• Guest, can you feel the love in the air? Valentine's Week at The Bell Tree has begun with a new mini-event featuring four activities to enjoy -- new and returning collectibles are up for grabs! Dive in to the love here.

How do you really feel about DIY’s?

DIY were a good idea but poorly planned/tested.
Adding crafting 3,000 DIY furniture and tools to Nook Miles was a big mistake and why Bulk Crafting can't be added.
Bulk crafting 40 pieces of furniture would only take pressing the button 75 times.

2nd year the Devs did a better job fixing the Easter and Ornament DIY. The Fall DIY Events is one they should have fixed.
S.H. Island players had issues trying to finish those Events and nothing got changed. How are 8 players sharing an island suppose to complete Event DIY?

The repeat of one DIY on the same day or for the whole week is poor testing. The last 2 months both islands have been getting repeat DIY. Main player found the cutting board DIY in a bottle. When she checked on the villager the DIY was a cutting board. During the week Extra players found the Cutting board DIY in bottles on beach and Kappa Island.

Okay if I have to see one more "Vine Outfit" I am going to lose my mind and of course this is how I REALLY feel whenever I get duplicate DIYS for like the 5TH time!

They're poorly executed.

Some changes to make it better would be

  1. Allow Nook's Cranny to sell DIY furniture. This way if you don't have the recipe, or don't want to craft it yourself, you can just pay bells for the finished product.
  2. Prioritize giving players DIYs they don't have. Countless times a villager crafting in their house will give you a duplicate DIY. The same can go for message bottles
  3. DIYs shouldn't be locked behind personalities.

And as a side note, we should be able to choose the DIY color during crafting. The game just needs to require a Customization Kit for the recipe.

Holiday/Seasonal DIYs are a separate problem. I think there should be a better way to obtain them other than hunting down balloons. Balloons should continue to drop them for lucky players, but players should have a fun activity they can participate in to get them. Also, if a villager is crafting in their home during a season, perhaps they should have a chance to be crafting a seasonal DIY they can share with you.

It would had been nice if there was a feature or npc that could turn your items that you don't want into materials. Say like a common trashcan could give you some iron and so forth. And that's not even taking in account the lack of QoL features that would make this bearable. Bulk crafting, pulling from resources in pockets/storage, being able to switch from craft to customize without exiting, and so forth.

I never knew I wanted a deconstruct feature until now.

I think the biggest problem is they wanted people to trade for them instead of you getting them all yourself. It would of been nice they didn’t give you duplicates until after you got all of them. Balloon hunting really got to be a pain with so many DIY’s only available that way. The thanksgiving DIY’s were great since you can get them from Nook’s after the holiday. It would have been nice if they did the rest of them this way. Seasonal/Holiday ones should be able to be crafted by the villagers.

I definitely agree about the food DIYs, I think the cooking is cute and a nice way to get food items which have always been some of my favorite items in the game. And it’s nice because it gives your kitchen a use lol. But I also agree in that I don’t like the normal DIYs. It’s frustrating because so many of the furniture items I want need the same type of materials like iron nuggets or regular wood , and it’s a hassle to collect the materials. It just adds a lot of extra time to the game that could be used for other things. Especially since things like clay and iron nuggets and stone have such limited quantities you can collect in a day unless you want to go on a bunch of tours to find more stones. It was just easier to order things from the catalog, and it still added an element of challenge to the game since you had to collect the furniture before it became orderable.
