• Guest, you're invited to help build our new TBT time capsule! It contains three parts, with some of its elements planned to open in 2029 and others not until the distant future of 2034. Get started in 2024 Community Time Capsule: Blueprints.

My overall thoughts on the forum as a seller.

Is your character male or female. Or Neither

First of all, I agree with your sentiments! I've always felt very safe trading here, and I love the level of communication, rating systems and all that here. Trading on Discord or other sites can be nerve wracking because you really don't know what you're getting yourself into. I thought Nookazon was really cool and shiny and new compared to our old, old TBT forum (such an old format!) but it really is more comforting trading here and I rarely have to worry about getting ripped off or scammed here.

Anyway, I'm a girl and I play a girl - I think it's not uncommon to encounter more girls. Hate to be stereotypical, but while a lot of males do enjoy Animal Crossing, I do see it appealing to a female audience more.

It's interesting, though, although I encounter more females when I play online, I've also noticed that in a lot of the Youtube video tours of incredible 5-star islands feature a lot of male creators, and all the tour hosts are usually male as well.

is there any actual physical difference between male/female characters? i picked the guy as my style but i use eyelash eyes and generally wear more "feminine" outfits so do we actually know if we're encountering more of either one or not 🤔
The main difference is outfits and clothes

i set up my character to look like me at the beginning of the game, but that was mostly because i didn't love the beginning hair options lol. i tend to make my character look like how i wish i looked like / what i'm "attracted" to i guess in terms of the style. it's like i care more about my appearance in ac than i do irl lol

also my character looks a bit like a tiktok lesbian which says a lot about me lol
Hey there's no problem being 'tiktok lesbian' show your style

im a transguy and my character is intended to be as well!! he doesnt look exactly like me (living vicariously through him atm - the hair options i can do on nh wouldnt work for me irl) but he looks like me facially and is intended to be me exactly

Your right never noticed that, I guess designers (such as myself) are more in touch with there remain side

I'm female and so is my character. Like a few others have mentioned doing, I often like to dress my avvie in stuff I wouldn't wear or couldn't afford in real life. Though I must mention that I was pleasantly surprised at just how many clothing options appealed to my own sense of style. Like, I don't like wearing dresses or frilly stuff at all in the real world but videogame fashions tend to shoehorn female identifying characters into that style. Not ACNH! I could dress as I do IRL if I wanted to: like a boring teacher on a budget: ugly walking shoes, cardigans, earth tones, etc. Kinda neat.

Anyway, I do love this forum even though I took an extended break from it while I was finishing school. When I came back, I saw many of the same friendly faces and instantly felt at home again. Also, this is the only place where I feel comfortable trading. The rating system really helps to keep this community safer (though of course nothing can keep a community completely safe).

I'm female and play as female on both of my islands.
I honestly prefer trading on the forums here, it's easy to use and everyone I've encountered has been really friendly!

My player in NH is a female (cause she's based on me) but my player in New Leaf was a male, one of the characters I created years and years ago in a fanfic I made.

I mainly made my player in NH a girl so that I could properly dress her in cute and fancy dresses and such. I wouldn't really have a problem with it if my player were a boy (my player in Pocket Camp, the same as in NL, is wearing a girly kimono dress with a flower/butterfly hairpin lol) but sometimes I like to just imagine that I'm actually the one wearing it. It's nice to play dress-up sometimes :)

I agree completely I sometimes feel I am wearing my outfit

I'm NB, and I used to switch between male and female, but it doesn't make much of a difference, so I mostly just change between the same eyes with or without eyelashes.
I never had bad experiences in any website, but people here are much more kind and nice so it's way more pleasant to trade!

it’s kinda weird to me that guys seem to be in the minority here because literally *all* of the people i play AC with except for my sisters are guys. and i play with 7 different people.

maybe it’s actually more even across the board, and this is a bell tree thing? or maybe i’m an outlier. idk.

(edit: i just realised that all but two of those guys are either bi or gay. i am bi myself. maybe i just have a ton of friends who are like me, then. lol)

Hum interesting

I'm female but my avatar flucuates from day to day. I definitely get more female players here whenver I do trades but I see more male players on other sites like reddit. Discord seems to have a pretty even spread.

I'm a pretty androgynous/borderline-NB guy and have been male-coding my character in this game for the most part, though I don't consider them having a gender. Even if they share my name and I can occasionally treat them as an extension of self. (which is what I'm feel that I'm doing at the moment)

In previous games, when I was younger, I would name my character Damon and would freely cross-dress in feminine clothing just because I liked the idea of a guy wearing feminine clothing (hmmm.. wonder why? lmao)

So I think I've been dressing in more masculine clothing in this game for 2 reasons:
1. I think the masculine clothing in this game are sooo much better than in previous games, they're way more modern. And I've been less and less into dresses as I was when I was younger.
2. As I said before I think I'm treating them as more as an extension to myself as of right now, and dressing them more like how I look and dress now.

So, yeah basically, I'd consider them non-binary so they can match my flip-floppy moods freely lol

Bump

Maybe strate people have the impression that animal crossing isn't 'manly enough' I mean I'm strate Andy odd so that's contradicting but idk...

Thank you for the "neither" option! I'm nonbinary, my character is a self-insert and thus nonbinary~
They've got my chosen name also, projecting so :'D
I think it is important that whatever your colour gender or style you should be treated as part of the family!

I've mostly encountered female characters as well.

I'm NB and while I don't actively aim to reflect that in-game I think it still may come across that way.
Since your a mod can you un delete this post please? I bumped it not knowing you couldn't bump discussions. I personally think this is a truely interesting topic and the poll would be Good to know overall m2f ratio

I definitely prefer to trade here too, and have never been scammed by another bell tree forums member. I have hosted a few events (such as celeste on my island) and have always charged an optional entry fee of 1 hybrid flower or 30-50K, yet I've had multiple people come over and give me 100-300K and 5 hybrids. Most people I have meet on here have been as equally kind and generous in other ways when they did not need to be, and in return I like to spread love around the forum by occasionally tipping large amounts too. Its such a nice feeling to see someone excited at your generosity, and its nice to be on the receiving end of someone else's generosity as well!

Ahh, I agree, thanks for saying your thoughts aswell!

this last part is pretty much exactly me, too. “flip-floppy moods” is the PERFECT way to put it lol!
