removal, as im transgender. even though it can be summed to a greater mental health importance than "cosmetic" it is considered that by insurance agencies (and not covered for that reason) so ill count it. i wouldnt have any other face or asset alterations/enhancements though because im not very self aware of my appearance, i just wanna pass lmfao

Yes, who cares it's not hurting anyone.

2. Are you okay with how common it is in some places like the US, Korea, and China?
Well the difference between the former and the latter two are places like Korea/China have America-European beauty standards and a lot of the plastic surgery they get seem to revolve around that. So while I'm fine for people doing what they want it is kind of disappointing in that sense.

3. Have you had any kind of cosmetic procedure done, yourself, and if so, what drove your decision to have it done?

Nope

4. For those of you who have never had a cosmetic procedure done, would you ever consider it?
No unless I live til 80 and my face starts melting

I'm absolutely fine with it; if somebody wants to change something about themselves then go right ahead.

2. Are you okay with how common it is in some places like the US, Korea, and China?
I think it's an interesting commentary on different cultures to see how plastic surgery is much more common in some places than others. I do think it's sad that people may want to change something about themselves because of society's ideals etc., but if somebody is going to be upset every time they look in the mirror then they are free to make that choice

yeah

1) Not at all, I think people should be happy with their own appearance and body, it's how God created us. Plus it's a waste of money. People should judge you on the inside, not the outside
2) Not really, it's upsetting seeing more and more people getting plastic surgery every year.
3 & 4) No I have not and have no future plans to.

All in all, I'm against plastic surgery, except for those who have been damaged and need plastic surgery to fix them and make them look normal again.

to everyone saying that it's a waste of money/doesn't make a difference -
what if people can afford it without damaging their financial status? is the fact that it's expensive a reason 2 be against it?
and it actually does make a difference, nose jobs included. ik 2 people who got nose jobs and they look sooo much better and they themselves agree. they r happier and a lot more confident (one of them is a ***** now tho).

also adding to my thing, if plastic surgery were not legal then my uncle wouldn't have much of a job and same w many others :( ik this thread isn't about making it illegal but still I wanted to throw that in there.

1 I suppose so. Uhh, I don't really have any experiences but I don't care much.

2. I don't care really.

3. No, not really.

4. Unless I had to do it because my face was melted off, I wouldn't.

Yeah I never understood the "waste of money" argument towards pretty much everything like I guarantee everyone has plushies or figurines or some collectibles cards or something that don't amount to anything either so ?????

1. No, I don't agree with plastic surgery. Most of the time, the reason people get plastic surgery is because they find an irrelevant flaw within themselves or they are too self-conscious about how other people think they look. Also, when people actually go through with it, the surgery just makes them look worse than when they started, at least that's what I see. Then the person that got the surgery will most likely end up regretting it for the rest of their lives. I get that some people get plastic surgery done to make themselves happier, but they end up wasting thousands of dollars and they will just get mocked and ridiculed even more than the originally did for actually getting plastic surgery.

2. I really wish people would just accept themselves for who they really are and stop getting these pointless surgeries that just cater to insecurities. Getting plastic surgery just raises the the standards for how someone should look, and then it just gets more people to get plastic surgery, and it's just a huge spiral that doesn't need to exist.

3. God no.

4. I'm never, EVER going to get plastic surgery! EVER! I think I look fine just the way I do. :)

How can you tell if people have had plastic surgery though, as well as know what they looked like before? Not talking about celebs btw.

1. Yeah. Don't like the way you look and can change it with plastic surgery? Go ahead. Does it change my life? Not one bit. I'm all for it if it makes you feel better.

2. I honestly don't care how common or not it is. It isn't really a huge world issue that bothers me. If it's common, okay. Not common, that's okay too. Not my body, not my place to judge. It's the exact same way with tattoos.

3. Never had any procedures.

4. I've wanted plastic surgery since the 5th grade. I've been bullied my entire life (I'm almost 22 now) and I honestly hate what I see when I look in the mirror. It's not something I can fix with makeup or going to the gym like some people can, I would need plastic surgery and it would honestly make me feel better about myself. **** the genes my parents passed down, they suck, I hate them, I want them changed.
