Just curious, mostly I see people online say they play their Switch 100% of the time in portable mode, I must be the only that perfers dock mode lol
1st party games I always play on TV, but some games like Overwatch run well only in portable mode. So that's one way ill just play portable at times, I never take my Switch anywhere, my job is a messy one.... so that's out the question. Lol
I strictly play the Switch in docked mode. All the reports over the years of JoyCon drift has put me off ever wanting to even bother risk using them, and just in general I prefer to play video games on a big screen instead of handheld. I love a lot of handheld-exclusive games, like on the DS and 3DS, but if it were possible to play them on the tv I would. I use a Pro Controller for most games on the Switch, though I use a GameCube controller for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
I play nearly 100% in handheld mode, except for RingFit Adventure (which has the nice bonus of charging my Switch for more handheld play). Having to set up everything to play on the TV is too much of a hassle for me, I'd rather just pick up the Switch and be able to play right away.
I use 100% handheld. I usually just play at my desk or on my bed, plus I don't really have a TV or monitor to dock my switch to so I haven't experienced that yet. Sometimes, but very rarely, I'll play tabletop on my desk if I need to use my pro controllers.
I mostly use TV mode for playing large open games such as breath of the wild and my workout with ring fit. I play Animal Crossing usually in handheld which makes it easier to just grab it in the morning or in the evening for quick shores on my island. Even when playing in front of a TV, I would put on Netflix on the TV and play AC handheld
I play my switch mostly in handheld mode as I often multitask while playing it and will usually be watching something else on the TV, also it’s easier for me when I want just have a quick play on a game like AC to not have to keep switching the game between dock and handheld.
On the odd occasion I play one of the sport or fitness type games then I’ll put it into the dock as it’s really the only way to be able to effectively play a lot of those games. When Super Mario 3D Allstars was released I also replayed Sunshine in the dock mode but every other game I nearly only use handheld for.
i mostly play in docked mode, since i'm also worried about joycon drift (especially on my animal crossing switch). i also like using the switch pro controller. i don't mind using my switch handheld, but i don't think i could ever get a switch lite and totally remove the ability to dock my switch, no matter how nice the colours are, haha!
I play 90-99% handheld. Only time I play docked is for games I use motion controls with being Mario Kart, Splatoon and Mario Odyssey mainly. I find the motion controls translate awkwardly when playing in handheld mode. The rest of my games are always handheld.
I’ve only experienced one set of Joycons drifting that I’ve had and used regularly since 2017. I sent them in for free to get repaired by Nintendo last year and they are as good as new. So the drift issue hasn’t really been a big deal for me personally.
I like playing in both modes, but I find handheld better because I can walk all around the house with the console and just hang out in my bed with it if I feel like it.
I used to mostly play portably since I liked the liberty of playing wherever I wanted. However now since I have a monitor in my room, I mostly played docked with my Pro controller, which as another user has said, generally helps wear down my Joy-Cons less.
I play handheld 100% of the time. I’ve never liked playing games on the tv because I like being able to move around and not feel trapped in one spot. I did try docked once, but it made me dizzy and I was worried about it triggering a migraine.
I play docked pretty much 100% of the time. I don’t have much reason or opportunities to carry the Switch around with me and play it, so yeah. It is nice that it is able to do that though.
It depends on the game for me! I'm not sure why Animal Crossing just feels like a handheld game to be, maybe because I've mostly played WW and NL only before. But I guess it's also a practicality thing? I am often playing with other people, or setting up trades, and when I move around the house I just want to take it around with me so I can see what's going on, who's coming and going on my island, etc.
I think generally I do play it in handheld mode more often, unless someone is watching me play or I am playing a couch co-op game.
i can only ever play on the TV because my joycons actually drift into next week so i gotta use my pro controller
i'm normally the only person that uses the tv so i can stay on it as long as i like but when someone else in my house wants to use it while i'm playing, then i gotta use handheld so i go to my room and stand the switch up on my desk because i refuse to use my joycons
I only ever play in handheld mode. I grew up playing on portable consoles and having a little private screen all to myself, so it's just what I prefer. Plus, the TV is shared with the whole family, so I wouldn't be able to play that much in docked mode anyway. I was honestly really tempted to get a Switch Lite, but having to send the whole Switch in for repairs as opposed to just the Joycons if I started having drift issues scared me off that idea. It's possible that I may get it set up to play on the TV at some point in the future, but for now I don't really feel the need to.
I play handheld 99% of the time and actually forgot that you could hook it to the tv until a few months back hahah. As much as it’s nice having AC on the big screen it sometimes hurts my eyes/strains my neck and I feel I can’t relax compared to playing it handheld
I play handheld most of the time but sometimes I do get the urge to dock it and play on TV. (I cozy up in bed a lot at night to play since I have a bad back, so it's nice to be able to take it with me.)
