I completely forgot there's a demo on the eshop that you can try. It has an easy medium and hard monster to try, plus you can try all of the weapons and different hunting styles out!

I'm progressing through G rank with my brother but will play with anyone who's lower ranked too
GenU is so fun. I've been playing through it with Lance and Prowler (taking a break from Hunting Horn kinda, used it for 4U, Gen and World). Started a new save file so I'm still right now very early Low Rank (only just unlocked the fight with best bird Malfestio, to put how far I am into perspective)

Anyone fought Valstrax yet? My first fight was with a G rank one yesterday and it was so exhilarating. The music combined with its jet engine noises it makes, make the fight so enjoyable.
I will say it has some questionable hit boxes with some of its moves though... like beyond plesioths hip checking and that is saying something.
My favorite part of the fight is when it does it's around the world move, similar to the rathalos, where it breaks the sound barrier and goes into the atmosphere, encircling you before coming down for an almost guaranteed kart.

The amount of times my Palico has used a cheer or sonic horn when I'm almost dead is starting to increase. He used to be such a good companion with me...

I fought Valstrax from the high rank village quest. Really good fight - but it lacks the epic was of fighting Ceadeus/Jhen/Shagaru/Rusted Kushala in the fort area.
As for the Palicoes, just select a healing one and customise their skills so they only have ones that benefit you.

Yeah, though you can reroll those skills out (or not select them in the first place) when using them as Palicos, and then just re-add them whenever you want to switch to Prowler. You don't need to use all your available move slots! (iirc, using less move slots makes them more likely to use the skills they have equipped - but unfortunately you can't unequip cheer horn. I normally just reroll that into the slightly-more-useful armour horn instead.)
If not one thing, it's another. My Healer cats now have Health Horn, but now my Gather cat refuses to learn Boomerang Pro (which, unfortunately, is like a 1-in-13 chance instead of the 1-in-6 chance of Health Horn ;-
I know I can just use another cat to teach the skill, but if I can use a reroll slot to get it, I *will.* I'll leave the tought skills for rarer stuff like Triforce or Ranged Attack Up or Artful Dodger or something.
I would do that, but the cheer horn is useful for me to get fully loaded up faster rather then needing to use ammo I don't want or manually reloading to finish building the gauge up. I'm also training a protection palico to try and take some damage from monsters since my beast and fighting ones die super fast. My healer (named lil' fish) is a really amazing palico most of the time. He's almost level 80 and he's been healing me more often now.
I also got wide range 2 for multiplayer but it helps keep my palicos alive ^-^

I'm in love with the Lao-Shan Lung hunt! I've wanted to hunt him ever since I got 3U back in the day but never got up to him in Freedom Unite and have been waiting for him to return. Such a great fight!
I really liked the way they used the train cart from the gogmazios fight (bless that quest and its gloriousness), it made it so much more interesting. I personally would like them to bring back shen gaoren. It seemed more threatening in terms of attacks, nothing beats gogmazios though, the fact it has a dragonator stuck in its gut says that. Although the raviente subspecies could topple even a dalamadur so I dunno...

Hit the 50 hour mark tonight. 6* village and HR6 online. Got myself a full set of Dreadqueen Rathian armor, but lack the will to farm for mats to level it up.

I've got G rank valstrax armor which allows me to have 490 damage with my light bow gun when I'm on 2/3's of my health. Sadly its caused by giving myself dragon ailment so I cant use my elemental ammo types on anything since dragon ailment makes you do zero elemental damage.
I'm using a mix between my maxed Absolution Bowgun (white fatalis) and maxed Blast of the North Star (Nakarkos). The white fatty lbg is super op because it has a ridiculously high damage coupled by the fact it can rapid pierce lvl 1 and every element, so it's the valstrax's worst nightmare since he's weak to every element. My Blast of the North Star is my anti dragon weapon (I.e. I use it for anything weak to dragon elemental damage) because it can rapid dragon s and also has a very decent amount of pierce ammo it can shoot. I like going up to elder dragons head after I've loaded in my dragon s and saying to myself "Omae wa mou shindeiru", because my bowgun is aptly named and using dragon elemental damage on a monsters head is the highest damage you can possibly do in the game. After one good volley of dragon s I can break the white fatalis' horn (with some minor help).
I've transmog'd damascus armor ontop of mine because it looks badass though, so I'm pretty much complete until I get the event quest fatalis armor that isn't out yet.
I'm kinda at the point where I don't need anything, so if anyone needs help let me know and I'll hunt with you, since I've got nothing I want to do ^-^

Has anyone tried playing Prowler yet? I started playing over the weekend and omg is it fun. I was helping some low rank randoms lvl up and they were wondering why the monsters were so easy online ^-^
Mind you I switched to my lbg for one hunt and pretty much annihilated a rathian and rathalos within the first 2 mins.
If people haven't checked it out I'd definitely recommend it, it's not quite viable till u hit lvl 99, but its undoubtedly fun.

I main Prowler.
Currently at about ~Lv10-16 and HR2 (I think my level cap is currently 20, so I'm not too bothered about the level right now...) Currently working on getting ideal skills and support moves on my cats, but for the most part I've got them rerolled good now.
Right now I've mostly been using Beast and Healer cats - my Gather cat is still in skillchange purgatory, though I recently got the right skills on my Bombing and Protection cats so I'm interested to see how they'll play differently outside of the demo. (I have a funny feeling Protection might be my go-to.) I won't worry about getting more than 1-2 cats of each Bias until I can scout Lv60 cats, though. (Other than temporary cats for use in Meownster Hunters or something)
Self-healing was really annoying before I unlocked Health Horn for use, though. ;-; Thankfully acorns exist, but yeesh. Plus I'm still having Support Gauge issues with my Beast cat (split between Unleash the Beast, Rousing Roar and Health Horn ;-; don't even have access to Weapon Upgrade yet), but for the most part I'm doing fine.
Don't let anyone tell you that overall they got nerfed, though - what they lost in basic stats they gained in support gauge generation and the new palico skills, not to mention a higher cap for both.

Prowlers actually got buffed from generations ^-^
I'm using a lvl 60 something bombing prowler (for the adept evades) along with ranged skills like big boomerang and piercing boomerang. I've only got the soothing roll for healing, but it doubles as an invincible evade too.
My Prowler has Fatalis armor with MH fanclub armor transmog ontop and I'm using a G rank Akantor sword so I look super badass ^-^
It was funny because i was playing with two insect glaive users yesterday and i was mounting the monsters more then both of them combined
Oh sweet, transmog works for Prowlers/Palicoes too? I NEED TO GET ME SOME G-RANK, THEN. (In due time, anyway.)
also literally as I typed this I found out that I finally got Boomerang Pro on my primary Gather cat so IT'S BOOMERANG TIME BOYS (even though boomerangs actually did get nerfed a bit, melee got buffed heavily to compensate though)
How do you get so many mounts as a non-Beast Prowler though? I know Beast's finisher move does aerial damage when you have the tier 3 buff, but the only other mounting move I can think of is the after-boomerang lunge. Are there other ones I don't know about? (Though then again, I've been playing Melee-heavy cats lately, so I guess it'd be easier if you're using a Gather or Assist cat)
