Ironwood kitchens are overdone (please read post)

I think it looks ok, but honestly in my opinion its done way more than Cottagecore island themes. I'm probably just biased because I never really liked natural looks and themes, and I think the ironwood kitchen set is a bit too much on the natural side for me. I also really liked the kitchen sets we got in previous games (even if they were a bit limited) and for some reason this set just feels out-of-place to me.

But if you use it and like it, go for it. I won't stop you.

I think with the ironwood Kitchen set is that yes everyone uses it and it gets a bit repetitive but like it looks so good so I under stand it

i personally think that a lot of people have the 'overdone' outlook on certain items in NH are because there's a "lack of" variety. and i put that in quotes because most people, including myself, like to match sets when building rooms or areas. and the game itself when you get your happy home rating rewards you for paring up colours and set pieces with each other.

because of the limitations, i've tried really hard to use a different selection of objects when customizing my home; specifically my kitchen. there's a lot of small decorative items, but not many specific kitchen related furniture items. so i feel the damper that most people experience, but in a way, it's almost inspired me to push my own boundaries to expand on what i use to decorate.

personally, i do like how the ironwood furniture set looks. i just wish we had more kitchen-related items that gave us more variety in the 'theme' to our room. a proper wood stove or something would be lovely; more rustic items in general, actually, for the kitchen would make my heart explode.

My kitchen only has the Ironwood Cupboard from the set. Otherwise, it looks fairly modern and primarily colored blue. Maybe I'll post it in the screenshot page.

Reading this thread, I'm surprised no one mentioned the Diner set. The variants of that furniture is incredible usable when designing a kitchen. There are also plenty of kitchen appliances to take advantage of, and much of them match the diner set colors pretty well. If you're tired of 'wood', experiment with that furniture instead.

Anything trendy is going to feel overdone. It's okay to feel sick of seeing constant repeats of furniture being used. In my brain, I can imagine a common kitchen with the ironwood set and I'm sure so can many others. I think that's where a lot of residual dread sits on about the "overdone" feeling.

I don't have a big issue with the set as I'm using pieces in my pirate kitchen in the old wood variation. Personally, I feel like there is still options to depict a different mood even if the furniture set is constantly being overused. Like someone else's ironwood kitchen will look different than mine or that person. At the end of the day, you just really have to not care what others think.

while i honestly don’t really care for the ironwood set in general, i definitely understand why it gets used so much. new horizons offers various kitchen appliances but in terms of actual full kitchen sets, there’s only really 2 to choose from; ironwood and diner. and while the diner set does work well, a lot of people seemingly prefer more natural, “calico critters” style kitchens and in that case, ironwood is obviously the best option.

like everyone else has mentioned, the main problem right now is the lack of furniture variety; a lot of items are overused as there’s only so much to work with right now and unless that changes, we’ll continue to see the same items being used over and over. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I use the ironwood kitchenette because... well, it's really the only option I feel like. Also, OP makes a great point about how it's great that there are several different custom versions of the whole ironwood set you can do. And when you mix and match those with pieces from other sets, you can get a unique look.

The only other good option out there is the system kitchen but, naturally, when my Nook's Cranny got one in shop, it was in.... YELLOW. Even worse, that darn system kitchen can also come in these bright, ugly, primary yellow, red, and blue colors! Would be really nice if you could customize it to your preferred color but noooo, we can't have that, gotta trade with someone who has whatever one you're looking for instead.

Might as well just default to the ironwood kitchenette! Although that comes with the issue of getting the DIY for the cutting board and the dresser to MAKE the darn thing. I got lucky that a friend of mine was able to make the cutting board and I could make the dresser so we could both have the ironwood kitchenette, haha.

I mean this is the first time there’s been a kitchen series in ANY animal crossing game. This is the first time you can have your kitchen furniture match your tables and I think that’s a very cool thing
System kitchen and kitchen island also come in way more colours than they ever did before, and then there’s indeed also the diner set for even more kitchen furniture. I googled ACNH kitchen and I’m stunned by the variety, I’ve never seen so many colours in all the life of ACNL

now if we had all the regular furniture sets back people could even combine it with even more unique options for tables and chairs and food items and such

but imo the kitchen furniture itself has never been more varied

There's no other options for counters in this game so I don't blame people for all having the same thing. I've got the ironwood kitchen set which looks nice in my room, but I may change it when I encounter the system kitchen (been waiting 6 months now, Nooklings)

I like the set, don't use it personally though. By the time I finally got the elusive kitchenette I already had a stovetop and sink I liked more! But overall a good set and choice for any kitchen, it it fits your theme.

Honestly the term "Over-done" or "Over-use" bothers me all the time. I understand if every single person did it and there was little to no variety. But its honestly like telling someone not to do something, because other people have done it.

I mean I personally use 'the path' design for my animal crossing paths, mostly because I wanted a woodland feel and it reminded me of City Folk / Lets go to the city. I know that design gets alot of flack and even cottage core does. Honestly I feel like alot of people take things like this too seriously. Aslong as you enjoy the outcome that you get, it doesn't matter. Whether its a city theme, woodland theme or even the design of what your kitchen looks like.

Its just called have fun with the items they provide you and use whatever you want if it looks good.

I dont have the full set and i am not sure i know how many items it includes, but i really like the parts i have even though i dont really plan on making a kitchen yet. If i want to, i would use it regardless of it being "overused". Also, since i still havent used it much in my island, it is currently actually underused to me XD Doesnt really matter how much it is used by others in general.

I really liked the ironwood set the moment I saw it, feeling it was very elegant! But, as others have said... it seems to be the only full kitchen set in the game. Plus, the rooms are so small that I'm having trouble using much of anything else. The kitchen island is rather large for that space, too.

I'm really starting to feel the crunch of missing sets. Where'd they all go? And why?

I used the entry room, that room people would figure is the living room, for the kitchen. I could put the kitchen on the second floor or in the basement. But, I use the entry room. When you arrive, you see a kitchen/dining or kitchen/living room combo. Depends on kitchen pieces being used.

It works for me.

The ironwood is not a problem for me. I love it. What is a problem—when wanting a kitchen—is the varying room sizes. The back (south), left (west), and right (east) rooms are small. And I use them as first-floor bedrooms or activity rooms.

I don’t really recall “kitchen sets” in previous games. I miss some of the kitchen items though, like the kitchen sink with the cabinets and the kitchen corner. But for the most part, people just used peices of a furniture set with kitchen items.
Ironwood seems to be the first “kitchen set” in the series, as far as I remember. So it makes sense that a lot of people would use it for their kitchen.

This is exactly how I feel!! We finally have a kitchen set that is *also* customiseable, I honestly think it's finally fun to design a kitchen? In older games I'd put the kitchen items in the corner of a little 'apartment' room, because there was only the kitchen items

Yeah like others have said, it's most likely because there isn't a full kitchen set. I like uniformity so I try to use sets but I'm not a huge fan of the Ironwood set. Don't get me wrong, I have REAL furniture that looks like the Ironwood set haha so I'm not knocking it at all. It doesn't matter if a set or even a concept is overdone as long as it brings you joy :)
