Same with catchphrases?
(Hope this the right forum btw, i only played acnl but I seen some gameplay of the gamecube one and saw they do the same there sometimes)
but, yeah. Personally I don't like it especially when they use the default designs at Able sister's store.

Sometimes I don't mind the catchphrase change but god sometimes it looks horrible coming from other villagers.

Example: Poppy saying Derwin's phrase which is derr LOL. It's gunny but I love Poppy's og catchphrase for her.

can be good for laughs

one i had my entire town saying "woink" and wearing a suite lmao

I usually let them be and change into whatever they want (not including the able sisters ducky designs — I change those to umbrellas straight away). If they change into something absolutely horrible I usually carry around spares of cute clothes on me in case they ask to buy it and change into it right away. I have a few of my own designs in the shops and they tend to wear those after a while too which is really nice!

i should try that, must be rly cute to see them walk around in your designs ^^

For me, it depends. Sometimes it's perfect. Sometimes it sucks. For example, I have Ankha's catchphrase as "peasant" because she's a snobby cat that thinks she's better than everyone else. But then Fauna started saying it and I didn't like it at all because Fauna is the sweetheart of the town. It didn't suit her.

Once, Lucky changed into Ankha's mummy shirt right in front of my eyes and it was PERFECTION. He has since changed out of it unfortunately and is now wearing a Zelda custom design. I don't mind it. But there are some village who I'd hate if they changed outfits. For example, Ankha. Her mummy shirt is the ONLY shirt I'd like to see her in. I also once had Clay the hamster, who looked adorable in his default shirt. However, once he changed out of it, he lost his appeal (to me). I also like Dobie's sweater vest and would hate if he ever changed out of it. Then there are some villagers that just look adorable in anything, like Fauna. She has put on so many shirts in her lifetime at Azulon and not a single one of them looked bad on her.

So honestly, it's very dependent on the situation. I really like that they do this (copy each other and follow trends) but I wish there was a way to revert what happened sometimes. Or that it would be easier to get them to change their outfit without having to send them a million shirts only for them to put them up in their house as furniture and ruin their interiors. But I'd rather them do this and deal with it rather than it not be possible. It just can be such a pleasant surprise sometimes, and it's not like the changes are permanent. It'll always change eventually so I just be patient and wait til they decide they're bored with their outfit/catchphrase and change.

It is super cute! My mayor and alts all have designs up in the shops so it’s kind like a little fashion-popularity contest right now. So far my mayor’s design is the most popular haha!

If it's fashionable and fits them, I'm all for it, but if it's ugly as hell I feel so bad because... how unacceptable from one of the elite villagers whom reside in my humble town.
For real tho I don't mind if it suits them. For the catchphrase it annoys me a bit because I think each catchphrase matches its "owner" or "sayer" whatever and when they change it feels odd in my opinion.

I like that the villagers change over time and don't remain static throughout. It would get very boring for me if they always stayed exactly the same way they were when they first moved in. Changing their clothes, their catchphrases, and the furniture in their homes makes them feel more real to me.

I do replace any designs at the Able Sisters that I don't want them to wear with either custom designs of my own (although I'm not that good at making designs) or umbrellas. That helps keep the spread of ugly shirts down a bit. I also gift my villagers nicer shirts if they change into something really horrible.

There are certain villagers that look good in almost anything. Like Hugh has looked good in almost every shirt he's ever worn. Then, there are villagers that really only look good in their original shirt, like Sterling. But it's easier to focus on just keeping one or two villagers in their original shirts, rather than a whole town.

For catchphrases, I love changing them. But I usually pick something specific to the villager so it doesn't sound as good when another villager picks it up.

However, all of these things pass. If a villager changes into a shirt I don't like or picks up a catchphrase that doesn't sound good for them, I can be patient and know that they'll change again soon enough.

I made custom designs just for my villagers. Lobo is really the only one that wears them. It seems like he has a new one on every week. Theyre little sweaters with collars of various colors (and they honestly look adorable on lobo). If I see something at the Able Sisters that I think will look particularly good on a certain villager, I will buy it and mail it to them. They rarely wear it, but when they do, it is quite satisfying. I just sent Freya a preppy shirt the other day, and unfortunately she did not decide to wear it.

Usually I like how they change their clothing over time. Especially if it's something that looks good on them. For example, one day in Taiga, Nate gave Midge his Spring Shirt. It turned out to look really good on her. In my opinion, having my villagers wear different clothing helps me feel like they are more unique.

Unfortunately sometimes the outfit they trade around isn't the greatest. For example, there is a plague in Fireleaf right now of villagers wearing the Kiwi Tee. It looks good on some of them, but there are so many better things they could be wearing.

I've had good and bad experiences with this. Once, all my dude villagers were wearing a shirt with human boob cleavage on it. I wasn't wild about that. But recently, Walt moved into town and immediately changed into a handsome samurai kimono I had designed. I was super excited about it!

Back then, I didn't used to care. But somehow I have been infected with the originalititis. (You need to keep every villager in your town original as possible)

As stated to my other thread I had way back, I'm afraid of villager conversations now, and this reason of villagers changing their clothing is why I only stay out of my town for no more than 5 minutes. Because after 5 minutes, a villager conversation commences. And if I'm not fast enough to break it up, then they may change their clothes, which is a hassle to change, especially the Gracie/Camper RV clothing.

I'm also quite cautious when it comes to delivering gifts. I save and continue before I gift the villager the gift. When they change their clothes and stick with it, I reset the game (I don't have the Reset Center built, because I'm rebellious to the Reset Center) then sell the gift to Re-Tail and forget everything that has happened.

I used to let them do what they wanted, but I made a mistake a while back giving Bruce a Batman themed catchphrase and it spread so I put a stop to that.

In Fandom as of now though, I made multiple colored shirts with I'm a Fan on the back for them all to change into if they don't want to wear the Stylish Suit I keep sending them...and I am slowly changing everyone's phrase to "I'm a Fan" And their greeting to "Senpai" and they are slowly callng my Mayor M'Lady...and I love it.

Depends on how well their original clothing suited them. Even if if it does not look that good, oh well. I would rather have them wearing a silly shirt than have multiple shirts in their house trying to fix the issue, thus creating another issue. Catchphrases I care less about as they are easier to change and I can control them directly.

This is intense.

Sometimes it's really funny when they copy each other's catch phrases? My friend had muffy say "muffpower" and within a week, half the town was using it :)))) even after muffy moved to my town, some of the villagers there still say it she's so powerful but also there are times when someone who isn't a dog says "rr-owch" and it kinda bothers me but i don't go out of my way to get them to change it.

For clothes though it depends on the villager. Julian looks good in almost everything so it's fine when he changes but zucker........ looks very strange in any shirt that isn't the pudding one? I mean i can live with it but it just looks weird :)))) but since I've already sent him two shirts (both of which he used as furniture) I'm gonna avoid ruining his house by just accepting that it really do be that way sometimes

It depends for me! I don't entirely mind them changing their clothing as long and it's nothing ugly or anything, but catchphrases do annoy me a bit. Lucky is currently wearing a suit shirt I designed and I don't mind cause it looks really really cute on him! Most of my villagers are and some I kind of wished didn't because it doesn't look right, but it's an oh well from me. Lucky however also took Julian's catch phrase, and although I adore Julian and Lucky, Lucky saying Julian's catch phrase just looks really silly and I wish he didn't change it so heckin' quickly!

For clothing, I generally don't mind it. (Unless they all start wearing the same pattern at once, which can be annoying).

But for catchphrases, I typically don't like it when they share. I often give my villagers species-specific catchphrases (for example, "in a tree" for a squirrel, "up my nose" for an elephant or anteater, "in a pond" for a frog, etc.). And sometimes I even give villager-specific catchphrases ("my stubble" for Limberg, for example). So when they share those with other villagers, it annoys me. It's particularly bad when several villagers keep saying a catchphrase they learned from a villager that doesn't even live in town any more. I know I could report them at town hall to change it, but I'm usually too lazy to do that. :p

if the clothing change is bad, and they ask how it looks, i always tell them it's horrible so they'll take it off lol. other times if i don't have a choice in the matter, i just have to live with it. for catchphrases, i try to come up with a catchphrase that's as cute as their original, unless they get one from another villager. i never report anything because sooner or later, they'll eventually change clothes and catchphrases

I really don't care if they change their original clothing, catchphrases or all start calling me the same nickname. The one thing that grinds my gears is when they choose to wear the pattern clothing. It's mostly my fault cause I don't really design clothes hence Somebody from Anytown is all the rage in my town but still doesn't make it any less annoying.
