Midterms

i can't vote but i've been watching and im just watching the person i dont want to win, win

I don’t know if it makes me feel better or worse that who I planned to vote for lost overwhelmingly...

Nice to see that many people in Ohio were smart and voted No on issue 1. They need to make some serious revisions if they want that issue to pass.

Also good to see that Richard Cordray isn't gonna be the next Ohio governor. I had a bad feeling about him, although I guess anyone is better than Kasich.

Though I gotta say, the race for governor was seriously close. Whew!

I didn't get to vote because my absentee ballot didn't arrive, but I couldn't be happier that the Democrats are retaking the House.

I’m glad that the Republicans retained control of Texas’s governship and legislature. They may have lost 11 seats in the Texas House and 2 seats in the Texas Senate, but they still have control of both chambers, as well as the statewide offices (governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general etc).

Not gonna talk about my opinions on the US House and US Senate or other states.

congrats to white people that voted for a literal scrap of paper with the words "love and obey trump" scrawled on it over a functional human being

this happened to an alarming number of people, if you look at twitter. many people were still able to vote with provisional ballots tho. next time go to the polls anyway (if that ever happens again, hope not) and explain the situation etc and call the voter protection hotline just in case, there's been a lot of rampant voter suppression going on.
maybe google, if it's possible to make a complaint that your absentee ballot never arrived and do that.

and yay for the house.. there's been many small wins and firsts this election. it's a good start for progress, even if it's not all that was hoped for.

I'm not. My guy lost thank you very much.

So Florida’s senate is heading into a recount while we won’t hear about Arizona’s or Montana’s senate results until later.

I did mention that I wouldn’t share my opinions on how the rest of the election went, but I can say this much. I’m also glad Ted Cruz won. I would never vote for a socialist, a supporter of sanctuary cities, or someone who supports gun control. And (this may not be related to O’Rourke) I wouldn’t vote for an abolitionist of the death penalty, a supporter of the plastic straw ban, or someone who wants to regulate the foodservice industry.

And I wonder why voter turnout is unusually high this year.

.... yikes. Gun control is one of your countries biggest issues I can't quite grasp why you wouldn't support it. (It's ignorant, at best)

I am well-informed on this issue. Let’s forget about the 2nd amendment for now since using the constitution as an argument only makes a weak argument.

While shootings always hit the news first, there is a correlation between gun control laws and homicide rates. If you had a gun, you can protect yourself from a criminal. While gun laws may stop public shootings, it’s not going to stop criminals from owning one. But I’m okay if my opponents support gun control, and both sides have very strong arguments.

ah yes, regulations. that diabolical leftist plot that's... wait, hold the phone

....

apparently I'm getting word that regulations are specifically coded in the second amendment?

to say nothing of how the second amendment was clearly never meant to account for the types of firearms we have today, and any interpretation as if it was is just plain asinine

i'm pretty happy to see prop 2 approved, honestly
i feel like a lot of people can benefit from medical marijuana

voted for the very first time yesterday c: my vote probably didn't really matter much because I'm in California, but glad I got to do my part!

I’m glad you can do it too. This one was my fourth one, third one if you count early voting only.

I'm 3/3 voting losses

though on the plus side, one of the people I voted against before got voted out this time, so hey!

also, the vote matters. regardless of if you're in a minority or majority party state or anything else

I sadly wasn't able to vote this time around :( , but I guess the beauty of it is that I don't have the right to complain for the next 2 years (doesn't mean I won't be staying informed though)! xD It will be interesting to see what happens now that Congress is divided up between the parties in terms of majorities.

As Lambda said, your vote always matters. It doesn't matter if you're voting for support or voting in protest; your vote is your voice.

I get you, but lets be frank. MY country has gun control, as well as many other countries, and we don't have school shootings as well as the fact most people who illegally get guns are punished here.
Unlike my American friends, I've never seen a gun outside of the army building my mum used to work at. There was a school shooting here 20 years ago so the lawas got changed and it never happened again, and yes criminals do still get guns, but thousands of people dont die each year here because Americans don't act on their problems.

In a series of tweets on my account jewishfeminism I actually went over how Britain is better, even with our knife crime rates, and I worked it out with my good friend maths. (I'm sorry this gonna be a long one, this is an important topic to me for certain reasons)

330 million people in America, 4000 gun deaths in the first part of the year. England had thirty-something stabbing deaths in this time.
However Britains population is way smaller than USA? Okay so, working it out, statistically, if we had the population of you guys (or you followed our rules) only 300-something people would've died this year from knife crime, and thats not a pretty number, but I'd pick that over your gun rates.

We only have these knife murders rise because rowdy and dangerous teenagers and creepy old guys and ya' general suspects have real difficulty getting a gun in this country. if they had guns, and if you guys were any example, we'd all be afraid like your students are. But we're not. Yes, officials should look for more ways to prevent knife crime (if there was law enforced around them people would probably be more afraid, goes the same for yalls white terrorists) but, looking at the statistics children are dying in cold blood, as well as adults too, and it's entirely preventable with simple measures that (most) Americans refuse to take.

tl;dr - your gun laws are lazy, ours are not and only one of us is letting kids die without any preventative measures
