I’ve seen a lot of people discuss Nookazon on this site, and many are pretty skeptical about using it. I decided to give it a try, and here’s my experience for anyone who might be curious!

I’ve been using the site for about a week or so, with probably about 30 trades completed. Most I’ve been the seller for, and most involving villagers. Overall I’ve had a pretty positive experience with selling, while I’ve come across some rude people, I’ve never had anyone try to scam me. Most people are quick to arrive as well, or contact you in discord if there’s a problem. I did have someone offer to buy a villager from me though, and something came up so I asked if they could wait a bit. They seemed fine with it, so when I was ready I tried to contact them to see... that they blocked me? It was strange, but thankfully someone else grabbed the villager so it wasn’t horrible. If I didn’t have the time to find another buyer though, it could have been much worse.

When it comes to buying, however, I have had a few more negative experiences. While of course some people have been very sweet, others are rude and don’t seem to value your time. I’ve arrived to islands where I’ve had to wait a substantial amount of time for the trader to show up or communicate with me. This isn’t really that bad, I understand that mix ups can happen and multiple traders can show up at once on accident (I’ve been guilty of this as well). One particular person really makes me never want to buy on this site again, though. When I got to her island it was full of people, I think friends, and the trader was nowhere in sight. I said hello and who I was, no response. They were all just chatting amongst themselves. Tried again, and the trader finally made their way over and we completed the trade. The whole experience wasn’t great, and because of the time it took I had another trade that was lined up cancelled because the buyer was sick of waiting for me. I rated the user a 3/5 and explained my grievances, but still recommended them and thanked them for the trade. I had been giving people nothing but 5 stars, but how this person behaved really rubbed me the wrong way. She left me a 5 star review, thanking me for my patience. All said and done, right? Well, I guess she hadn’t seen my review yet, because I log in later to see she has lowered her score (3/5) and said I was impatient, and criticized my review! What? She literally lied just to get back at me for leaving her a positive, but not perfect review for a very legitimate reason. So I changed my review for her to one star and explained her terrible behavior. As someone who sells a lot, I’d never imagine doing what she did, if someone has a legit complaint and my score suffers, I keep it in mind and try to improve. If they outright lied (like she did) then I might take action.

Anyway, would I recommend Nookazon as a buyer and seller? Not really, if you can get something here, get it here. I’d only recommend Nookazon if you need to sell or buy something fast. While that one experience was my only bad one, the community on Nookazon is just a lot more hostile and rude in general. People on TBT are much nicer and understanding, and I feel there’s a lower tolerance for the type of behavior I experienced.
Nookazon is nothing to be scared of, but it’s not exactly something great, either.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings! I hope some of you might find this helpful, or at least entertaining. I don’t think I’ll use Nookazon again, the whole site sort of feels like the Wild West haha.

Edit: I just noticed that user that gave me a lower score did it to another person for the same reason! When I went to leave a review, I saw they had a 4/5 from someone that was there with me on the island at the same time trying to trade as well. They pretty much just echoed my thoughts. The seller left them a 5/5 thanking them for their patience like they had done for me, at least that’s what I saw when I checked earlier. I just got curious and checked again, and the seller changed that buyer’s review to a lower score and said they were impatient suddenly as well! How petty!

I haven't used Nookazon myself, but hearing mixed reviews like this makes me mostly stay on this site. The seller who not only made you wait but also gave you some retaliatory feedback sounds so frustrating tbh. This person clearly doesn't know how to value others or their time and it's a shame that some people are like this. Like why trade with someone if you're gonna ignore them? And then getting angry you got a bad review? That's plain dumb.

I've looked at Nookazon but I haven't used it yet. I hear mostly good things about it but it also seems so chaotic. I honestly prefer here anyways but it really sucks when there are immature sellers (or buyers). These types are on all platforms, even here but at least here you can be sure that retaliatory feedback is not allowed unless justified

Thank you for the advice, Franny, I just reported them. I didn’t know you could report a user if they didn’t outright scam you, but it turns out review abuse is a valid reason to report!

I agree, kojurro. I wouldn’t be surprised if they see my updated review and change theirs again lol.

I have a Nookazon but I don't trade on there. I used it to make a list and make a wishlist thread on here which links my Nookazon wishlist.

I used Nookazon a lot recently too. I was pleased to find that you give offers and if the order is accepted, you just send or receive a dodo code. Everything went very smoothly like this for some trades until I started selling. My complain it's more about the UX. I asked for the buyer to send me a code, but then I had another trade and I wanted to tell the other buyer to come instead, so I could kill two birds in one stone. Problem is that the buyer didn't have a contact and we were chatting sending reviews to each other.
I also wished I could be online only when I am actually on the website. I know I am the responsible, but I am very forgetful and I got a lot of offers when I was offline.

I decided to make an experiment, since I realized the rating doesn't matter. On that note, I saw people with a terrible reviews still recieving offers. Back to my experiments, I tried to charge a lot for some rare items, and made an auction. The truth is that most didn't get offers and the auction didn't go very far. My point is that people are boicoting unreasonable prices and I hope the tendency is for prices to go down.
Also people make a lot of mistakes all the time and don't pay attention. I put a listing for crafting services and said I needed the materials. I got two people coming and realizing I wasn't selling the item. One even went like "well try putting on offer you need mats next time :)", so I checked my listing and there it was: needed materials. I ended up taking off all my crafting listings.
I never got scammed, not even a try. It's just a mess and it will take a while to be solid and trustable.

that last person really rubs me the wrong way - don’t organize a trade with someone if you’re busy hanging out with friends. it’s rude and then to ignore the trader once they arrive and then get upset when the trader doesn’t appreciate your behaviour? ridiculous. i’m sorry you experienced that ;;

Rude... I have only done one trade on nookazon and it went well, buyer had paid and everything

I tried using Nookazon once when I had an empty slot in my town, and I was trying to get Audie. I had put offers in two different bids for her, one of which just wanted Diana, so I offered just Diana, and in both I waited hours and hours and never heard anything back from either of the people I bid from. I ended up canceling both of my bids and getting Marshal from someone here because I waited 6 hours and never heard anything. I'm not really a fan of how Nookazon doesn't have a built-in messaging system like TBT does and that everything runs through outside methods of communication. I haven't tried doing item trades or anything though.

I honestly feel like this is the nicest community for animal crossing trading. I couldn't imagine going through something like that! I've only met one "rude" person on this site after being here for almost a year, and even they were able to trade quickly. I'm so grateful for this community and all the help we give each other <3

oh my God thank you as someone who doesn't have discord and used g mail I thank you for saying that

Sorry that you've felt let down by sellers on the site.

Throwing my hat in the ring, I've only ever had good experiences.

Yeah, tbh from my NL days, I vastly prefer trading here. In general I find that the community here is nicer and more generous. I traded a lot of villagers back in my NL days, and it's more common here for people to cycle villagers to help people get dreamies or to just giveaway popular villagers for free. Nookazon from what I saw was all people asking for extreme amounts of bells or NMT or other popular villagers to then turn around and trade. I looked at Sherb while scrolling for someone new just for giggles, and every entry I saw for like 20 entries wanted Raymond in return for Sherb.
Nookazon is all about buying/trading/profiting which is fine, but the concept of 'dream villagers' is kind of lost because Nookazon isn't as personal. You can make a wishlist, sure, but there's really no way to be like 'I really want Diana because she was in my NL town and we became good friends then she moved away without saying and I've wanted her back ever since' or something. It's literally just, I have this, give me this in return. And I'm not really a fan of messaging people when I don't hear back on my bid (even if I bid exactly what they asked for) because I feel like if they wanted to accept my bid they'd contact me? I dunno. I'm not a huge fan of how the site is set up, and from what I've seen that community is just more interested in making money/getting nmt than helping people. It's not necessarily "rude" but TBT is much homier.

I just sold my very first item (villager) on Nookazon. I hate how there's no communication between buyer and seller if they don't have discord. I thought I was just scammed when a seller only gave me 200/500 tickets but they came back like 15 minutes later lol.

i really hope it gets resolved! i really like bell tree's setup on how you can't give "revenge reviews" (like someone said above.) but nookazon is also great for getting immediate response, so i hop between both.

i think because nookazon is so new, a lot of hitches like this will come up. i'm really sorry you were on the end of it though :(

Wow, I haven't seen revenge rating in a while. Reminds me of eBay.

I don't have personal experience with Nookazon yet other than looking at others' wishlists that they put there. The site loads so slow. I really hate that. I also have tried looking around at what sellers have to offer and, in general, the prices seem high.

Between my dislike for the slow loading and the high prices, plus hearing others' bad experiences, that's why I haven't bothered. I think the main benefit of using it is if you really want a particular item in a particular color and you're struggling to find it here. It might be worth the price premium if you'd rather have the item sooner rather than later. It also seems useful if you're into selling villagers, though I personally don't do that. I don't TT, so not worth the hassle of trying to coordinate with my buyer in time.

The ability to update reviews seems like a massive oversight for exactly this reason. I'm glad you weren't scammed, but I'm sorry you had the misfortune of running across a rude and immature person.
