Nintendo Direct 3/27/25

Really surprised about a Patapon 1+2 remaster. Especially considering we are already getting Ratatan. I have good memories of playing the games on PSP, and I highly recommend the series if you're into rhythm games.
That was the main thing that stood out to me as far as new games. I already plan to play Fantasy Life i and Pokemon ZA. Nice seeing a bit more info though. The nighttime setting in ZA is interesting and the game title makes some more sense now. Kind of surprised they haven't revealed any new megas or other pokemon yet.

Was definitely exciting that the direct started off with Dragon Quest I and II. However we already knew it was coming out in 2025, so no official release date was a little disappointing.

My wife was thrilled about Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar being remade, her favorite in the series. As well as some other smaller ones.

Can't wait for next Wednesday though, should be a great time! :D

What stood out to me the most was the virtual game cards. (Do we know for sure yet if the switch 2 has physical game slots?)

It does seem pretty handy, but I don't like how it is just another step to physical games being done away with. Maybe it doesn't matter since many times physical games don't have the whole game on the cartridge anyway, but still. And I am sure this virtual game cartridge thing will help deal with tariff wars and taxation between nations.
At least there is hope of less games being locked in old Nintendo consoles for eternity with the virtual game cards being a thing now!

Games that peaked my interest were: Shadow Labyrinth, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Metroid Prime 4, and even Pokemon Legends Z-A, some.

I am not familiar with Tomodachi but it looks weird and interesting. Pokemon Z-A looks like it may be more battle focused vs exploration which I *think?* I would prefer? Idk I just have this weird fear with Nintendo making an empty game and slapping exploration to it in marketing after seeing what they did with Pokemon and Zelda games in the switch's lifespan. I like the details they shared about the city and I think the contrast will feel refreshing since they changed how battling is done. Shadow Labyrinth looks like it would be fun to me. And Metroid 4 looks like it would be cool just to experience playing through.
I am also happy to see that some of the dates on some games are a little ways out.. making them more as a switch 2 thing (in my mind anyway).
I look forward to hearing about the next console soon. Though I still don't have plans on picking up their console just because I have been so annoyed and disappointed with things Nintendo has been doing, I still have interest in seeing where they are going. Maybe my mind will change in the future about them. Also, price tags are a thing to consider.

Okay, I ate my words. There were a few things that caught my attention.
  • The new Tomodachi Life game looks like something I'd play. Even though I haven't played the 3DS game at all, I know about the hilarious antics it offers via watching streams of the game on Twitch and YouTube. Also, the island town concept pretty much looks like something I'd like in the next Animal Crossing game, so bonus points for that. I'm happy for those who've been wanting a new entry, and maybe I'll give it a try myself next year.
  • The Virtual Game Card feature appears to be a good concept and expands the functionality of digital games, letting you lend them to others. New Horizons clearly supports this, so I'm thinking that this could be a way to have more than one island on multiple systems similar to sharing the physical game card like I currently do. However, I do wonder why Nintendo decided to introduce this feature so late into the Switch's mainstream life instead of reserving it for the Switch 2, but I'm not going to complain about it either.
  • Metroid Prime 4 gameplay footage. I'm not a big fan of the games, but I realize that this is something many have looked forward to, so it's nice to see what it's all about.
It's crazy to think that the big direct is only a week away. The big guns will get pulled out then, so hopefully it won't disappoint.

Do we know for sure yet if the switch 2 has physical game slots?
Yes it does.

I quite like the direct, the new pokemon seems like a lot of fun and I'm personally very excited for the 'Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army'!!
The ps2 version is beyond expensive these days so I'm glad it will be more attainable now ^^-
(now I hope for the second game remaster 🤞)

this direct has soooo much for me i'm so hyped!!!
it was regrettably was one of the only directs i couldn't watch live because i was in meetings 😂 coming back and seeing the news was wild. i think i may have cried in my meeting if i actually brought my laptop with me to it, so. good thing i didnt.
  • Patapon 1 + 2 was such a welcome surprise! I wasn't anticipating anything on that front because of Ratatan, but I loved these games and will definitely be getting them again! also ratatan. ratatan!!!!!!!!
  • Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar was completely unexpected too - but I have very very fond memories of playing this game, and the remake looks really good! ivan thank you for appearing for like 2 seconds ilu
  • the tamagotchi game!! looks so cute! i want it. im a sucker for tamagotchis and cute things.
  • RHYTHM HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive been waiting every direct for a new rhythm heaven game, especially if there's no warioware news. it's about time!!! i am so so so so excited!! my beloved!!!
  • Tomodachi Life was such a surprise and I'm so happy! A lot of my friends were hoping for it, so they're all going wild rn. I never got to play the original but... I love miis a lot, so I'm super excited too!!
what a good direct 😭 i dont know what to ask for now that rhythm heaven is finally here

I know I probably sound old school / boomer-ish saying this, but I see less and less reason to go with an all digital library compared to owning physical games. I guess it's nice that they're trying to close the gap by improving some of the inconveniences, but it seems way more complicated than it needs to be.

Physical games:
  • play any time I want, on any Switch
  • I can lend games to my friends, any time, any where, no complex rules or process to follow
  • I can trade games with friends, I can sell games to buy a new game if I want
  • I can play games 10 or 20 years from now, doesn't matter if the Switch online store shuts down or my Switch can't connect to the "wifi of the future" or I lose my current switch console or the console breaks or I can't log into my Switch account. I can still play the physical games I own
Downsides? I need to go to the store or wait a couple days if I order a game online. Which doesn't bother me at all.

First of all, I'm super excited for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream! I had so much fun playing the 3DS game, so it's nice to see that there will finally be a new game in the series. I'll definitely be getting it when it's released~

Aside from that, I'm also interested in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar and Witchbrook. I never played Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar, but I've always liked the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series. I've seen a bit of Witchbrook before, and it looks like a cute game. I love things that are witch and magic-themed. It was nice to get some more info about Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The nighttime battle royale seems interesting.

Out of the games showcased Witchbrook looks right up my alley! It was my first time seeing/hearing anything about it and I'm definitely interested. I might prefer to play it on PC though so I've added it to my Steam wishlist.

So excited for everyone about Tomodachi Life! I don't know a single thing about it other than seeing members here constantly wish for it so maybe I'll have to check it out.

The digital game card stuff is interesting to me for one reason only and that's Animal Crossing. I vastly prefer to go physical when it comes to my Nintendo games but ACNH I bought digitally due to a few circumstances (stores closed and/or sold out, and I won a gift card for the e-shop). I don't really know anything about the current state of how digital games across multiple Switches works because it's not something I've had to encounter yet. But now with Switch 2 on the horizon obviously getting a second island on there will be of mega importance... if this can spare me having to buy another copy of ACNH then that's something I'll be happy about.

i’d love a tomodachi life sequel announcement!
i was mainly just hoping for news on tomodachi life but oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️.
just like with the last direct, i’m really hoping for some tomodachi life news lol. i’m doubtful that we’ll get it, but a girl can dream. 😅
one day, we’ll get tomodachi life news, right?
...right?
it may never happen, but i’m really hoping for a tomodachi life sequel (or even a reboot for the switch). tomodachi life was one of my favourite games when i was younger, and i’d love to see the series continue. :’)
i of course was also hoping for a tomodachi life announcement as always
it’s copium at this point lol, but as always i’m hoping a new tomodachi life game will be announced.
but another direct without any tomodachi life news... pain.
another direct has come and gone without a tomodachi life announcement View attachment 513504 we will get one one day my fellow tomodachi life homies, i swear!! /copium
I'm in the same boat of not knowing what to expect with a new console announcement coming next year, but I'll never stop asking and hoping for a new Tomodachi Life game.
I'm genuinely in tears. NEW TOMODACHI LIFE GAME REAL!!!!!!!!!!
