If you're friends he will appreciate it anyway and it shows you clearly value him as a person - and I suppose it COULD hint that you like him in a "more than friends" way but it's not overly explicit, and you're not over-stepping any boundaries even though he does have a girlfriend. Just keep it casual and cool, it'll only be awkward if you make it awkward. It's natural to be a little shy but don't worry about it so much!
