How long was/is your longest lasting friendship?

irl, probably about 4 years
online, about 9 years i think? we don't really talk anymore but we still have each other on instagram

My longest-lasting friendship has endured 42 years. We were classmates in school. We've been through many ups and downs in our lives but we still keep in touch. Second oldest friendship has been for 36 years. We've known each other since our varsity days. We meet frequently for lunch and conversation until this pandemic put a stop to that.

Friendships are important to me because, by and large, I don't make friends easily. I'm a loner. Interacting with people leaves me anxious and exhausted. As I grew older, I just found it harder to make and keep friendships. Most of the friendships I'd had as a working adult lasted 4-5 years before we stopped keeping in touch with each other, largely because we moved apart (to different offices, places, countries etc) or we drifted apart as a result of getting caught up in our own busy lives (getting married, having children, etc).

i've never been good at keeping friends. My "best" friend, who i have known for about 10 or 11 years now, hasn't replied to me in over a year

not that we were fighting or anything. i think they just have stuff going on, and their chronic illness makes it hard for them to text, I think

longest lasting relationships
close friend since kindergarten, omg
one of my best friends irl I have known for 15 years now
my boyfriend and I have been going strong at 4 years

I have 2 friends I've known for around 12-13 years now, which I think is neat. Both I met in primary school.

5 or 6 years, I think. I ended up losing him to schizophrenia caused by drug abuse a few years ago. Don’t even know where he is anymore. Kinda crazy.

I'm friends with someone who now lives very far away (about a 10-12 hour drive) but I've been friends with her since Spring/Summer of 2008. So that's been 12 years. We don't talk all the time but we're still friends and we talk once in a while :)

Her mom is childhood friends with my mom so we've been friends all our lives. But she's also always lived in another city so we go without speaking months at a time. I suppose we don't really have much to talk about, she's always been a friend to hang out and have fun.

I've known one of my online friends for over 10 years. We just met in person last year at a concert too... two international people meeting in Japan for a concert. Great times!

I love him dearly. He's my best friend. Been talking with his little sister a lot too, mostly food. I hope we'll be friends for decades more.

Plus, he bought his switch for pokemon but after much convincing to get acnh... he's hooked XD

7 years, a friend from primary school. though we still keep in touch today a bit.
next longest going onto 4 years. I've also been semi-friends with someone for nearly 11 years but we drifted apart for a few years in the middle.

i'm sadly not really friends with anyone from when i was a lot younger, i met all my closest friends in high school when i was about 13, so i've known them for about 14 years now which is pretty neat

I was friends with someone I knew since elementary school for almost 10 years. We stopped being friends after we grew up into different people, and she became the type of person I didn't want to be around. I felt me growing apart from her for a long time before we actually "stopped" being friends, but didn't say anything because she reminded me of my old life/childhood and I didn't want to let go of that. Looking back I recognize that was really selfish of me for stringing her along like that for so long. But she ended up hurting me more in the end.

Now I have 3 best friends from college whom I love dearly. We have known each other for 5 years now. Although they are my bestest friends, its hard communicating with them because we all live in different states. Long distance stuff has always been really hard for me, and especially with what's going on in the world (and my personal struggles triggering my depression), I have not talked with them much within the past several months. I am trying to get out of this rut and reach out to them more, because I know they love and care about me!

me and my best bud have been attached for 18 years now. even though she moved to another state we still talk, text, and write letters and once this pandemic slows more she's gonna come visit and get the rest of her stuff. i plan on moving down by her at some point especially since her and her boy want me to badly lolz. (we are all pretty close and get along great) but once things happen i'll be off to another country hopefully but i will always visit and keep talking to them. as for how we became friends...she stalked me cuz i was anti-social from being hurt so much (emotionally and physically) but she just kept at it and broke my shell. so glad she did cuz she restored my faith in humans. she's the bees knees. you know those dorky friends you see on tv (like jd and turk from scrubs or shaun and gus from psych) we have that irl and tbh sometimes our other friends get envious but they understand that we both pulled each other from some horrid stuff so it's no wonder we are so close. kinda bragging but idc she's my favorite person in the world. =)

My oldest irl friend is from Kindergarten, so about 20 years now? We don't get to see each other very much anymore, especially because his girlfriend is insanely jealous for no reason... so sadly our friendship has faded to a few messages on Facebook here and there.

My oldest online friendship is 14 years! I met this guy on a game and we hit it off. We both even dated for awhile, lol. He is practically the guy version of me and I love him so much! He has a really cute kid now and we talk every day usually, sometimes there are gaps where we may not talk for a few months, but then whenever we do talk again it's like we never stopped. Glad to have met him.

So my longest relationship/friendship is actually with my fiance. We met at the end of 2015 as friends, started dating April 2016, and been together since. He's my best friend in the entire universe and honestly the only person I'd let ruin my fishing streak in Animal Crossing.

10+ years but we've always drifted apart and then come back together again. although saying that i havent spoken to her for like i dont even know how long now, 8 months? and thats the longest its been. gonna say happy birthday to her in 3 days and see how that turns out

Some people have had best friends since preschool, or kindergarten.
So, how long is your longest lasting friendship?

My longest lasting friendship has lasted almost five years (5 years in August). I don't really remember exactly how we met, other than it was the beginning of the school year during class. It's not as impressive as other people's friendships, but i'm still grateful I managed to get a friend somehow since I was pretty lonely before. We don't talk much anymore though.

Also, if it counts, I have another best friend that I've known for almost 10 years. We were never really friends at first, we just saw each other at school and our parents knew each other. We didn't become friends until 7 years later. Thanks to her I have a few more friends instead of just having 2.
8 years and counting! i met them on highschool lol

My longest have all been around four years. In most cases we just kinda drifted apart or lost contact, though I've also had some friendships that lasted about that long that were... not great for me.

Forty(40) years.I have three friends that I met back in high school and we've more or less stuck together through those forty years. It's odd but our mutual relationship hasn't changed all that much in that span of time.Maybe we just never grew up...heh.
