With all of the threads discussing the small additions or updates that we want to see with Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch, something that I'm super curious about seeing in the final product will be their online functionality.

With Nintendo Switch Online being something that Nintendo really wants to push sales for, revamping the online features of Animal Crossing is a huge opportunity for them to capitalize on. What are some online features or ideas that you would want for the upcoming title?

Personally, my wishlist is:

Voice Chat
Bringing back voice chat functionality, like we had with City Folk. With the Nintendo Switch App for Smartphones already providing this for Splatoon, it seems like a no-brainer to add back in on the switch title. It's also great because I've moved 3,750 miles away from my partner, and gaming together with voice is something that we already do.

Sharing a town Online
When I had City Folk and New Leaf, my sister and I both used the same game and lived in the same town. Eventually for NL she bought her own game to have her own village, but we missed seeing what changes and updates happened when the other was playing whenever we had our own chance to hop in.

I don't know how it would work, but maybe being able to "move in" to other towns (with a limit) and being able to access them online to work together on the town would be fun. Or even the opportunity to "trade" towns with each other by mayor-swapping.

Keep the selling functionality of Pocket Camp
As you build up your friends list, selling things like you can in your box in Pocket Camp could be cool. I know prior you could visit towns and buy things off of people, but being able to do it without having to visit would be awesome.

Pocket Camp Connection
Heck, even like Pokemon Let's Go, being able to connect to the mobile app would be really awesome.

I hope they add private trading rooms, so that you would not have to invite strangers into your town. Also, perhaps the Auction House could be reintroduced to hold live auctions that would function sort of like Club Tortimer.

Also, speaking of Club Tortimer, can we not have the entire game session crash when one person disconnects, effectively allowing one person to hold an entire island hostage? I would probably go there a lot more if it wasn't for that.

Allowing the player to set laws in the Police Station would make opening your gates a much less tense experience. You could set laws on whether players are allowed to carry an axe, or use a shovel, and other behaviors, such as only being allowed to run on paths. The thing to keep in mind is that all of these are optional. If you do not like someone's town laws, you can simply not visit. Trusted visitors could also be exempted from these laws.

UGH. This sounds incredible and very needed. Things got super stressful always whenever I had to trade or welcomed people into my town for selling Turnips. Being able to set restrictions like this would be a super big win.

My list:
-Co-op cave exploration (fossil hunts, bugs or bat catching)
-Amusement park events
-Visiting friends and help them build a house
-Bike Riding

I'm hoping that if we can't use voice chat, we at least are able to use a keyboard like City Folk.
(I'm not sure if that's still a thing.)

So many great wishlist features here! Such fantastic brainstorming, guys. :) Voice chat and better keyboard/messaging system post-NL would be so useful; agreed. The delay to use the keyboard then send the message and whatnot is so stressful at times.

It's much easier with the intended/original language (JP) to convey certain things in-game but for the rest of us. . .lol thnx 4 tryin

It's already been said but for multiplayer especially I want less of the fixed camera angle. D: It's fine when I'm playing solo but becomes a pain when others are involved. Maybe there could also be an increase in the amount of "best friends" we can have and a more effective means of communicating with them---be able to send a voice message/letter that they receive in their town and can listen to/read once they're online (as if this would happen. . .I can dream though).

I'd like to be able to send letters with presents attached to people who are on my friends list. I don't want stuff from randos (who does?) but I think it'd be nice with friends. You could send 'em something nice for their birthday or holidays or just because, or even just a note to cheer 'em up if they seem to be having a bad day. :)

More games and things for people to do together in town during holidays would be fantastic too.

I have confidence that Nintendo will allow voice chat via the official Nintendo app.

I really hope you'll be able to have more people in a town at a time. Even 5 visitors instead of 3 would be such a dramatic difference.

Another cool thing would be a permissions system. You should be able to set your friends with a specific permission for when you open your gates. Entries such as "Can't see my town online", "Can come to town, but can't manipulate objects", "Full control when at my town" would be such a good way to split people you have on your friends list who you don't really know and your best friends.

I really hope we can have 8 people in town at one time! I know when the game launches lots of my friends will be playing and it will be sad if we can't all play together! :p

I LOVE the "sharing a town online" idea, it's something I always have wished for aswell! I doubt it will happen, but if it did I would get so so happy!

I would like a way to set up rules for multiplayer so people can prevent trampling of flowers or messing up whatever path system they have. That would make things a lot less stressful for a lot of people. I also want a way to send mail to each other. I think that would be fun.

Adding to my wishlist that is kind of a multiplayer feature are more distinct town "types" that different people can have. Even though we already have different layouts and fruits to trade, it would be cool to see towns that only have certain types of trees/flowers, or even terrain types!

:) This system existed on City Folk, I think! Being able to send letters or gifts would be really cool.

Being able to take villagers from people before they're in boxes. I understand that they don't do that in case the person changes their mind about letting villagers go, but I feel as if it would be an easy way for casual players to get villagers out without TTing. It gives the person who wants the villager much more time to pick them up, and it makes much more sense, rather than "Oh, I'm moving out tomorrow, but I still have no idea where I'm going." Instead, upon moving out, the villager could say something like "*your town name* was nice, but I can't wait to see my new home in *other town name*. I just feel as if it would make everything easier.

I also think that a ratings system would be a good idea if you don't set up rules. So, they'd be kinda like the Wi-Fi feedbacks here on TBT. If someone doesn't listen to you, destroys stuff, etc., you could give them a bad rating. Ratings bad enough could even be reported and those people would be banned temporarily or permanently. Also, to stop people from spamming good ratings from alternate accounts, you can only rate the same user every 30 days. You can also see everyone who rated, so you could tell if all of the ratings were from different people or all from one account.

I definitely agree that would be huge if they made it happen. It would make players more confident of bringing complete strangers in town. :) With this feature, they could also make it possible for the mayor to allow players access to certain functions that would otherwise be impossible like placing patterns on the ground (like designing a path system) or moving/placing furniture in a player's house (would be useful if someone is trying to help someone with designing their house).

I don't have any friends, so multiplayer features is something I honestly hope they don't focus too much on over other fearures.

I think it would be great if they added more customization features for furniture! The refurbishing options in New Leaf are nice, but it would be better if there were more options. Something that I liked about The Sims is that you could customize light fixtures to effuse different colors of light. I think that would make a great customizable feature for Animal Crossing light fixtures, too.
