How have people IRL responded to your enthusiasm for NH?

Maybe this is a strange thread, but I'll explain--when past AC games have come out, I've always faced quite hostile or patronising responses from people IRL who discover I like the game. "It's for children" or whatever. But there seems to have been a big shift in attitudes towards AC (and maybe games in general) in recent years, and suddenly I've had people say it's cool to have played AC for such a long time. This is so strange (though welcome!) for me!

So I'm wondering, what have other people's experiences with this been like? Are you getting positive or negative reactions from people for being keen about NH?

Most of the people I associate with have no idea what I'm talking about. And when someone asks whether or not I think they should buy the game, I generally tell them no.

Suffice to say, this game isn't for everyone. Though it has a wide range of appeal because of the diversity of activities, it simply isn't a game for "gamers."

Mines are 'They're still making that game?' and my favorite..'You're about to be 31 years old this month, why are you playing a game for babies' (this happen a day after I pre-ordered the new one)

Other then that, they don't really care.

I've got quite a few "grow up" comments when New Leaf came out, but by now my family accepted that this is a serious interest of mine that won't go away. They don't judge, but they don't really understand.

Nobody I know in real life really plays animal crossing, so I only talk about it to my closest internet friend Becca. I know if I were to engage in conversation about the game with people I know in real life I'd get similar comments about the game being for children and whatnot. I've faced similar backlash for my love of cartoons. People really just don't understand me or the things that I like.

When I explain my excitement they don't get it, probably think I'm weird for being excited for a video game this much.

I've never gotten anything negative about playing AC, but I noticed what you call the shift in attitudes towards games in general.

I started playing AC in 2005, and my interest hasn't faded.

Some things are timeless.
I believe AC is one of those things.

My mum actually got really happy because she knows how much the series means to me :)

I've never gotten any strange or hostile responses about games I play. Granted, only my immediate family and good friends know I'm excited about AC, since I just don't really talk about video games to people I don't know well. My family doesn't find it weird (in fact two of my brothers, who are in their mid and late 20's, plan on buying the game as well), and I have a few friends who are just as excited as I am.

Nobody knows what it is! And if they do (or if they at least acknowledge that it's a video game) they look at me like I'm crazy. "How do you have time to do that?!" Lmao.

Everyone is happy. Son and daughter play ACNL. Niece and nephew played the older games and have good memories.

The only people that said it was a child/young adult game were players on Club Tortimer.
Happy Nintendo made a mom and daughter ad. Hope the next ad is the whole family playing mini games.

My best friend IRL kind of knew how crazy I was about ACNL. We lived together for about 4 years so she also saw me play a lot and I would try to geek out about it with her but she didn't understand the appeal and wasn't interested. She just got a Switch though! Although we don't really play similar games at the moment, she said she is planning on getting ACNH which surprised me

My girlfriend has adopted a sort of amused concern, as I don’t think she’s ever seen me so hyped for a specific videogame before. She even started to play my old copy of New Leaf to see what the fuss was about but decided it wasn’t for her, which is cool - now she won’t want to ruin my island by doing things her way :p

Meanwhile one of my friends is also trying New Leaf off the back of me asking him if he’d like to pick up New Horizons with me and play together online. His work has kept him so busy that I’m worried he isn’t getting a chance to experience the “daily routine” aspect that I find so relaxing, but he’s got plenty of time to get a feel for if it’s his sort of game or not by March 20th.

Don’t really know anyone else IRL who has a Switch and might be up for it, really. I don’t tend to talk about videogames with most people IRL, not because I’m embarrassed or anything but more because unless you’re with a fellow super-fan of a game you mutually enjoy I don’t think it makes for interesting conversation.

I guess I?m quite lucky, but I have a lot of friends who love and play Animal Crossing (we?re all in our mid-/late-twenties). We even have a whatsapp group to share news, memes and hype about NH. But I?m still by far the ?worst? when it comes to talking waterfalls about this game from all of us.

Most of them started playing with New Leaf, some played Wild World before, while I had the Gamecube version when I was a kid and played every game on release after that. :D

I am not that crazy about the game in RL. Only person I am annoying is my boyfriend because we life together xD Two of.the games I really wanted to play were delayed *cries in cyberpunk* and now he is all the time like: your game will be delayed and laughs evil. But yes like I said I don't talk much about Animal crossing or other games ^^

Don't worry about what others think! :)

I haven't really gotten any negative reactions to it (most are actually quite interested by it, as I explain it's such a peaceful fun game), although I can see that some people just don't get it. But then again, I don't get certain things they're into either, and that's all fine as we're all different and are allowed to be.
