Capcom: Hey, let's make a brand new Monster Hunter game and put it on the Nintendo Switch. It'll sell like hotcakes!!!!

Miyamoto: Whoops, hold up. You know the rules. In order to develop a game for the Nintendo Switch you MUST make a pot of an existing game. No exceptions until I say so.

Whatever, I've never played a MH game but I did play Final Fantasy Explorers which is basically a rip off, I enjoyed it a lot and I can't wait to get my hands on a game like that for Switch!

Hey I thought it was funny. To be honest, I feel like Nintendo is overdoing the ports. There great games that have been ported and there are worthwhile ports coming out in the future, however, I have somewhere between fifteen to twenty Switch games (that's combining physical and digital games) and I only have three system exclusive titles.

I have more system exclusive titles on my 3DS. I feel like Nintendo has no interest in giving us games that can be played exclusively on the Switch, with the once in a blue moon exception of titles like Odyssey, Prime 4 and the new Pokemon.

I like Explorers and MH equally, but as some who plays games more for fun rather then for competition, I'm worried that MHGU will hardly get any playtime in. I only know like one person I could play online with and wouldn't care if I was in it to have fun hunting with others.

I'd LIKE to upgrade from the 3DS version to the Switch version, but I feel that, despite being single player inclusive, MH is a series best enjoyed with other people. Also I learned last night that Generations is called Cross in Japan and that Double Cross IS Generations Ultimate. That's some pretty interesting trivia right there.

Yeah, I’ll be skipping this one. Really don’t like the arts mechanics in Gen and I hope they mix it in the next MH for Switch.
I wouldn’t mind if they release a new one in Japan only and send over an Ultimate version so it’s not like Worlds where you’re constantly waiting for something to do, and there’s only a handful of monsters.

It looks interesting. How accessible is it for someone who has never played Monster Hunter before though?

It's a really good series but it's not for everyone - there's a lot of grind to it and the gameplay can get repetitive after a while. As for accessibility, it's pretty user friendly with tutorials at the start, not as good as the tutorials in MH4U, but it's still pretty good with introducing you to the series and getting you with the know. They also made a lot of QOL changes, which cut down on the grind a fair chunk, so it's definitely a good game to get started with. Since this title includes G rank, it also makes Low and High rank a little easier as armor sets have more skills, which is great for new players.

Alright, thank you for explaining this. I’ll probably pick up a copy once I have a Switch. :D

Let's go!

Bought the game today, started a new profile instead of transferring my data over from the 3DS. If anyone wants to play online together, shoot me a message!

I've been playing this non stop since I got it at launch. I'd be very keen to play with everyone and will post my switch ID thingy when I get home.

Question to the people that have the game, what do you use to communicate? The in game chat is semi clunky and it's difficult to schedule times to play.

Way back in the days of 3U I used Skype a lot to talk to people. Now I user either Facebook or Discord depending on who the person it. I don't really bother with chat unless I'm playing with friends, tho

How is this game for newcomers to the series? I've never played a MH game before but I definitely want to give one a shot and I figured now would be the perfect time since it's on the Switch. I'm just worried that it'll be wayyy too over my head since I know absolutely nothing.

I won't lie and say its it's a very easy game but it really isn't hard till end game (100 plus hours in if you only do key progression quests). If you play with others it's really fun and in single player you can take two Palicos with you into battle (Palicos are cute 'cats' that do battle with you) that can heal you and trap the monster etc.

The only thing you need is to get used to a weapon or two and master them, then get to know the monster you're fighting inside out. Weapon mastery is easy and theres numerous guides online that teach you how to get the most use out of your weapon.

Learning monsters is initially trial and error, and even I screw up reading them from time to time. Each monster has a distinct move set which they can use and each move starts with a small hint telling you the monster will attack (well except a few annoying moves) this will allow you to dodge or reposition appropriately before you get hit.

It might seem rather confusing at first as theres hundreds of items and things going on but if you take a bit of time this game becomes one of the best games you'll have ever played. I've had every game since it went on the psp and have spend multiple thousands of hours playing. I implore you or anyone to get into this game as it's worth it 100%

The game is pretty much about positioning and reading the situation. I was playing with Jake and my younger brother yesterday and we had heaps of fun doing some of the higher level monsters. The quests we did weren't flawless though as we were on low hp multiple times and I even failed to capture two of the three monsters... (my tranquilizer shots glitched...)

But yeah this game is too good and you won't regret it in the end ^-^

Plus if you really struggle I can help you online to get you super powerful weapons to make your quests easier!

Also, for people worried about grinding and stuff like that it's not that bad and it allows you to master hunting a particular monster. Worst case scenario you'll have to hunt a monster around 15 times to get a rare drop, but if you know what you're doing you can make the hunt last only ten minutes.

I use the light bow gun so I find a monsters elemental weakness and use ammo of that element, then I use sleep rounds to make the monster fall asleep so I can bomb its face (sleeping monsters take critical damage on the hit that wakes them up and bombs do a huge amount of damage on their first hit) then to cut the fight short, when a monster is showing signs of weakness I capture it in a trap so I don't have to fight till it dies.

But yeah theres loads of depth to the game if you chose to explore it, but grinding is so worth it in the end ^-^

Hellfish pretty much said it all. If you can get into the game, you can literally spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours into it. Most of it comes from practice, I remember when I first started I was so bad and would fail the easiest monster quests after the 50 minute time limit was up because I couldn't kill it in time, now I can do them in under 5 minutes. It's not the most tutorial and user-friendly to begin with (that goes to 4 Ultimate), but it really does hold your hand and help you out when you're just starting out. There's also a tonne of resources online such as weapon and monster tutorials so if you're ever stuck you can look at those to help you out. The Hunter Arts also make things a little easier, and Prowler mode is fundamentally seen as an "easy" more for players.

That reminds me, when my brother started playing he died by a small monster (I.e. the little ones that roam around and do pretty much no damage to you), he's now probably better at blade master weapons then I am now (since I mainly play gunner)
