where i live, the city and county governments close for the day, and public schools are closed for the day.

they call it the "Good Friday / Spring Day" holiday, but i have no idea where the "Spring Day" part comes from.

businesses are all open however, and most people still go to to work, so it's more of a public holiday than a cultural holiday here i guess. also, it's not a federal holiday, so you still have banks open, mail delivered, etc.

what about where you live, is Good Friday a public holiday?
:confused::confused::confused:

It's pretty much the same here. Schools were closed and some people got the day off but not everyone, and banks and stuff were open I think.

Yeah, pretty much the same here. Schools around here got the day off and all, but public businesses were still open. For example, I got a haircut today, so I know the place I went to wasn’t closed for Good Friday. :)

Where I live, Good Friday is a holiday but it's not state observed, so banks are still open, the mail still runs, etc. But some businesses will close, like mine did today, and schools are usually closed for the entire week anyway because of Spring Break.

For the most part, yes, but my college didn't give the day off (I go to a private college so they don't have to follow the federal holidays). :(

I still had work today, so yeah def did not close for the holiday. My sister also didn't have school today, which I just thought was for Easter coming up. Maybe not. Idk if the bank and stuff was still open, I think it was.

Honeslty I didn't even realize it was a holiday today until an employee ordered a Jamaican beef patty, then returned it cause he said he can't eat meat today. Then later a customer said 'Good Friday' to me, and that when it really hit me, omg it's a holiday today. My dense dumb self haha. For a split second I thought me maybe meant good day like a greeting or today is a good day to have a good day.

Yeah since I work like 9 am-3 pm everyday basically part time office hours it's off(so is easter monday next week) so that's nice, I feel sorry for those who have/had to work yesterday and today(easter eve which is a regular "black" day as opposed to red holiday days).

Where I live most of holy week is a holiday! I haven't had classes since monday, and today (good friday) I'm pretty sure 90% of all businesses are closed xD Usually the only ones still open are the chinese places or the fast food restaurants

King, I believe you know what country I'm living in, so yes, Good Friday is definitely a holiday where I live! Most businesses are closed, save for a select few like fast food chains (though I think our usual milk tea place was closed that day too). Malls are also closed. Even in our busiest cities where traffic is usually terrible, the streets on Good Friday were practically empty as no one is out in a car driving elsewhere. It's a sacred holiday for most of the people here so they're out there paying respects.
We have this custom every Good Friday where we have a procession and walk around town holding candles and such. A lot (and I mean, a LOT) of people join in, which means they aren't required to be in their shops running their businesses.
The rest of the days aren't like as huge/public holidays (like they start cancelling classes on Maundy Thursday), but in my case my uni suspended classes for the whole holy week lol.

yep. there's an agreement that coincides with it, so historically, it's quite an important day.

It's a public holiday and majority of places are closed except some 24 hour places (and my work cause they can't bear to miss out on one day of money making).

And for some reason restaurants and bars that do open can't serve alcohol unless they have a special license

I don't even know what it is so... I guess we don't have that holiday.

Good Friday is a holiday in my town because I live in a historically Catholic area. In fact, the whole city got the day off.

If restaurants with stuff that they sell no meat/fish or even cheese pizza, then I can consider it as a Holiday. And my state did this too.

For all intensive purposes, it?s

The day Jesus Christ was crucified and the beginning of three days until his resurrection, with Easter Sunday being the third day. It?s usually celebrated by religious people who fast and do penance during this day.

Hopefully I didn?t overstep any boundaries or rules on this site by explaining the meaning of the holiday. Just thought some people who don?t know would like to know why it?s a holiday. :)

Oh well it might be celebrated at my school then heh... but where I live it’s not very popular I guess. Or maybe I just don’t go out enough so I don’t know.
